Is is just me or has MN reached peak craziness

I probably need to back away from my screen - but is it just me or has this weekend seen the most ott responses to threads and everyday stuff ever?

I think perhaps lockdown is getting to people - but without mentioning specific threads I’ve seen the biggest over reactions ever on threads.

This isn’t a “MN” is going downhill thing, more Aibu to think that responses are suddenly absolutely mental.

(Semi- lighthearted).

I mean, I like cheese and I like coffee...

Smile

This is channeling Joey in Friends eating his 'trifle a la shepherd's pie':

"Coffee? Good!
Cheese? Good!
What's not to like?"

It's brilliant. Makes me and mine feel sane! I can't wait for the "he's having an affair" to pop up, just because he's wearing colourful socks (example).

Is there a male equivalent of MN? I'd love to see what they get neurotic and all contrary about. Cars, guitars and football? Business cards? Grin

GlummyMcGlummerson · 10/11/2020 09:58

Re benefit fraud hysteria - There's a thread at the moment whereby someone "accidentally" received some letters addressed to her house but for her neighbour (because that happens all the time) and the letters revealed ALL the benefits she was on, plus bank statements showing a bajillion pounds, plus some sort of confirmation of "a free car"....doesn't sound made up at all. It really doesn't sound like a presumptive neighbour thinking "how can I make it sound like I KNOW she gets all this stuff( even though I don't know". No sir-ee all above board here

The horror of public toilets that long precedes Covid, resulting in "hovering". Without MN, I'd never have known that there was an entire movement of terrified women waving their bums over toilet seats for fear of...something. Think how much poorer my life would have been.

Pikachubaby · 10/11/2020 17:07

I know, loo hoverers

And the horror of guests (or even worse, w o r k m e n Envy using your loo)

The horror of any parent who ever lets their baby if kid cry (“Unlike you I happen to love my kid, and I will prove this to the world by breastfeeding for 6 years.... my cousin actually did this, so not just MN)

I feel a bit sorry for younger generation mums who get all this batshit advice

I found this out in a particularly unpleasant experience after I used a loo after a hoverer and sat in her piss as I didn't check first (this person was known to me so I had a reason to expect it to be left in a decent state).

Mad as a box of frogs.

The sites I visit (sports) are about 30% focused on the sport with the rest being the usual relgion/politics/music and random shit fights like on here. There is also a lot of serious support around say alcohol, illness, nutrition, redundancy, divorce etc. With the latter it is interesting to see the fallout from a male perspective. The humour tends to a lot more robust and and advice tends to be pretty direct and blunt.

I ventured unwittingly into a thread today that claimed that everyone who had not yet finished their Christmas shopping was a superior and smug wanker Wink

Read that again

Am still trying to make sense of it

People are feeling very STRONGLY about STUFF Wine

The recent Christmas Eve box thread (don't worry if you missed it, there'll be others) had people moralising about hot chocolate (and plenty of other stuff, but that was a new one). "Sweet milky filth", I think the phrase was, plus a rant about awful women who "bang on" about it. Also a surprising number of posters who claimed they "couldn't understand the concept of Christmas pyjamas". I really don't know what they were struggling with...
MrsBobDylan · 10/11/2020 19:33

There was a good one about whether spending £1k on each of her 3 kids would result in 'enough' Xmas presents.

I get very sad about all the threads from women who have terrible partners and who post to see if it's their fault. I wish I wasn't on MN for those because it is depressing to know how many kinds are being raised in homes with at least one abusive parent.

I am getting to the stage where I could probably advise them to LTB without needing to read the op Grin

@Butterer

and *@ShebaShimmyShake* don't go!

You also just made me think twice about some of the language I've used recently- thank you.

Thank YOU.
VinylDetective · 10/11/2020 21:33

Anyone seen the horror because allegedly the army will be delivering the cold vaccine. It takes bonkers to a new level.

My fault. I hate bloody autocorrect. 😢

I like the couples and families shopping one in AIBU, where someone thinks that couples shopping together is 'clingy controlling and weird' and there is much hysterical spouting about too many people spreading The Virus.

WTF!

sst1234 · 10/11/2020 22:30

A few days ago when anti fireworks hysteria was at peak strength, someone complained that her hamster was getting upset because of the fireworks so they should banned - the fireworks, not the hamster. This is not a joke, she was serious. Taking batshit to a new level.

WTF!

And the competitive hysteria: Person A - I think that couples shouldn’t be shopping together during the pandemic Person B - I even think that they shouldn’t be shopping together during normal times Person C - what? Shopping together? What’s the need for people to step outside the house in 2s? That’s encroaching my personal space in public and disturbing my peace Person D - You’re all way too relaxed about this? The plant is too full, we don’t need people.

@averylongtimeago

Oh for the old days of the Friday night drunk thread and general silliness, well mixed up with help, information and humour. As well as field full of vipers of course.

Now someone says something someone else doesn't agree with and it's cuntcalling all round.

Ah I miss the Friday night drink threads. Those were funny! Grin
bloodyhairy · 10/11/2020 23:16

The strong reactions on the Christmas bell-ringing thread were very telling. But misery loves company, I suppose.

TheSunIsStillShining · 11/11/2020 00:02

The 40th bday present has a tiny gem
"Tiffany necklace, new car, New York weekend and boat party on the Thames."
If that is not a troll than I def married wrong :) but i want to believe it's a troll and then it's funny.

CorianderBlues · 11/11/2020 08:12

It does get nutty in places, but it's still one of the most civil forums I've come across. I've never personally seen any doxxing, rape or death threats, photoshopped porn and so on.

I think it can be one of the most poisonous forums - there seem to be a hardcore ready to leap on anything and everything, especially if it's an AIBU about DHs.

I've never seen doxxing, death threats etc on any other fora either - where else do you frequent?!
