Positive Covid test but we have no food in!

ViralVera · 15/11/2020 00:15

I got a text at 10pm tonight to say the DS is positive for CV. He hasn’t really had symptoms but THREE members at his SN college tested positive earlier this week so he was sent home to isolate and I wanted to make sure as DH is a keyworker. I really didn’t think it would be positive.

I’m bloody furious that staff have passed it onto vulnerable students. DS is classed as CEV so has been taught to be very good with hygiene but the staff haven’t been wearing masks, and didn’t seem to adhering to 2m social distancing at his induction session, but that’s another thread.

This means the whole household needs to isolate from now obviously but we are a family of 6 (adults) and get through a LOT of food so I shop every 2/3 days. The next big shop was due to be tomorrow!

The earliest online delivery I can get is for Wednesday and we literally only have milk, eggs, chips, meat and rice/pasta but not enough for 4 days. No squash/bread/cereal/yoghurts/fruit/veg etc.

There is literally no one local we can ask. DH’s brother lives an hour away but his family also has Covid (not from us as we haven’t seen them for months).

It’ll be a lot of shopping for a volunteer to get, if I can find one.

I’ve booked the other 5 of us for a drive in tests tomorrow so I was thinking about me and DH double masking and scooting round Tesco chucking stuff in trolleys as quickly as possible straight afterwards.

Should we? If we have it tomorrow, we had it today too!

Do you really have no friends who could get you some food? That’s really sad. You can’t ‘scoot around Tesco’ and potentially cause someone else CEV or otherwise to catch covid from you, you know that really.

Gancanny · 15/11/2020 00:35

Ringing local councillors, school mums and grasping at other straws is just too faffy, inconvenient and stressful

Yes, far less inconvenient to go out and potentially infect other people. Fuck them, right?

chipsandgin · 15/11/2020 00:36

You’re raging - imagine how upset the elderly person who dies (& their family) would be as a result of getting it from you as you race around the supermarket.

If you are considering risking other people’s lives then being raging about whatever route of transmission your son got it by isn’t entirely appropriate- it’s mindblowingly self-centred and a huge example of double standards.. there are multiple Facebook groups for local support & all of the suggestions above. Please don’t.

SleepingStandingUp · 15/11/2020 00:37

@Floralnomad

I’m sorry but are you seriously saying that in a family of 6 adults not one of you has a friend locally who could go shopping for you ?
Also this, I think it's really sad that they're isn't a single neighbour or friend or work colleague who would help you out. They don't need to do a fortnight shop, you've got for in and can get a delivery Wednesday, so you need 4 days of food and you've got some stuff in anyway so it's really just top ups. Much as I think @Wherehavetheteletubbiesgone is being ridiculous, you could do basics and take out for for days if you really didn't want anyone to do more than a couple of bags of shopping for you
PerkingFaintly · 15/11/2020 00:37

Yy to Morrison's delivery box and also brainstorming on MN what to do with what ingredients you have in.

The menu may be a little different from usual, but if it keeps you fed and alive till the big shop arrives, job done.

Also Flowers. I know you're really upset at your CEV son being infected. It's hard to be re-planning everything on the hoof while still reeling from the news.

WidowTwonky · 15/11/2020 00:37

How can you be raging about the possibility of someone at college passing it on (when they were not breaking any laws) yet you are considering breaking the rules by shopping?? YA totally U

GoldenOmber · 15/11/2020 00:37

Morrison’s food boxes will do next day delivery if you order before 3, so you could have one arriving on Monday.

LittleRa · 15/11/2020 00:37

@Brunt0n

You’re ‘fucking raging’ people have passed COVID on whilst just doing their jobs yet you’re happy to go around Tesco and pass it to everyone there? Brilliant.
Absolutely this, I came on the post almost word for word.
38weekswithno2 · 15/11/2020 00:38

One of them for definite was in college on Monday, then got a positive test on Tuesday. I am fucking raging.

You're raging with them yet you're willing to go to the supermarket?

SkiingIsHeaven · 15/11/2020 00:38

6 adults and not one of you has someone who can drop a few things off for you?

Just ask them to get a few bits every few days, not a full weekly shop for 6 adults straight away.

Do not go shopping.

blue25 · 15/11/2020 00:38

Why are you “raging” at the staff who have been doing their job teaching your son in crappy conditions? I’m sure they didn’t want to catch Covid either.

sorryforswearing · 15/11/2020 00:38

Ridiculous to blame school staff. You lost my sympathy there. Even more ridiculous to think of going out when you’re positive. Maybe someone else who went shopping whilst positive is the reason the school staff became infected. You just don’t know.

