Blown away by some of the negativity on a ‘Health care professionals’ facebook group which seems to be populated by anything BUT HCP’s Confused

Yes absolutely.

No one can do anything without their health.

Pickypolly · 25/11/2020 18:22

I do, definitely.
Why the negativity? Is there a theme on the page?

Namenic · 25/11/2020 18:31

Yes because they do a vital job which has been particularly taxing and we will need them to carry on going to clear the backlogs of treatment due to covid.

ChelseaCat · 25/11/2020 18:34

It should be done in conjunction with a raise for physios, OTs, SALT, dietitians etc. Drs and Nurses aren’t anymore deserving than other HCPs

Dannydevitoiloveyourart · 25/11/2020 18:35

Of course. It’s long overdue but Hunt made sure it didn’t happen 5 years ago.

Genuine question- what’s the intensity of the hours and shift rotas like for the professions you’ve mentioned compared to that of doctors and nurses?
TinkersRucksack · 25/11/2020 18:37

His yes, they deserve more they've been shat on for long enough.

And clapping doesn't pay bills.

Yes, doctors and nurses are, as they aren't able to pop in and out, like the others are, except perhaps physios working in ITU, although I have never met any who have worked 12 hour shifts in one ward, unlike nurses and doctors.

Lucky to have a job/I’m retired and I don’t think it should happen/Shop workers should get it to ( not sure how many shop workers are public servants but that’s definitely a theme) But generally an overwhelmingly negative response. Which makes me wonder how many of those clapping on their doorsteps in March now share the same views.

Lightsabre · 25/11/2020 18:40

Yes I think they should have it but there shouldn't be a pay freeze for teachers and social workers who are under enormous pressure too at the moment.

LemonPeonies · 25/11/2020 18:41

Drs and nurses are the ones who literally save lives so yes, more so than physios etc PP Hmm

Pickypolly · 25/11/2020 18:41

So they don’t deserve a pay rise because they should count themselves lucky to have a job at all, is that the gist of the comments?

SecretSpAD · 25/11/2020 18:42

I imagine it will be for all NHS staff. It's just that people don't tend to think that admin and management staff ever deserve it (they absolutely do) so sounds better political,y to say nurses.

Agree with all of this. Shop workers also deserve a pay rise.
Ffsffsffsffsffs · 25/11/2020 18:42

I thought it was for lower paid staff, average less than £24k salary. Pay rise of £250. Whoopy do, not going to make a big difference but yes I absolutely approve

Kaliorphic · 25/11/2020 18:42

Yes they should get a pay rise. As should the OTs physio, social workers etc as their pay has been frozen for years as well.

Neron · 25/11/2020 18:43

I believe that anyone who provides a care service, should get one. That includes carers, health care assistants and the nursing/care staff at GP surgeries as well.
It is shameful how the emergency service staff are underpaid as well, but that's another thread.

twinkletoesimnot · 25/11/2020 18:43

They definitely should. ALL public service workers should.
Heck all workers should - much handwringing if teachers even hint at closing schools, so I'd say that's an import service.
As are bin men, police men etc etc

Why can't we support each other instead of being divisive?

As a pp said- clapping doesn't pay your bills!

Asdf12345 · 25/11/2020 18:43

@ChelseaCat

Any alteration to the agenda for change payscales will affect them also. Nurses are simply the largest group by far on those payscales.

Doctors depending on the nature of their employment can be on very many other payscales.

Lurkingforawhile · 25/11/2020 18:44

I've not heard any negativity? I'll be getting a pay freeze as in the public sector and think those who have had the toughest time and those paid the least most deserve a pay rise. I wish some of the defence money they announced would go on healthcare instead.

Holothane · 25/11/2020 18:44

Too right I do it should be much higher.

Lurkingforawhile · 25/11/2020 18:44

@twinkletoesimnot - nicely said

dammit88 · 25/11/2020 18:45

Has a pay rise been offered?

Denthelp · 25/11/2020 18:45

I think it should be based on performance not title.
Some medical staff have absolutely earned it (and more). Some have used the pandemic as an excuse for bad service.

Pickypolly · 25/11/2020 18:45

Did I hear that politicians are having a pay rise? £3k each? (Can’t remember where I saw this)
