... that Donald Flump will no longer be POTUS??!!

One of the only good things to come from 2020!!

I wouldn’t be too excited personally. Behind the big smile, he is an establishment democrat- the very kind of politician that created the Trump movement in the first place and a war mongerer to boot. Trump got 35% of the Muslim vote - wonder why?

AlwaysLatte · 08/11/2020 00:04

I'm still in shock that even a single person watching his performance over the last 4 years thought that he's be great to have again. Well done Joe and Kamala. Time to undo some of the damage now.

Middle East peace deals and the first president to not start any new wars in 40 years. Funnily enough the share prices of weapons companies have shot up on this news.
Thismustbelove · 08/11/2020 00:07

I thought it was very telling to see the difference between the footage of people celebrating Biden's win (diverse and smiling) and that of Trump's usual bunch of demon-possessed MAGA supporters. (If you haven't looked up that footage of his "spiritual adviser" frothing at the mouth as she led Prayers for Trump earlier this week you might like to.)

It struck me that Biden's supporters were wearing masks and Trumps weren't. I suppose many of them believe the hype that the 'China virus' doesn't exist.

Biden's win such a good thing for Ireland. The relief is palpable.

Peridot2020 · 08/11/2020 02:01

@Thismustbelove Yes, to be fair, this has also struck me all along. I might have imagined some of the smiling, but not the otherwise happy body language. I loved the pic of Biden and Kamala taken at a suitable social distance from the other side of a car; they were definitely both smiling in that.

(Incidentally I think I recall reading earlier today that yet another one of Trump's staffers tested positive for the "Fayke noos virus" after their recent victory party.)

Ninetyseventhirtyfive · 08/11/2020 02:47

#plussizejumpsuit.. But Biden won? You may not agree with his policies or think he's not left enough but I cannot believe that someone like Bernie Sanders would have won the election. The Dems needed a credible choice, not someone divisive like Bernie. The US is just not ready for someone too far left. So I'm glad they chose Biden. I don't think they would have won otherwise, sadly. And Biden will be so much better than Trump, even if he's not very good! But I do worry about Pence in four years. Let's hope people have no desire to go backwards by then. .

Tavannach · 08/11/2020 02:48

Biden is anti-British, i understand .Might be worse for us than Trump.

Biden is pro the Good Friday Agreement if that's what you mean. Not anti-British necessarily, depends on your viewpoint.

mathanxiety · 08/11/2020 04:30

So 65% of the Muslim vote went to Biden...

...the very kind of politician that created the Trump movement in the first place...
You are wrong there.

The Trump movement was built on money from the Koch Brothers, Robert and Rebekah Mercer, and other right wing vulture capitalists.

It was fueled by the Murdoch media empire (which has turned on him now and is currently flexing its muscles and urging Trump to salvage his legacy by stepping down gracefully).

This was no organic, inevitable swing to the authoritarian right. The Lincoln Project founders make it clear that while ordinary GOP members may have voted for Trump for their own reasons, anyone with the ability to think and close enough to the action to see clearly what was happening could see that the Trump candidacy and presidency were carefully planned and engineered.

mathanxiety · 08/11/2020 04:31

Middle East peace deals and the first president to not start any new wars in 40 years

What are all those Syrians running from then?

mathanxiety · 08/11/2020 04:35

Yes, and hopefully the public lands in the west are no longer in danger of being sold off for logging and fracking, and the EPA can be restored to full strength and do its job.

Also looking forward to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau being restored so that ordinary Americans can be protected from being ripped off.

mathanxiety · 08/11/2020 04:40

And yet a transgender senator was voted on. Very progressive for America!

Not so fast, @Cherrysoup.
It was a T state senator in Delaware, not a US Senator.

Mintjulia · 08/11/2020 04:43

Thank heavens for that. Smile

anxiiousone · 08/11/2020 04:53

Be gone you Orange arse.

😂😂😂😂

WanderingFruitWonderer · 08/11/2020 05:17

Overwhelming relief is my main emotion. I was feeling terrified when it looked like he was doing well on election night. Terrified for the whole world, and what it could result in.
So when I finally heard the news (some time later as I was in the bath at the time!) I think I said 'PHEW!' aloud to myself!
I'm also very pleased that America will have a woman, and a woman of colour, as vice president. I got very emotional when I heard her speaking on the radio just now.
We just need Boris and his right-wing cronies here to be ousted too, and the world will be an even rosier place again...

Anyway, I think I may have cake for breakfast to celebrate the news! Cheers to one and all Cake WineCakeBrew

user764329056 · 08/11/2020 05:46

This year has been so crap, at least it ends on a high with Trump’s loss, if he’d won I think I would have lost the will to live

user764329056 · 08/11/2020 05:47

Wandering, have been on CNN all night and watched Kampala’s speech live, very emotional

user764329056 · 08/11/2020 05:47

Ahh, stupid autocorrect, Kamala, not Kampala

WanderingFruitWonderer · 08/11/2020 05:54

Ah user 764329056 thanks. I must watch her speech. I'm quite unusual, in that I don't have a television. So I've been listening on the radio mostly. But I must catch up on YouTube. It's probably there by now? You've inspired me to watch it! Thank you x

WanderingFruitWonderer · 08/11/2020 06:20

Just reporting back user764329056! I've just watched the whole of Kamela's speech on YouTube. Yes, deeply emotional. I'd just heard part of it before. What a beautiful soul she is. Her kindness & empathy shines through. I really do have hope again...
I probably wouldn't have got round to watching it all, if it wasn't for your comment. So, thank you Smile

WanderingFruitWonderer · 08/11/2020 06:32

Oops, sorry, Kamala not Kamela. In this case, it wasn't autocorrect. Just me being very underslept I think!

itsgettingweird · 08/11/2020 07:09

I don't necessarily see it as Biden winning.

It's more like Trump lost. And that's what the narcissistic orange turd cannot handle.

AlwaysCheddar · 08/11/2020 07:19

He’s an IRA sympathiser so not elated to have him. And he is anti Brexit.

Both dreadful people - trump and Biden.

Cam77 · 08/11/2020 08:05

Pro Good Friday Agreement means pro peace not anti-British.

Brexit will be extremely difficult no matter who’s in charge because throwing severe obstacles in the way of trade with half your partners, while forcing the other half your partners to renegotiate new deals with yourself, is idiotic.

mathanxiety · 08/11/2020 08:27

Half the world are IRA sympathisers. Time to get over that.
