One of the only good things to come from 2020!!

Oliversmumsarmy · 08/11/2020 18:13

Going to be affected - don’t know where the pig came from

YogiBearcub · 08/11/2020 18:17

Also delighted! One crazy haired blonde bimbo down, just one more to go.... 😜 But is everyone else also horrified he didn't lose within moments of the first states being declared? I cannot fathom how ~45% of the American people still think he is amazing!

RiverMeadow · 08/11/2020 18:20

@ddot

To be fair that's not really his fault though is it? It's ours.. the great British public who voted for Brexit. You can't really deny America the chance of getting rid of Trump because our not so great British public voted for Brexit??!! Confused

OP posts:
RiverMeadow · 08/11/2020 18:21

But I do agree, it will be interesting to see what happens with Brexit now.

I'm glad he's gone and now I'm waiting patiently to see how long it takes Melania to gain her freedom.
Why would she marry such an old man...... I'm asking this as an old woman who would only ever marry a much younger man!

Ihaveyourback · 08/11/2020 18:26

I wish it was over, but it is not - by a long shot. Unless he does something completely out of character. The entire election is going to be dragged through the courts, and if he can prove some states were rigged this could be a game changer.

No one is home and dry just yet. Sorry to burst your bubble, but I feel it is premature to say the least. I also worry that people WERE so desperate to get rid of him they would resort to anything, so lets hope the evidence is thin on the ground.

Ihaveyourback · 08/11/2020 18:31

I am not so worried about the brexit angle actually, mainly because a deal has almost been agreed with the EU, and secondly because the UK intend to join the transatlantic trade deal along with Australia, NZ etc - and Biden is very keen on the US joining too, so it will be much easier in some ways. Biden is also not petty and unlikely to ruin the relationship with the closest allies of the US.

Ddot · 08/11/2020 18:33

Rivermeadow what do you mean not do great public, I expect your one of those that think people who voted to leave are less than

Ddot · 08/11/2020 18:35

Why would Melania marry the billionaire mr trump 🤣

Jeeperscreepers69 · 08/11/2020 18:36

Melania is a lady

1forAll74 · 08/11/2020 18:39

I wonder if the Queen, and Trumps little friend in North Korea have sent their commiserations to the tweeting loser in the White House.!

As an American, this has baffled me. I think the answer lies partly in the fact that there is a vast schism and distrust between political parties in this country, and many people, Democrats and Republicans, will vote strictly along party lines. My dad, who I love very much despite his political views, is a lifelong Republican and will vote for a house plant if you put it on the Republican ticket – simply because it isn’t a Democrat. He despises anything left-leaning. There are a couple of people at my workplace who think like this.

Get enough of those voters, and add to that the swing voters who, after eight years of a Democrat as president, were looking for a change in 2016. People can be forgiven, I think, for voting for Trump in 2016 – a Republican was bound to win the election at that point.

But after all we’ve been through the last four years? To have the vote so close for days? Yes, frightening.

FelicisNox · 08/11/2020 18:43

Totally with you on this, I think it's the best thing for the US, not sure about the UK though.

Ireland are big fans of his so it will be interesting to see how that relationship will pan out.

Oliversmumsarmy · 08/11/2020 18:45

I think he did do a lot for the poorer end of society. I think a lot had to do with controlling immigration so the people who had lower paid jobs weren’t competing with so many people who had come to the US and could work for less money.

In some ways I think people don’t realise quite how bad mass immigration can be for this section of society.

Nanalisa60 · 08/11/2020 18:56

I’m no fan of the Donald, but the chances of getting a trade deal with the good old USA with the Irish loving new old geriatric who is now going to be in charge is very slim, so it’s going to make things harder for the UK. Also think that with all the Militias going around fully armed that they will be near to Sivil war by next February!! Remember 48 percent voted for the mad old Donald!!

funnylittlefloozie · 08/11/2020 18:56

@Jeeperscreepers69

Melania is a lady
If by "lady" you mean money-grabbing racist hag (which isn't a definition of the word ive heard before) then yes, yes she is. No sympathy for her at all. Hope she goes down with the whole vile Trump edifice.
LadyLindaT · 08/11/2020 19:03

I still think that the world is having a collective nervous breakdown.

Melania is a lady! have you met her?

PeachyLife · 08/11/2020 20:37

Donald tRump got the full 2020 experience :-) He caught Covid19, lost his job and getting evicted. Now I want to see him totally prosecuted for crimes committed. And for twitter to shut him up.

lollylimejuice · 08/11/2020 20:53

Can I just congratulate you all on a bunch of hysterically funny posts. I love mumsnet. As for Melania, I'm not a fan of women who marry for wealth or power. I saw a photo of her partying with Trump, Geoffrey Epstein and Ghislene Maxwell.
How long does it take you to work out what people are like. She could have moved on then, found herself a nicer billionaire.

RiverMeadow · 08/11/2020 21:12

@ddot

Something like that. The ones that voted to leave and then complain about the consequences.

@Metroland

Biden is pro Good Friday agreement which is excellent. I would never say he was anti-British because of this. He is anti-Brexit too, which is also for me, good.

Nevertheless, its generally accepted by previous UK governments, as well as BJ obvs, that even aside from Good Friday and Brexit, that he's no friend of the UK and never has been. Will be interesting to see how things unfold. BJ will def be on the back foot.

USA cousins, all Democrats, tell me they've all been very prepared to 'settle' for Biden and that they are all well aware he's far from ideal. It's about making way for the vice president.

Biden, was not particularly displaying statesmanship a while back in response to a BBC reporter asking for a 'word with the BBC, please sir". Biden's response "No, I'm Irish". Nice.

He didn't say, 'no, I'm Irish'. He just said 'I'm Irish'. And laughed. It was clearly light hearted!
Metroland · 08/11/2020 22:38

Thismustbelove you are right, I don't identify as Irish, I'm born and raised in England. Just because I don't identify as Irish, does not mean I'm ignorant of the facts. No 'perhaps', I'm very well aware of both the BBCs tawdry history and the British establishments underhand work. I have never said otherwise. A degree in political history serves me well, as well as having lived through events with very invested family. It was smart arsery, even if he he didnt say 'no' and just 'I'm Irish'. Think it was quite telling and still think he was a bit of a Wanker. Given Trump and dickhead Johnson, it's just a bit disappointing.

Thismustbelove · 08/11/2020 23:02

It was smart arsery

It really wasn't. He had finished with the press. It was said with a smile.

You are determined to think otherwise.

I'm puzzled as to why given your supposed dislike of Trump and Brexit and your supposed political history degree. But quite honestly, nobody is going to persuade you that Biden wasn't 'having a go' so go on stoking those flames....
