I’ve become so disillusioned with his government, it’s corrupt and awful nasty politicians such as Priti Patel and cannot stomach to even see Boris Johnson on the television or the sound of his empty waffling forever gaslighting.

I’m seriously feeling depressed at what we have as a gov’t.

Wouldn’t it be lovely to have a sensible morally correct leadership of intelligent people you could actually trust to lead a nation.

Feeling really down about it.

@Crankley amen to that! Away from nutjobs like you who applaud Priti Patel. Grin

frumpety · 21/11/2020 23:47

I'm with you, OP. It is so depressing trying to raise kids and teach them to be kind and honest, that if they work hard they will be rewarded, that it is important to own up when you make a mistake

I am guessing you haven't suggested a career in Politics then Grin

I’ve lived in a few countries too. Out of these countries, we have far greater poverty and inequality here in the UK. I’ve lived in Switzerland......Standard of living there makes the UK seem like a third world country.

Oh FFS. Comparing the UK to Switzerland. Do some fucking research as to why Switzerland is the way it is, then put your good efforts into supporting Boris and Nigel create a UK enclave similar to Switzerland and Singapore if you feel that way. When we are all rich bankers there will be no poverty...of course..

feelingverylazytoday · 21/11/2020 23:56

@nosswith

I like you am ashamed of this government. I view Mr Johnson as the worst Prime Minister in history.

I am so ashamed of the way the country has gone, especially with Brexit, that when I am abroad on holiday I do my utmost to avoid being identified as British. No clothes with anything on that says 'British', if I go to a museum or attraction and need headphones/commentary I ask for French (can understand enough), and will avoid any 'English' bars.

Did you feel ashamed to be British when Tony Blair forced us into an illegal and unjust war resulting in the deaths of innocent civilians?
GrumblyMumblyisnotJumbly · 22/11/2020 00:23

Crankley I don't defend Priti Patel because of her race or sex, I defend her because she's an excellent Home Secretary, especially compared to the joke we would have got if Labour had won.

Do you defend her bullying behaviour towards her staff too?

Haplap · 22/11/2020 09:34

I dream of NZ or anywhere in Scandinavia. It doesn't have to be like this.

justanotherneighinparadise · 22/11/2020 09:38

I don’t think it matters where you live in the world, there are irregularities and corruption across the board. I can remember being SO glad to get back to the UK after living in the Philippines for six months. The corruption was indescribable and I just wanted to get home.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 22/11/2020 09:39

Me too. Ashamed of Britain.

Not sure we even live in a democracy anymore. Proroguing Parliament. Was that democratic? Trying to overide the
Withdrawal treaty, even though they’d voted for it?

Upholding people like Cummings and Priti.

nosswith · 22/11/2020 09:41

@feelingverylazytoday yes Tony Blair is the only other Prime Minister who I think should face criminal charges.

DynamoKev · 22/11/2020 09:44

I have spent most of my life being fed up that voting didn't reflect my views (I have mostly voted Labour or Green - LIb Dem tactically a couple of times) but I never considered leaving for that reason.
I love it here overall - it's not perfect but having travelled extensively there's probably only Finland or New Zealand I'd consider moving to and neither is practical.
However for people who don't like it - please leave ASAP.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 22/11/2020 09:45

And yes there are irregularities and corruption in every government.

But I’m 57. I’ve never known a government as corrupt as this. Just blatantly wasting money, lying, concealing information and giving contracts to mates

DynamoKev · 22/11/2020 09:49

@PucePanther

I want to go to New Zealand. Life is pretty much normal there because they closed the borders straight away. We’re an island, it’s disappointing that our government didn’t achieve the same.
Ridiculous. NZ has a tiny population in a land area about the same as us with much less international travel (and no tunnel to anywhere!).

The idea we could do the same as them is, frankly, just stupid.

What would you do with the EU truck drivers bringing food from Covid-infested Europe? Quarantine at Dover for two weeks? Would you allow truck drivers from the Republic of Ireland to travel through the UK to reach the continent - or block the route?

