Positive Covid test but we have no food in!

ViralVera · 15/11/2020 00:15

I got a text at 10pm tonight to say the DS is positive for CV. He hasn’t really had symptoms but THREE members at his SN college tested positive earlier this week so he was sent home to isolate and I wanted to make sure as DH is a keyworker. I really didn’t think it would be positive.

I’m bloody furious that staff have passed it onto vulnerable students. DS is classed as CEV so has been taught to be very good with hygiene but the staff haven’t been wearing masks, and didn’t seem to adhering to 2m social distancing at his induction session, but that’s another thread.

This means the whole household needs to isolate from now obviously but we are a family of 6 (adults) and get through a LOT of food so I shop every 2/3 days. The next big shop was due to be tomorrow!

The earliest online delivery I can get is for Wednesday and we literally only have milk, eggs, chips, meat and rice/pasta but not enough for 4 days. No squash/bread/cereal/yoghurts/fruit/veg etc.

There is literally no one local we can ask. DH’s brother lives an hour away but his family also has Covid (not from us as we haven’t seen them for months).

It’ll be a lot of shopping for a volunteer to get, if I can find one.

I’ve booked the other 5 of us for a drive in tests tomorrow so I was thinking about me and DH double masking and scooting round Tesco chucking stuff in trolleys as quickly as possible straight afterwards.

Should we? If we have it tomorrow, we had it today too!

@AlrightTreacle

You really don't have a neighbour you can ask? Your adult kids don't have a friend who can drive, or a friend with a parent/family member who can drive? There must be someone you can ask surely? I don't know my neighbours that well, but if they asked me to go and do a shop for them because they had to self isolate then I happily would, hopefully they would do the same.
Good news op, hope the virus doesn't impact you or your family too badly.
puffinkoala · 15/11/2020 17:37

@uncomfortablydumb53

I'm not going to add any practice advice to the many kind and resourceful posters above I'm dumbfounded that an educated woman with a vulnerable child has no insight or self responsibility for others Your first thought is to go to Tesco, knowing your child has tested positive. Have you heard of Google? Get on it and think outside the box I have to say, if this is typical of your personality I'm not surprised you are friendless
What a nasty post. Completely uncalled for.
Torvean32 · 15/11/2020 17:46

Firstly you should not book tests for ppl with no symptoms. You have 1 positive, you sit the 14 days isolation.

By the sounds of it, if you were resourceful you could easily make that food last 3 days until you could get a home delivery.

Do not send anyone round Tesco or anywhere else.
Deliveroo can deliver small shops to tide you over.

Beclam · 15/11/2020 17:50

As somebody who works in a supermarket i would say definitely not to go and i would say you would be completely irresponsible to do so.
You cant really take the high ground about his teachers not following social distancing and then for yourself to not follow guidelines for living with someone who has it which are all of you isolating until your 2 weeks are up.
I get that your panicking that you will run out of food but as other people have said there are other options. I really hope you get it sorted x

How can u live somewhere 4 years and have kids and not know anyone. I don't know dc friends parents that way but I'm sure it the current climate if one dc rang a mate they would help.
This is how it's spread by people just popping to Tescos when they should be isolating please don't. Also to be fuming perhaps teacher had no symptoms when in work and acted promptly when did n

ShirleyPhallus · 15/11/2020 18:57

I can’t believe people are still coming on this thread, at page 16, to say what literally hundreds of other people have already said Confused

Oldtimer2020 · 15/11/2020 19:02

Ring your local church. They all seem to be running groups of volunteers to help with exactly this situation.

Please don’t go to the supermarket.

Wishing you well.

OrangeIsTheNewTwat · 15/11/2020 19:09

I do wish people would bother to read all the OP's posts before posting.

OP, I'm glad you've managed to get a delivery slot so quickly. Hopefully you can get plenty of food etc delivered. Don't forget non-food items. Make sure you get another couple of slots booked ASAP for the next few weeks so you're not left in a difficult position again. Hope you're all OK & avoid the virus or get away with negligible symptoms.

Sweettea1 · 15/11/2020 19:30

You do not need a full shop to last you till Wed write a list of the main things you need then ask a neighbour to pick up in these times am sure some1 will be willing to help do not go dashing around the shops risking infecting more people plus why would you an husband need togo doubling the risk this is why we are in a 2nd lockdown people doing as they like without thinking of others.

Mydogmylife · 15/11/2020 19:39

@stackemhigh

You're allowed to go out and buy food in an emergency, and this IS an emergency if there is no way to get food delivered to you.

People here are just angry that they can'r beat you with a stick because you have already exhausted other options so they can't smugly tell you to do anything.

And yes, we have had CV-19 but was in the fortunate situation of family providing food.

No, she hasn't exhausted all options, she hasn't actually tried any- she's a total fool
Soontobe60 · 15/11/2020 19:43

@ViralVera

No click and collects available either.

Bit of a coincidence that 3 staff members test positive then DS gets it isn’t it Cookie? None of the rest of us have had symptoms. They are in his ‘bubble’. One of them for definite was in college on Monday, then got a positive test on Tuesday. I am fucking raging.

I’m sure you are, but so will be those people you could pass the virus on to if you decide to run round Tesco tomorrow if you do have it but are asymptomatic.
nosswith · 15/11/2020 19:44

Panic over then.

OP, please don't get everyone so worked up in future.

Self absorbed, entitled and lacking any sense of forethought in the midst of a national lockdown....good job Mumsnet was here eh ?

Lemons1571 · 15/11/2020 20:15

Can I just ask, as we live pretty rural and there’s no deliveroo or Amazon now round here. We don’t have prime. Tesco have no delivery or click and collect, there’s just nothing now (there was in the summer). If a volunteer goes shopping for you, how do you pay for £100 worth of shopping (we have a large family?). Do they pay and then you transfer them the money? Do they trust you up front? I would be happy to stay in isolating and do this, but have wondered whether it’s a big ask.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 15/11/2020 20:16

Can you make a plea to a neighbour? The one nice thing about lockdown is we really have got to know our neighbours better. We've all had each other's backs through this all year....

Yolande7 · 15/11/2020 20:39

There are always people offering to help with shopping on nextdoor.co.uk. They would be local to you.

Please do not go to a supermarket. If people don't self-isolate, we will never get out of this situation.

RedToothBrush · 15/11/2020 21:09

6 adults in the house - including young people - and not one of them has a friend they can ask?

I find this hard to believe tbh!!!

ineedaholidaynow · 15/11/2020 21:22

@Lemons1571 are there any local independent shops doing deliveries or click and collect, our local farm shop is.

chipshopElvis · 15/11/2020 21:30

No you shouldn't go to Tesco. You are not special. Its shit but there are numerous ways in which you will not starve.

Silvershimmering · 15/11/2020 21:44

Some young people are asymptomatic, you really can’t blame the teachers.

Some adults are asymptomatic too.

You would be very unreasonable to get tested when you have no symptoms

You are also breaking the law, by breaking your isolation and going into Tesco.

Silvershimmering · 15/11/2020 21:48

Lemons, at some supermarkets you can buy a volunteers payment card.

You put money on it, and allow your volunteer to use it to pay.
You might just have to email them the code, you need to check on line.
Sainsburys and Asda, I think do this.

Have a look at your local councils coronavirus page, there is often lots of information on there.

NHSRespondersVolunteers are also a group to contact if you’re stuck in situations like this

BluebellsGreenbells · 15/11/2020 22:02

You should know a reasonable cost and agree to pay via PayPal or bank transfer

Remember they have to trust you too!

But join a local FB page for information on volunteers and organizations for help

Round here St John ambulance organized prescription delivery for example
