Is is just me or has MN reached peak craziness

I probably need to back away from my screen - but is it just me or has this weekend seen the most ott responses to threads and everyday stuff ever?

I think perhaps lockdown is getting to people - but without mentioning specific threads I’ve seen the biggest over reactions ever on threads.

This isn’t a “MN” is going downhill thing, more Aibu to think that responses are suddenly absolutely mental.

@StrictlyAFemaleFemale hmm I don’t know - that was generally contained to threads that at least had some tangential link. This week people are getting an absolute bashing on literally everything. Or OPs coming out with something that would usually raise a are getting backed to the hilt.

While a lot of it is lighthearted - I can see one thread where the pitchforks are probably goading the OP into doing completely the wrong thing.

Poster 3: I accidentally clicked on this thread rather the one below asking if 'AIBU to sack my builder for daring to shit in my toilet'. However, generally people are just doing their best, even if they can't keep stringently to the guidelines.

Posters 1 and 2: ARGGGHH YOU'RE KILLING US ALL!!!

I haven't been on much this weekend.

I responded to some nasty comments a week ago in kind and received a warning........ there are regular posters that goad, are rude and then if you reply they appear to report..... I will avoid those posters since they are on so often they don't appear to have lives offline.....

The thread about a neighbour behaving in a really anti-social way over a prolonged period of time, and posters attacking the OP for using a certain colloquial, local slang word. It was awful to read. Do some people not realise that actions are more important than words when it comes to a neighbour behaving like that around young children?

@BrumBoo that genuinely made me laugh out loud.

Covid seems to bring out everyone's defensive side. So whatever the OP has deemed not essential/against guidelines/illegal (and a lot of the time they are right) then there's post after post of why people would be an exception to that, and why following the rules is ridiculous.

The other day there was a thread (which MNHQ shut down because it got so nasty) where the OP, who had a new baby, was sick of looking after her DP's dog. It was 15 years old, he had it when they met but now as she was on maternity leave and their dog Walker recently died, and hadn't been replaced. She had to walk it 3 times a day, feed it and meanwhile it stinks, shits and pisses on the floor (which the OP cleaned up, lovely for a new baby shuffling about ey) and barks all the time constantly waking the baby. She's was fed up to the point of wanting to leave.

The things that OP got called:
Misery guts
Fucking awful
Disgusting human
Heartless
Animal abuser
Bitch
Cunt

She was told "yeah you should get out THE DOG'S house", "I hope your DO leaves you" and "The dog was there first, you knew he had a dog!!" and posters proudly told her how their animals had viscously bitten their OHs several times but they'd never get rid of their fur baby, how could she be so heartless? I mean imagine your partner being so low in your eyes you allow them to be continually injured and do fuck all about it.

A number of us did defend her but the over reactions and nasty behaviour from people who no doubt think they're good people because they're "animal lovers" were nothing short of evil. It's been a long time since I've seen anything like.

I hope that OP is ok and I hope anyone who commented those nasty comments spends every day for the rest of their lives stepping on Lego.

I've been here since it was all fields, and it's pitchforks at dawn at the moment.

The thing is though - it’s not “contained” to covid threads. It’s not even contained to AIBU.

Some of it is batshittery that has made me smile - but some is pure spite

Very boring at the mo. I really need more hobbies.

I’ve noticed a lot of very OTT answers to threads or more commonly, lots of people answering the same and one poster is picked out and jumped on a bit.
Example - poster asks if should do something or leave it alone... then fifteen posters agree with each other that Op should leave whatever it is alone.
Then One posters says ‘isn’t it obvious you would leave it alone’ and that posters gets jumped on like they’re trying to incite war.
I feel like they’re everywhere at the minute 😂

It used to be weirder tbh, but in a funny way. There was two posters called iCOD and Getorfmoiland who cracked me up. Not much makes me laugh out loud on here.

Honestly at this rate I imagine that there will be a massive bust up in the 50 books thread - someone will call someone else a jumped up twat for critiquing a classic or something!

@WhySoSensitive yes or the tone for the whole thread is set by the first few posters I find. People just baa along with what the first responses are like sheep.

MN has always had some utterly batshit posters with extreme OTT replies.

But you're right OP, it's got far worse lately.

I think some of the OTT responses are just being trotted out by previously sensible posters who have just learned them now and are repeating them 👀
