Is is just me or has MN reached peak craziness

I probably need to back away from my screen - but is it just me or has this weekend seen the most ott responses to threads and everyday stuff ever?

I think perhaps lockdown is getting to people - but without mentioning specific threads I’ve seen the biggest over reactions ever on threads.

This isn’t a “MN” is going downhill thing, more Aibu to think that responses are suddenly absolutely mental.

(Semi- lighthearted).

It doesn't help when people don't RTFT or even just the OP's posts and continue to put the boot in.

I assume a lot of people on here are really miserable and just go looking for a bunfight.

BonnieDundee · 09/11/2020 14:04

I'm finding the temptation to get a bit overinvested atm. It's down to me having far too much time on my hands. I think I need to take myself off to Netflix if I find my temper fraying or I may look at the carpet fitter thread as I was not around then

derxa · 09/11/2020 14:10

@thenightsky

MN doesn't reflect real life where I am. Its on-line entertainment.

I believe Twitter mainly is responsible for the aggression and attacking tone on here. Other social media too, but mainly Twitter. I've really noticed over the years that people communicate differently on line now - short, sharp, attacking, lacking in nuance etc. I think Twitter has changed how we communicate and perceive each other, on a large scale. It's very worrying.

MLMbotsgoaway · 09/11/2020 14:36

@BonnieDundee I think I’m the same - too much time and feel genuinely annoyed by something someone, who I know bugger all about has posted on t’internet.

I’m a bit worried about the carpet thread though - it’s almost full - will we never see it again?

It has always been nuts. In the last few years I do feel the whole country is getting more and more polarized.

The lockdowns have pushed some over the edge, to the point where I think some posters have been hysterical. Telling us if we went to buy a magazine and chocolate bar we would be killing their grandma. Nasty posts about Chinese people (hint some of us aren't white British). The fireworks thread was crazy and very nasty.

The part that actually annoys is that if someone doesn't agree you it seems common place just to insinuate they are stupid and/or common. Oh and why does someone always have to ask the OP if they have been sniffing glue?

MLMbotsgoaway · 09/11/2020 14:50

I’m pretty sure I recall the word murder being mentioned on one thread about popping out to the shops.

@StrictlyAFemaleFemale

I dont think its as bad as it was just after the Brexit referendum.
The Brexit threads got so bad that most posters who voted leave no longer go on them.
PutYourHeadscarfOnNorma · 09/11/2020 16:10

@Kissthepastrychef

Although I remember many much more lighthearted stuff and no lighthearted in the titles or ridiculous "trigger warning" nonsense.
Oh yes.

We are the pre-Lighthearted Generation.

because when I say I'm going to kill Granny, I really don't mean it, not least as she has been dead since 2003

MLMbotsgoaway · 09/11/2020 17:21

@Andante57 at least if you wonder into a Brexit thread you sort of know what to expect. The last little while you could innocently start a thread on baking and be told you’re an utter cunt for using margarine rather than butter though that may be accurate

OP posts:
Andante57 · 09/11/2020 17:28

That’s true.

likethatbutcat · 09/11/2020 17:29

Yeah, sorry, that's definitely true @MLMbotsgoaway

I cunt believe it's not butter Grin

derxa · 09/11/2020 17:32

I've had someone stalking me on threads recently accusing me of being a 'Brexiteer' and wishing that I would lose my income. I usually laugh it off but ready to leave MN at the moment.

MLMbotsgoaway · 09/11/2020 17:33

I get the sense from a lot of replies that they’re trying their hardest to disagree with the OP, especially on subjects that are by nature controversial but that in this specific case the OP is obviously not BU

FelicityPike · 09/11/2020 17:47

Oh there absolutely have been some belters this weekend.

MLMbotsgoaway · 09/11/2020 22:38

Of well it appears that just usual levels of batshit have resumed now. And I’ve even seem a Parking thread so all is well with the world.

Dugee · 09/11/2020 22:55

Oh yes, gardening arguments with neighbours and benefit fraud already spotted. Can see things kicking off tonight 😂.

Reborn2020 · 09/11/2020 23:45

Why is it that suddenly anyone that wants a few fireworks with their children is killing rabbits, dogs are shaking in terror and generally deserve a prison sentence

Marnie76 · 09/11/2020 23:48

@Bwlch

I think it’s become full of a lot of people that just want an argument tbh.

No it hasn't.

🤣
GreenlandTheMovie · 10/11/2020 07:31

I'm just baffled by the one about the grown man in full employment asking fotlr free trousers on a local FB group. Seriously, £20 in Sainsbury. And all the piling in to demonstrate the wonders of second hand clothing non wastage. I do not know anyone who would not be too embarrassed to do this in real life. Its an alternative universe.

Sheknowsaboutme · 10/11/2020 07:35

You will always get those neurotic ones suggesting you call 999, social services or leave him.

Nothing new.

VinylDetective · 10/11/2020 07:51

The one about refusing to eat edible presents is hysterical. I think OP’s on the wind up.

Yes totally on the wind up
