... that Donald Flump will no longer be POTUS??!!

One of the only good things to come from 2020!!

AlwaysCheddar · 08/11/2020 08:41

Like saying almost half of USA voted for trump. Get over that.

cbt944 · 08/11/2020 08:42

Yep. Elated... relieved... and full of hope for the world.

101jobs · 08/11/2020 08:51

Biden does not even slightly elate me.
Hard Left Kamala elates me even less, Infact she terrifies me!

ssd · 08/11/2020 09:33

Why does she terrify you 101?

Oliversmumsarmy · 08/11/2020 09:43

Personally I think none of the above would have been the way to go.

I can see problems from whoever got in.

Purely for us in the UK whilst Biden seems the better candidate. As a country Trump would have been better going forward.
He was at least willing to trade with us.

Otoh can we and Canada expect an influx of American multi millionaires or just even a brain drain from the US when it becomes clear just how much Bidens policies are going to cost.

Rhine · 08/11/2020 09:44

It’s actually very ignorant to say someone is anti British just because they pro good Friday agreement, but I suppose that’s par the course for small minded Little Englanders like Farage etc.

Metroland · 08/11/2020 10:22

Biden is pro Good Friday agreement which is excellent. I would never say he was anti-British because of this. He is anti-Brexit too, which is also for me, good.

Nevertheless, its generally accepted by previous UK governments, as well as BJ obvs, that even aside from Good Friday and Brexit, that he's no friend of the UK and never has been. Will be interesting to see how things unfold. BJ will def be on the back foot.

USA cousins, all Democrats, tell me they've all been very prepared to 'settle' for Biden and that they are all well aware he's far from ideal. It's about making way for the vice president.

Biden, was not particularly displaying statesmanship a while back in response to a BBC reporter asking for a 'word with the BBC, please sir". Biden's response "No, I'm Irish". Nice.

CaveMum · 08/11/2020 10:24

@ssd I imagine like a lot of women, 101 is unhappy with the Biden/Harris ticket’s position on gender ideology. They have openly backed an amendment to the (US) Equality Act that will replace “sex” with “gender identity”. This means that any time where sex-based rights come up against “gender identity” (eg sports, prisons, hospital wards, changing rooms and toilets) then “gender identity” will win.

What’s wrong with that? He IS Irish. We were going to be screwed by Brexit. The Brexit side didn’t give a damn. BoJo and Trump were out for themselves, NOT the good of the world or their own countrymen.

Biden’s election is a very good thing. Not for Brexit voters admittedly but if they insist after all this time that they want to put the great back into Great Britain, then frankly nobody can help them.

More than Trump?
WanderingFruitWonderer · 08/11/2020 13:01

Paddingtonjuice I agree that Biden is an establishment democrat, and he's no leftie. I wanted Bernie Sanders to win, both this time and last. Which I think, for me, is why my emotions on hearing of Biden's victory were more relief (of Trump's defeat) than excitement (of Biden's victory in itself). It's damage limitation. I'm actually a very committed pacifist, and passionately anti-war. So my views would be at odds with almost all American politicians!

In terms of Trump & Biden, it probably was a case of the devil and the deep blue sea. But the deep blue sea is less bad overall. In Kamala Harris though, I have genuine hope. But I'll have to wait and see if I'm correct to do so...

Metroland · 08/11/2020 15:38

What’s wrong with that? He IS Irish.

Erm, yes, of course I know he's Irish (Irish heritage) Thatmustbelove. That wasn't the point. I didnt say anything suggesting he wasnt??

It was the refusing to talk to someone on the grounds of their nationality. And their nationality compared to his. Like I said, nice. I'm also of Irish heritage and I just thought he came across as a bit of a wanker.

CounsellorTroi · 08/11/2020 15:46

I've heard something that Putin is going to resign in the new year as he has Parkinsons. So that would be more good news. The Kremlin is denying it though!

OddHoleySocks · 08/11/2020 16:14

It was the refusing to talk to someone on the grounds of their nationality

Do you know its because of their nationality? Maybe it's because it's the BBC, which has been accused of bias when it comes to Ireland/Catholics (Biden is apparently Catholic).

The BBC was notoriously biased and partisan during the Troubles. The atrocities carried out by the State, the British Army and the RUC, not to mention collusion with loyalist paramilitaries, were barely covered. It was quite something to see from an Irish nationalist POV.

Yes, well and truly old enough to remember this. Although born and raised in England of Irish heritage, I remember the effect this had on both sets of grandparents and my parents. Not denying any of this.

However, many years on, Biden not rising above it, fair enough don't, if he doesn't want to, but I don't consider that to have been particularly good statemanship. Came across to me as a smart arse and like I said, a bit of a wanker.

Thismustbelove · 08/11/2020 17:22

He said it in jest. The reporter called him when he was walking into a room. He wasn’t going to stop and answer more questions either way.
I am unsurprised you said you have Irish heritage not that you identify as Irish which Biden clearly does. Perhaps that is why you find someone who hasn’t forgot the BBC’s history wankery.

OddHoleySocks · 08/11/2020 17:25

I don't consider that to have been particularly good statemanship

That is an entirely fair comment.

But I'm seeing lots of 'Biden is anti-British' rhetoric, when all I have seen is that he's pro-Irish. So I was interested to know if there was something more to the BBC story that I wasn't aware of.

Lynnikins · 08/11/2020 17:37

Any US citizens are celebrating. One of them shared this.

To be absolutely elated...
Lynnikins · 08/11/2020 17:38

Oops: "Many".

Peppermintpatty24 · 08/11/2020 17:46

Yup! Good riddance RUG HEAD 😂😂

Ddot · 08/11/2020 17:53

Not keen on trump but he did say he would help after Brexit so where do we stand now. Biden may not help and chances are he won't. So don't be so elated. At least trump did something for the working class, it's about time!

Fourfurrymonsters · 08/11/2020 18:03

Biden and his wife have a rescue dog. That kind of tells me everything I need to know.
I am so, SO pleased and relieved that enough of the US saw fit to kick the mangoed mess currently in the WH, up the crack of his arse and out the door.

Oliversmumsarmy · 08/11/2020 18:13

Biden’s election is a very good thing. Not for Brexit voters admittedly

But we are all leaving the EU so we are all pig to be affected.

As Ddot said, with Trump he did say he was going to help. So it is going to be interesting what is going to happen now
