I can't stop myself - I don't even watch rugby as a rule! I've just seen Johnny Wilkinsons waxwork being lifted onto the spare plinth in Trafalgar Square and blokes singing 'Swing Low' at Waterloo and I'm a wreck!

The whole hype is gonna kill me by tomorrow night!

COME ON ENGLAND

Eeerrr hate to say this but the ref was IRISH!!

moving rather slowly myself this mornng

TheEvilDediderata · 21/10/2007 11:57

It was the line judge who was Australian ... the one who concluded it wasn't a try

I'm leaving the thread now. I can't bring myself to think of it, let alone speak of it

bossybritches · 21/10/2007 12:06

Dedi- I know it's SUCH a shame . Bet the poor lads are feeling so bruised & battered this morning

littleNonSpecificHolidaylapin · 21/10/2007 12:35

Actually Desi it was the TMO (Television Match Official) Stuart Dickinson who made the decision and he's an Aussie. Not that it really matters

boolepew · 21/10/2007 12:40

Ha ha ha.

TheEvilDediderata · 21/10/2007 12:51

But I'll come back just to say this.

If Scotland had got to the final, and lost, (or anyone else who's laughing at our grief right now), I would have better grace than to crash said thread with snide comments.

Regardless of personal feelings, it boils down to simple good manners.

ladymariner · 21/10/2007 12:52

Hey bossy, shall we offer to give them a rub down!!!!!!
And it wasn't just the decision about the try which rankles, it was all the blatant wrongdoings that the irish ref missed eg Percy thunderbird knocking on, the obstructions, the habana crossover etc etc. Yet he picked up ben kay for really bugger all! It's a conspiracy!
And Annabel, get the hoover/stereo/kids shrieking etc all going v.loudly!!

boolepew · 21/10/2007 12:57

If Scotland, Ireland or Wales had gotten to the final it wouldn't have been the first item on the national news or front page of the national papers. That's what gets my goat.

TheEvilDediderata · 21/10/2007 12:59

Yep! I don't we all know it ...

Cammelia · 21/10/2007 13:07

It was fixed so the bookies didin't go bust

boolepew · 21/10/2007 13:09

Sorry you lost, sorry you're all hungover depressed. We'll never know how it would be reported in the case of any the other 3 countries getting to the finale, because that's so not going to happen.

TheEvilDediderata · 21/10/2007 13:14

Well I was going to make that very point, but figured you'd work it out all by yourself ..

boolepew · 21/10/2007 13:27
bossybritches · 21/10/2007 14:17

Suggest it to techy, boole I'm sure it'd get used lots!!

And a raspberry-blowing one!!

(so dignified & grown-up )

whiskeyandbeer · 21/10/2007 21:08

love all the blaming of the referee on here when he got the decision spot on. never a try and the better team won easily.

TheEvilDediderata · 21/10/2007 23:24

Yes, the better team won. I predicted SA would win the tournament, and they did.

But I guess you're a Scot, too?

littleNonSpecificHolidaylapin · 21/10/2007 23:34

Actually, whiskeyandbeer, if you read the thread you'll see acknowledgement of the correctness of the decision and the fact that SA deserved their victory.

DESI - DH is torturing me! he's watching it again on DVD

policywonk · 21/10/2007 23:37
littleNonSpecificHolidaylapin · 21/10/2007 23:40

Ahh, but you've had some glory days, PW

I was at Wembley in '98 when Wales came close to beating SA... what a game.

TheEvilDediderata · 21/10/2007 23:42

Jesus, Lapin What in the name of Satan's pants is he doing that for????

Policy ... sorry gorgeous, but nope. I've still no idea

But for what it's worth, I always want the Welsh to do better than they do. It's because rugby is such a way of life, and I know how demoralizing it is for you when you lose.

Better luck next time

policywonk · 21/10/2007 23:43

That is very kind of you LL.

I do remember the seventies - or rather, I remember hearing my dad roaring, sometimes from the other side of the street, whenever Wales scored. The neighbours used to joke that they didn't need to watch the match on television.

littleNonSpecificHolidaylapin · 21/10/2007 23:48

Hey, I love my rugby, I'll happily support any of the home nations - as long as they aren't playing England .

My Glaswegian born dad is ashamed of me

Desi - I know, I know... it's agonising.

AitchTwoOh · 21/10/2007 23:51

so did england lose then?

TheEvilDediderata · 21/10/2007 23:55

Aitch! We normally get along, but that's out of order.

As I mentioned earlier on this thread, I would not be so rude as to crash a thread like this with sarcastic comments if the shoe were on the other foot.

If Scotland won the World Cup, I would congratulate you. Please extend the same courtesy.
