Positive Covid test but we have no food in!

I got a text at 10pm tonight to say the DS is positive for CV. He hasn’t really had symptoms but THREE members at his SN college tested positive earlier this week so he was sent home to isolate and I wanted to make sure as DH is a keyworker. I really didn’t think it would be positive.

I’m bloody furious that staff have passed it onto vulnerable students. DS is classed as CEV so has been taught to be very good with hygiene but the staff haven’t been wearing masks, and didn’t seem to adhering to 2m social distancing at his induction session, but that’s another thread.

This means the whole household needs to isolate from now obviously but we are a family of 6 (adults) and get through a LOT of food so I shop every 2/3 days. The next big shop was due to be tomorrow!

The earliest online delivery I can get is for Wednesday and we literally only have milk, eggs, chips, meat and rice/pasta but not enough for 4 days. No squash/bread/cereal/yoghurts/fruit/veg etc.

There is literally no one local we can ask. DH’s brother lives an hour away but his family also has Covid (not from us as we haven’t seen them for months).

It’ll be a lot of shopping for a volunteer to get, if I can find one.

I’ve booked the other 5 of us for a drive in tests tomorrow so I was thinking about me and DH double masking and scooting round Tesco chucking stuff in trolleys as quickly as possible straight afterwards.

Should we? If we have it tomorrow, we had it today too!

Just as an update for all those saying that the rest of my household shouldn’t have had tests as we didn’t have symptoms, two more of my DC have come back positive (DH, myself and another DC are negative) and they attended school and college until Friday.

They still have no symptoms but if they hadn’t had a test and just isolated for the 14 days, we may have been none the wiser. As it is their teaching bubbles have just been sent home to isolate.

@ViralVera yes it's a flaw in the system, still doesn't mean you technically should have, that's gov policy for you though. Still, not sure why you're being quite so smug about it, bizarre. The real burning question is whether you went out to buy food and risk passing it on whilst simultaneously being outraged that someone at work may or may not have passed it onto your DS through the course of their challenging job?

HazeyJaneII · 16/11/2020 14:26

I hope you are all ok. I also hooe you continue to self isolate, as those that tested negative, are still in the incubation period and so could still come down with it. I also hope you managed to get some support until your food delivery on Weds, and didn't have to go to Tesco.

asnugglysnerd · 16/11/2020 14:27

You can't go out and just "scoot" around the shop...

It is very clear - if anyone in the household is diagnosed with Covid, the entire household needs to isolate.

I wish your son well, but please just follow the rules.

ZombieAttack · 16/11/2020 14:29

The OP has updated.

Hope you’re all well OP, regardless of my views on not going to Tesco!

FelicityBob · 16/11/2020 14:37

So if half your family has covid then maybe your son got it from them rather than the college? And being asymptomatic could have passed it around college? You seem very quick to judge the college (although obviously it could have been from there too).
I do hope you all have a healthy isolation period.

Whattheactual20201 · 16/11/2020 14:50

I’m confused your raging it was passed on to your DC but wanted to go Tesco to pass it to others.

I wonder if the parents of all the other children in your DCs class are raging at your family for passing it on 🤔
user1471457751 · 16/11/2020 15:56

So it may not have been from the college at all? And your child could have got it from siblings and passed it around the college? Maybe those people should be raging at you...

JoeCalFuckingZaghe · 16/11/2020 16:12

Raging at the college because his dare those idiot teachers catch coronavirus, yet you think it’s acceptable to swan around Tesco knowing you could spread it.
Plague Rats.

Get a takeaway and get a friend to get you some shopping

timeforanewstart · 16/11/2020 17:00

@lemons1571 you would just ask them to get what you are desperate for and make do with what you have
Where do you normally get your food from ?

boomboom1234 · 16/11/2020 17:04

Surely you can see the irony in what you are saying. You are fuming that someone put your child at risk and yet you are prepared to go to the supermarket and potentially spread it to someone who may be there shopping for someone vulnerable. I'm so fed up of this selfish attitude. We all have to do our bit to stop this bloody virus spreading. Get a bloody takeaway for a few days it's just not a thing.

AlwaysLatte · 16/11/2020 17:13

Why are you furious about it being passed on when you're considering putting others at risk in the supermarket?
Try places others have suggested online (loads of people will be happy to help), or maybe the milkman?

Northernsoulgirl45 · 16/11/2020 17:49

Glad you got sorted op and I hope your ds is ok.
I don't really need to tell you how unreasonable you were about the staff or everything else really.

Oh dear, I hope your other children's classmates and parents aren't raging at you for passing Covid on.

I do hope your children all stay well during this time.

Hercwasonaroll · 16/11/2020 18:17

You still shouldn't have had tests according to the rules.

I hope you're less raging now and your children's classmates aren't angry at you for a 2 week isolation.

😂😂😂😂 @DressingGownofDoom

firesong · 16/11/2020 18:27

Do you have Amazon Prime, you can use Prime Now for a quick delivery?

I would beg for help on Facebook if need be. I'm preparing for this kind of thing to happen, I'm a single parent and am bound to end up isolating yet again with the kids...

Tunnocks34 · 16/11/2020 18:49

My test results came back in 13 hours.

AdoraBell · 16/11/2020 22:00

Glad you managed to book a delivery slot 👍

Aridane · 19/11/2020 18:14

For all those saying oh fine to nip out to supermarkets, chances of contracting covid in a supermarket are vanishingly rare etc...

news.sky.com/story/covid-19-supermarkets-most-common-places-visited-before-positive-test-latest-data-12136418

Though maybe as supermarkets and school are the only central meeting places, factories and work places apart, that’s hardly surprising
