To want to escape the U.K

I’ve become so disillusioned with his government, it’s corrupt and awful nasty politicians such as Priti Patel and cannot stomach to even see Boris Johnson on the television or the sound of his empty waffling forever gaslighting.

I’m seriously feeling depressed at what we have as a gov’t.

Wouldn’t it be lovely to have a sensible morally correct leadership of intelligent people you could actually trust to lead a nation.

Feeling really down about it.

DH and I are starting to look into moving to Germany or Switzerland. Eldest child is fortunate enough to have another European passport and is currently studying abroad.
I'm not sure the UK has much to offer any more.
Failing that we'll head to Scotland once they've gone independent - I really can't blame Scotland one bit for wanting to be rid of the rest of us.

What happened to Boris Johnson's water canon?

18 November -
"Police in Germany have fired water cannon and pepper spray at anti-coronavirus restriction protesters."

"Officers in Berlin said the thousands of demonstrators refused to heed their requests to wear face masks and social distance in line with regulations."

laxxy · 21/11/2020 22:57

@Balhammom What does your DH think about the education in Germany, the 3-tier system. A German colleague of mine is very critical of it, I had never heard of it before.

ReefTeeth · 21/11/2020 22:59

Ok Clavinova we get it😂

You seem to think everywhere else is as bad as the UK. But it really isn't.

There is a certain irony in leaving the UK because of Brexit - only to move to a country which rears hormone-treated beef. Grin

I’ve lived in a few places and the UK is by far the freest most just society I’ve experienced. People die trying to get here.

*

I’ve lived in a few countries too. Out of these countries, we have far greater poverty and inequality here in the UK. I’ve lived in Switzerland where it seemed a lot more democratic as votes are regularly put to the public on all kinds of issues. Standard of living there makes the UK seem like a third world country. My point is, it’s all relative. But here in the UK we love to compare our country to those beneath us, and not to other Western European or Scandinavian countries that quite frankly do better.

A lot of people try to come here not because the UK is super rich or democratic - it’s mostly to do with being an English speaking country.

Schummakker · 21/11/2020 23:07

We have the possibility of Canada, Ireland and Switzerland at the moment.

Anyone who defends Priti purely on the basis of her colour and sex please open your goddamn eyes!

I almost emigrated to Vancouver a few years ago. I love it there. Go for Canada.

romeolovedjulliet · 21/11/2020 23:09

sick to death of people moaning about living in britain, if you don't like living here, move and fuck off out of it plenty of people threatened to in the post brexit results and most of them are probably still here and still bitching.

Honestly Clavinova there is no irony 😂

You're verging on being crackers!

I left the UK because of the fall out to the economy from Brexit. Nothing to do with meat. Promise.

Takethereigns · 21/11/2020 23:09

I left the Uk after brexit was voted through. I’m not saying I won’t ever go back but I’m happy in Australia for now.( yes I left the Uk because I didnt want to leave the EU....went to non EU country 😂)

I agree with others that the grass isn’t always greener, you may move countries only for a Boris equivalent to be voted into power.

Schummakker · 21/11/2020 23:10

@PurpleDaisies A cousin of mine emigrated there and has such an enviable life!

Thank you, I’m definitely interested but DH thinks a bit far. We shall see.

My leaving Britain to go to Australia also had nothing to do with hormone treated beef.

Schummakker · 21/11/2020 23:12

@romeolovedjulliet that’s precisely what I’m aiming for so fuck off yourself Flowers

You're verging on being crackers!

You obviously haven't read the food standards threads - some posters are up-in-arms over hormone-treated beef and chlorinated chicken.

greyhills · 21/11/2020 23:26

@CloudMoon

You're definitely not alone OP with those thoughts, I agree and people I know are the same. That's all I can say. We know the facts.
Hmm

These facts, that are so far exclusive to you and the people you know - what are they then?

This is what makes Britain such a great place, world beating tolerance Hmm

2018 -
"Australia to demand Britain accepts hormone‑treated beef."

"Australia is reportedly set to demand that Britain imports hormone-treated beef under a post-Brexit trade deal. Hormone-treated beef has been banned for years from all EU countries on safety grounds."

@ripples101

I have just become so disgusted with the government’s incompetence. This year has been horrible, and a bad situation has been made worse by an inept bunch of people.

I read a thread on here that talked about how we had had a pandemic conference before the pandemic hit, and what a coincidence that was. That hint at conspiracy theory wasn’t what made me sit up and take notice however.

What made me wonder was, if a pandemic discussion was something that regularly happens, something that so called intelligent leaders regularly discuss, so that if a pandemic does actually happen they will be prepared...

... then why the hell has their response to the current pandemic been such a shit show?

If you think this is bad, can you imagine what it would have been like if they hadn't had any plans at all?
PucePanther · 21/11/2020 23:32

I want to go to New Zealand. Life is pretty much normal there because they closed the borders straight away. We’re an island, it’s disappointing that our government didn’t achieve the same.

user1471448556 · 21/11/2020 23:35

Agree OP ... but Brexsh@t has made it far harder to escape. Ironic really - so many people who are not comfortable with Brexit Britain forced to stay here by the very concept they dislike.

Crankley · 21/11/2020 23:39

I don't defend Priti Patel because of her race or sex, I defend her because she's an excellent Home Secretary, especially compared to the joke we would have got if Labour had won.

I hope this isn't just an empty threat, like that idiot Jamie Oliver who threatened to leave if Leave won the referendum. He's still here and made himself look ridiculous. There's no need to announce your departure, no-one cares. While you're at it, do us all a favour, the country can do with less negativity so I hope you're planning to take all the other moanies with you.

What would you do with the EU truck drivers bringing food from Covid-infested Europe? Quarantine at Dover for two weeks? Would you allow truck drivers from the Republic of Ireland to travel through the UK to reach the continent - or block the route?
