To think that Charles and Camila are actually an example of genuine love

Yes of course I feel sorry for Diana. Yes I think being a royal has a huge impact. But they let young and are now still together and seemingly happy in their 70’s, despite a lot of shunning, negative press, etc.

God yes, and the walking behind her coffin so publicly...I was working on a hospital ward that day and it was on every bloody TV, made me feel uneasy even then.

Noddyandbiggerears · 25/11/2020 23:18

Oh and I’ve always liked Fergie as well

This is a terrible thing, and I openly admit it's my issue, but I judge people who cheat. I judge people who cheat because there are always alternatives. I judge people who cheat because it's shitting on your other half. I judge people who cheat because I just don't think they value themselves highly enough to treat their partner properly.

So, I judge Charles and I judge Camilla and the whole thing even now seems slightly awful. It's nice enough to find someone to keep you company and all that but it seems very much that the two of them crapped on others simply because they could.

PhoebeSnow · 25/11/2020 23:21

APB was a randy sod who was sleeping with princess Anne and Camilla at the same time. So Charlie’s sister has slept with his now wife’s ex husband! It’s like a Greek tragedy with Diana as the victim

IcedPurple · 25/11/2020 23:24

@UsernameRebooted

I thought they didn't actually live together and lead separate lives but obviously can't divorce?
I think a lot of elderly couples would quite happily spend quite a bit of time apart if they could afford separate luxurious homes. That doesn't mean they don't love each other however.
Noddyandbiggerears · 25/11/2020 23:25

@FudgeBrownie2019 so do you judge Diana for cheating?

@Nomoreboobs

I watching this now on The crown..Charles doesn’t seem that bad? My mum always says he’s a horrible man
It’s not a documentary 🤣
ClaireP20 · 25/11/2020 23:28

Me too!

He was the model for Rupert Campbell Black according to Jilly Cooper.

Yep, absolutely. But since this thread was about Charles and Camilla I thought I'd focus on them. I just don't buy the "genuine love" thing when it comes to folk who cheat.

Cygne · 25/11/2020 23:28

I remember people being interviewed after Diana's death saying they were much sadder about it than they had been about the deaths of their close relatives. I was quite surprised that no-one seemed prepared to tell them that that was just sick and that they needed to get away urgently from all the mass hysteria and competitive grief.

Yes I love Fergie too!
PhoebeSnow · 25/11/2020 23:29

And Diana’s brother Charles is a bloody hypocrite who treated his various wives like dirt, just as his father did with Frances, and Charles Spencer abandoned Diana. All that nonsense at her funeral, he only gives a shit about himself. He has a book out now so he can piggy back that with the BBC case. Diana was a naive , insecure very young woman who had a lot of issues and I felt very sorry about her death. She did a lot of good in the world and would have done so for much longer if she had only been wearing a bloody seat belt that night!

I thought you meant the Nazism for a second!

BlueThistles · 25/11/2020 23:30

@GabsAlot

I'll remember this thread when someone comes on saying my dh has had affair with the love of his lifeHmm
Yes it's enlightening isn't it... to see the support and admiration for the Other Woman/Second Wife club... it's almost a christmas miracle 🤣
Cocomarine · 25/11/2020 23:30

I think people just like a good story, and it being true love is a good story. Good as in entertaining, at least!

What if he had married Camilla in the first place? Who’s to say that would have been a happy marriage? Might it not have been a calm and compromising with quiet affairs? Or even tumultuous and ending in divorce too? I don’t think the fact that they came back together later meant it so ways would have worked out happily. We don’t know if they’re happy now. Certainly a PR issue if they’d got back with the ex and realised it was a mistake a few years later!

But Charles and Diana divorced 30 years ago nearly. How long do we realistically have to be cross at people for?

user1473878824 · 25/11/2020 23:33

@BilboBercow

Most of the Royal family seem like cold, very detached people. I'm not sure their "love" bears much similarity to ours.
Yes, because of course they aren’t just human people having a different experience from you. Do you think they’re hatched? Ffs.

I'm not sure... lets ask the First Wives of unfaithful husbands... DH and I are still on marriage number one Im afraid so can't compare 🤔😂

Noddyandbiggerears · 25/11/2020 23:35

Blimey even I’m surprised by the vote.

I got divorced over 30 years ago, very awkward for years, all forgiven and forgotten some years ago. I suddenly got to the point where he was a virtual stranger and who wants to waste their time being angry with a stranger for more than 5 minutes.

Realised when I passed him in the street and suddenly realised who he was, he was the same and we both turned and acknowledged each other.

Mummyoflittledragon · 26/11/2020 00:01

@campion

True love was Edward and Wallace - he gave up the throne to have his woman

More likely that she was the convenient excuse. He didn't want to be king and she was reported to be horrified that he'd abdicated.

I like Camilla.

Exactly. Simpson hated him for it. She felt tricked into marriage and wrote several times to her ex husband Earnest. In the letters, she made clear how unhappy she was, how much she missed him and hinted at about her desire to make a move on Herman Rogers, whose wife was dying of cancer. Speculation is he is the only man she truly loved. #truelove.

Yes bit at least he did the half decent thing and gave up the throne. He didn't pretend to want it all. Both may have regretted it later but he took the risk.

Charles should have stood up to the Queen and the Queen shouldn't have turned a blind eye. She's showing her own misogyny in this.

And yes, King Andrew the perv would be worse the King Charles the weak willied.

Emmapeeler2 · 26/11/2020 00:19

I like Charles and Camilla though I do feel sorry for Diana, especially now I am older and realise how young she was when she marries him Sad

But Camilla seems very good for Charles. She probably laughs at him (in a good way). They seem very relaxed in each other's company.