DaddysGirlForLife · 15/11/2020 00:39

Please don't go to Tesco. That would be very selfish of you.

Also, you & your husband don't need a test unless you show symptoms. Please don't waste them.

Lock down this time around is so different. There are loads of apps that you can use. Get a take away if you need to. Contact track & trace for a food parcel.

Where do you live? Dont you have any friends/colleagues you can ask?
I asked my colleague to do a "basic" shop for me. Ive also done it for a few others. There must be someone! Dont panic.

reginaphalangeeee · 15/11/2020 00:39

Not sure if it's already been mentioned, but do you get Amazon Prime Now? It's same day groceries from Amazon using Morrisons. You pick a 2 hour time slot.

SleepingStandingUp · 15/11/2020 00:40

@Madein1995

I dont see what other options are availanle anyhow. Op isnt coughing her guts up and intending to go out sans mask dragging all the family with her! If theres no one available then there is no one available. Ringing local councillors, school mums and grasping at other straws is just too faffy, inconvenient and stressful.
Amazon, Deliveroo etc. A Facebook post that takes less time than on here Making do with what they've got Ordering takeout One of the six adults calling a friend who lives lovely and asking a favour

All of those are more reasonable that going to Tesco when they're meant to be isolating and are angry at other people for passing it on!

Oh I had Covid but I couldn't be arsed with the faff of isolation is beyond selfish

Ilovefriday · 15/11/2020 00:41

I know you said that there are no click and collects but Aldi near me has just started doing it and they wouldn't have been on my list to check so I thought I'd mention it. Hope you all stay well.

SleepingStandingUp · 15/11/2020 00:41

@SkiingIsHeaven

6 adults and not one of you has someone who can drop a few things off for you?

Just ask them to get a few bits every few days, not a full weekly shop for 6 adults straight away.

Do not go shopping.

Also, after the pandemic, you all need to make more effort to make friends
Crunched · 15/11/2020 00:42

Also if you have a co-op near you, phone and ask if they're delivering. Our local co-op store and several others in the area are doing same day delivery of telephone orders for local residents.
We are a bit remote for Deliveroo but The Snappy Shopper App delivers within an hour from the local Co-Op

Brighterthansunflowers · 15/11/2020 00:43

YABVVVU

you shouldn’t be getting any of you tested unless you have symptoms

You definitely shouldn’t be going to the supermarket

It’s extremely hypocritical of you to be “fucking raging” that you assume staff have passed it on to DS yet you’re happy to risk passing it on to others!

And yes, as PP said you knew this was a possibility when you got your son tested but didn’t prepare for it

There are volunteers who will shop for you. But you absolutely should not go to the supermarket when you should be isolating. And you’re wasting tests which won’t make a difference to you having to isolate or not.

restie · 15/11/2020 00:43

was in similar boat...found that Iceland deliveries have lots of availability near me..next day delivery..not normally a Iceland shopper - but will be grateful when they turn up tomorrow!

DressingGownofDoom · 15/11/2020 00:44

Pretty much every shop local to me has a service where you can ring up, they arrange to take your shopping list via phone or email and take payment over the phone and drop off onto your doorstep.

Even if you did go into Tesco, why does your husband have to go with you Confused

DianaT1969 · 15/11/2020 00:44

I hate to think that when I am in the supermarket, with my mask on, being careful, that there are people like you, doing a big shop for 6 adults, while knowing they may well have Covid.
Yet you are raging?

Paddingtonjuice · 15/11/2020 00:45

Massively agree that OP should not go to the supermarket but there is no need to shame them did not having a friend to go shopping for them. Some people are in that situation through no fault of their own. Especially difficult if you have children with special needs. Some people ostracise you. Be kind. OP there will be so many people on your local Facebook sites that will help you x

OrangeIsTheNewTwat · 15/11/2020 00:46

My neighbour was in this situation. On the way back from the test, the parent (single mum of disabled adult who may have caught it at college), went & stocked up a massive shop with a click & collect. It came back positive, & they had to manage with deliveries, Facebook volunteers & whatever other help they could get for several weeks. Why didn't you? You blame your DS's tutors but are willing to risk an entire supermarket full of staff, who are all keyworkers, because you didn't plan ahead? Plus whatever customers you may encounter.
