I can't stop myself - I don't even watch rugby as a rule! I've just seen Johnny Wilkinsons waxwork being lifted onto the spare plinth in Trafalgar Square and blokes singing 'Swing Low' at Waterloo and I'm a wreck!

The whole hype is gonna kill me by tomorrow night!

COME ON ENGLAND

You are winding us up - Wilkinsons statue on a plinth in trafalgar square? Why?

MaureenMLove · 19/10/2007 07:56

Tis true m'dear! Not that you're jealous or anything! They've borrowed his wax work from Tussauds for the weekend! They'll be melting it down by midnight tomorrow! I am under no illusions!

YANBU - and this comes from an Aussie! I am unhappy about the Aus-Eng result both world cups, but Wilkinson has the talent to totally deserve it.
Still, those SA are demons.

saltire · 19/10/2007 08:01

Why though?

harpsichordcarrier · 19/10/2007 08:02

why what saltire?

saltire · 19/10/2007 08:06

Why have they put his statue up on a plinth- why not wait until after the final, nothing like pressuring the poor guy!

harpsichordcarrier · 19/10/2007 08:13

well it's just a show of support isn't it? like a war thing, going into battle.
no idea if it's true btw, I am the only person in the country not to care much. In fact I am going to the theatre tomorrow night good luck to them, though, and nothing wrong with a bit of patriotism even if I don't get it myself

saltire · 19/10/2007 08:19

Well let's hope it doesn't melt then

Pennies · 19/10/2007 08:26

What time is the match?

MaureenMLove · 19/10/2007 08:29

Think its 7'ish tomorrow night. Not 100% though.

JONNY - no H

Kickoff is 8pm

I can't cope with another final like 4 years ago - I nearly fainted from screaming (I was there though )

harpsichordcarrier · 19/10/2007 08:51

blimey, no bitterness or rancour there then

casbie · 19/10/2007 08:57

So loving the hype - though only restricted to the and finally... slots - we're in the final ffs

come on england

Troutpout · 19/10/2007 09:06

Why..is there some sort of important match then or something?

MrsBadger · 19/10/2007 09:15

the day after the final four years ago the elderly lady next door stopped dh in the street when he popped out for milk and said "Now, I know England won, and 'Jerusalem' is one of my favourite songs... but not at one o'clock in the morning!"

I have my fingers crossed but having seen the Boks lineup I am realistic about our chances.

MaureenMLove · 19/10/2007 09:26

Oh look, I put a capital 'I' in Wilkinson as well. Apologies for that too!

I've got 4 signed photos of him in my house, each in a different room. He is king here

actually Toby Flood is there too and he's quite nice too.

Caroline1852 · 19/10/2007 09:40

Wilkinson's Column?

casbie · 19/10/2007 09:53

wwoo hoo!

he's not my type genius with a ball mind.

jason robinson - now he's a cutie!!!

littleNonSpecificHolidaylapin · 19/10/2007 10:00

Maureen, you're on good company - I have an Adidas tshirt from the last world cup where they spelled it with an H - and they were official sponsors!

rosmonster · 19/10/2007 10:18

lapin, I was there at the last final too it was my honeymoon !

However, I am realistic about our chances though tomorrow but still praying we win!

harleyweendemon · 19/10/2007 10:22

i am tempted to do a last minute flutter

i had my original money on the irish

helenhismadwife · 19/10/2007 10:32

not unreasonable at all!!

I live in France and its been great this week, French friends were going on last week about how they were going to beat us LOL

Formula one final race as well Lewis could win the world championship, if he does British driver and british team

bossybritches · 19/10/2007 10:35
