Will Donald pardon the turkeys or will the turkeys pardon Donald?

I think some people are getting lost in outrage over Trump. They are angry and want to see him punished. But this would play into his hands and would help him draw more people to the mass movement he's trying to build.

It would be better if things played out and in the run of time for the majority of people, including a large number of Republicans, to run out of patience with Trump and for their view to change into "sore loser" and "inadequate". It makes sense to indulge him with the legal cases, some of which are vexatious and some of which have an arguable point (but wouldn't change any of the results), and let the public watch as the ridiculous ones get closed down one by one so that when the remaining one or two are being argued substantively people will understand that team Trump are just arguing for the sake of it. Hopefully by then most people will either be bored or will be weary and just wanting the nonsense to stop.

There's much to be said for handing Trump enough rope in the sense of (limited) time and scope to arse about rather than handing him a gift of being "denied justice" and "being persecuted".

Jaxhog · 12/11/2020 16:17

You'd think the US system would absolutely prevent a coup, but it doesn't. Trump is really egotistical and ruthless enough to drive the Republicans into breaking the gentleman's rules about who the electoral college will vote for. He is also waging a serious misinformation war on social media that the Democrats are largely ignoring (at their peril).

Biden is the clear winner, but I wouldn't underestimate Trump.

HoldingTight · 12/11/2020 16:51

Bloody hell. He's getting more dangerous by the minute. What shit is he watching?

Ignore him.
Its what Barr and the Senators and the Pentagon officials are doing

Dana Dash @danadashcnn

New: As of now, do not expect the President to make any public moves acknowledging his loss until at least after the Georgia recount ends November 20th, per a source with knowledge.

PatriciaHolm · 12/11/2020 16:59

He's watching One America News, which out-Foxes Fox News these days. Very far right, very pro Trump, conspiracy theorists, bordering on the insane.

It was their reporter who let Sacha Baron Cohen and his "daughter" (ahem) into the White House.

1/New - Sen. Chuck Grassley, who is the most senior Republican in the Senate, told me that President-elect Joe Biden should have access to classified briefings to prepare for the transition.

“I would think - especially on classified briefings - the answer is yes,” Grassley said.

2/Asked if the GSA should sign off on the requisite paperwork to allow for the transition to officially take place, Grassley told that “we ought to do what we did” after the contested 2000 election.

3/Asked about the 9/11 report that warned that the shortened transition period contributed to the lack of preparedness, Grassley said: “Well, I still would just stick by what I said whatever was done in 2000 ought to be done again.”

They know a dead duck when they see one.

The largest law firm representing the Trump campaign or its allies in post-election litigation challenging votes in key states has withdrawn from an election lawsuit in Maricopa County, Arizona.

Associate Presiding Civil Judge Daniel Kiley on Tuesday granted Snell & Wilmer's request to withdraw as counsel of record for the Republican National Committee. The RNC had teamed-up with the Trump campaign and the Arizona Republican Party in the case, which alleges that Maricopa County incorrectly rejected some votes cast on Election Day.

Gotta love Wikipedia.

Their page on "dominion voting systems" says

Following the 2020 United States presidential election, some right-wing personalities made baseless claims that Dominion Voting Systems had been compromised, resulting in votes intended for incumbent President Donald Trump going to rival Joe Biden. There is no evidence for these claims.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 12/11/2020 17:47

(I wonder how long that will last.)

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 12/11/2020 17:49

Trump supporters grasp of reality is incredibly slim.

"He will concede, better than Hillary who hasn't given up 3... 4 years later"
Say, what?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 12/11/2020 18:00

"If he loses, they come after all of us supporters."

I wonder who she reckons "they" are?

[quote TheNorthWestPawsage]Interesting assessment.

Biden-voting counties equal 70% of America’s economy. What does this mean for the nation’s political-economic divide?

'A Trump campaign attorney conceded in court on Thursday morning that he tried to enter hundreds of dodgy form-filed affidavits into evidence, even though their own investigation found that a subset of the sworn statements that they received were filled with lies and “spam.”

“This is concerning,” Judge Daniel Kiley, from Arizona’s Maricopa County, remarked with some understatement.'

lionheart · 12/11/2020 19:19

'By contrast, Republicans represent an economic base situated in the nation’s struggling small towns and rural areas. Prosperity there remains out of reach for many, and the party sees no reason to consider the priorities and needs of the nation’s metropolitan centers. That is not a scenario for economic consensus or achievement.

At the same time, the results from last week’s election likely underscore fundamental problems of economic alienation and estrangement. Specifically, Trump’s anti-establishment appeal suggests that a sizable portion of the country continues to feel little connection to the nation’s core economic enterprises, and chose to channel that animosity into a candidate who promised not to build up all parts of the country, but rather to vilify groups who didn’t resemble his base.'

This is what was concerning me. The lengths Trump’s supporters and legal team even would go to