There is essential travel and there is allowing unfettered access to the UK for business and tourism, with zero testing or monitoring at points of entry. Yes drivers could have been tested and or quarantined at Dover as many trailers are then hooked up to uk trucks that have been nowhere nr europe. & no its not hindsight, its foresight and a failure of govt but at the time, bojo didn't take Cv seriously did he, even now, judging by his recent isolation, he still doesn't.
Branleuse · 22/11/2020 09:52

I agree, but unfortunately everywhere else is just as bad

Friendsoftheearth · 22/11/2020 09:54

Give me a break, relentless negativity is so depressing.

It is crap everywhere. Everywhere has covid.

For goodness sake develop some EI and look beyond your own misery. At least you are likely to get a vaccine!!! So entitled and really not understanding how privileged you are. I suggest you do much more travelling and see what the real world looks like, rather than the one in your imagination.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 22/11/2020 09:59

‘Negativity is so depressing’

But not every U.K. government has been like this. Most have been ok whatever the pm ( I exclude Thatcher from this)

But this particularly government is a joke. And plenty of people are angry and sick of it. Why is this being ‘negative’?

It’s stating a fact. A fact about the U.K. government. Not other governments across the world. It’s a U.K. issue.

DillonPanthersTexas · 22/11/2020 09:59

even SA felt more together than the uk.

Are you kidding, SA is one of the most racially divided counties in the world. Its government institutions are corrupt and increasingly ineffective.

Chocolatedeficitdisorder · 22/11/2020 09:59

Failing that we'll head to Scotland once they've gone independent - I really can't blame Scotland one bit for wanting to be rid of the rest
of us.

I'm very glad to be in Scotland right now. We're just waiting for our opportunity to vote for a future disentangled from Westminster.

I know that it won't be easy for some years, but it's still a brighter future for my family than remaining in a post-brexit UK under far-right tory rule. If I trusted the people of England to vote differently, I might feel differently, but that trust evaporated last December as I watched the GE votes come in. The brexit vote was a mistake, but giving up the opportunity to reverse it was a humdinger.

jasjas1973 · 22/11/2020 09:59

However for people who don't like it - please leave ASAP

The flaw in that reasoning is that its the skilled and high earners that can/do leave the UK, medical staff to Canada, Aus and NZ is one reason the NHS is understaffed.

In the last 10 or so years, i ve known consultants, teachers, a GP, nurses and a midwife who have left the UK, oh and bike shop owner (to canada) none have returned.

Covid and demand for healthcare workers means that whatever our immigration policy, its going to be harder to attract these workers from any developed country, on the other hand, the UK won't do anything to stop them leaving........

Growing numbers of NHS nurses quit within three years, study finds. Gruelling 12-hour shifts, exhaustion and burnout are leading growing numbers of nurses to quit the NHS within three years of joining, new research reveals. ... There are 40,000 vacancies for nurses in the NHS in England alone (September 2020)

madcatladyforever · 22/11/2020 10:03

I love my country and don't want to live anywhere else but Boris Johnson? What an utter rambling buffoon. He needs to grow up and keep it in his pants.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 22/11/2020 10:03

I don’t want to leave. I’ve lived here all my life, paid my taxes, raised a family.

The shit government needs to leave not the fed up citizens.

madcatladyforever · 22/11/2020 10:05

I grew up abroad in various asian countries and then parts of Europe being towed about after parents who travelled and there really is nothing like home. There is no utopia.

jasjas1973 · 22/11/2020 10:05

@DillonPanthersTexas

No, i'm not, i was there in the early 90s.... and that was my experience, black or white, there was a sense of optimism and hope missing in the UK for decades and now worse than ever, since the brexit vote, which imho has caused split and division that will take a generation to heal.

Do you think the UK's Govt is effective and not corrupt? and we are not divided by race?

Pippin2028 · 22/11/2020 10:09

The UK does have its problems but there is a reason why so many people dream of living here and take the risks to come here. Every country has big issues, and even if you went to Scandinavia which is seen as the best places to live, you will pay enormous taxes and they also have issues as countries. Plenty of people have moved abroad and realised quite quickly that life in the UK is not as bad as they thought.

Hiddennameforever · 22/11/2020 10:10

Most people are not happy with their government in their country.
I’m originally from different European country and I daily read news there and I can see people not happy, protesting in streets..
Same as here.
It’s everywhere. The grass is not greener anywhere, even though it might look like it is- trust me- it I not.
I lived in 2 European countries.
