Borrowed lyrics from Springsteen, imagine he was talking about America. What a moving win. Come in K Harris 2024!!!!

I was bruised and battered
I couldn't tell what I felt
I was unrecognizable to myself
Saw my reflection in a window
And didn't know my own face
Oh brother are you gonna leave me wastin' away
On the streets of Philadelphia?
I walked the avenue, 'til my legs felt like stone
I heard the voices of friends vanished and gone
At night I could hear the blood in my veins
Just as black and whispering as the rain
On the streets of Philadelphia
Ain't no angel gonna greet me
It's just you and I my friend
And my clothes don't fit me no more
A thousand miles just to slip this skin
The night has fallen, I'm lyin' awake
I can feel myself fading away
So receive me brother with your faithless kiss
Or will we leave each other alone like this
On the streets of Philadelphia?

I'd love to see Bruce Springsteen play "Sleepy Joe's cafe" at the inauguration

Higgeldypiggeldy35 · 07/11/2020 21:25

Did anyone see that Kanye West got 60,000 votes?? 60,000!!!! I mean America, WTF?!

Pyewhacket · 07/11/2020 21:28

Be careful what you wish for. Biden is no friend of this country. Quite the opposite.

SkyMoo1 · 07/11/2020 21:30

@exwhyzed

Nah By January he’ll be busy claiming insanity or some other excuse to get out of any pending prosecutions coming up now he’s no longer potus

That's what all of this is about. He's not going to go down the insanity route but once all legal avenues have been exhausted he will probably refuse to continue to be president until the end of his term on the basis that the system is corrupt and resign.

Step in Mike Pence for the remainder of the term, who will most likely then make a presidential proclamation pardoning Trump for any crimes he may have committed as president.

See Ford/Nixon for precedent

Interesting! I bet he'll pull this.

Happiest day in a long time. Humanity deserves this break Smile

SkyMoo1 · 07/11/2020 21:33

In fact, I'd say people are being kind - to themselves. We're celebrating after his four hope-crushing years. Reckon that's well earned.

SkyMoo1 · 07/11/2020 21:34

Sorry, that was a reply to @InTheMiddle23* #bekind

Rockhopper81 · 07/11/2020 21:36

I am no Biden fan - I really think he will be a 'caretaker' of the Presidency for the next 4 years before another Democratic leader can hopefully take up the post (at the very least, Biden will be 82 then) - but I am so relieved to get Trump out of office that I'm just going to leave Biden to one side for the weekend and rejoice that the nonsensical ramblings will be coming from an 'ordinary citizen' from the end of January next year, and not from someone with official power on a global scale.

OutOntheTilez · 07/11/2020 21:38

Points well taken, Plussizejumpsuit, and I do agree with you to an extent. For me, at least, a vote for Biden was not so much a vote for Biden as it was a vote against Trump.

I agree that Biden wasn’t the best choice and in a country of nearly 330 million people, you’d think we’d be able to come up with a better presidential candidate. But seeing what Trump has done to my country the last four years, making a mockery of his office and causing a rift among the populace that I don’t recall having seen before in my lifetime, ignoring medical experts when it came to Covid and sounding more and more unhinged, I thought it best to go with the lesser of the two evils.

It was time to get off the Crazy Train.

WinterIsGone · 07/11/2020 21:39

While it's great to see the back of Trump, he actually got more votes than last time.

Why? Because he’s pro EU and wants to protect the Good Friday Agreement? Nowt wrong with that. Breaking the agreement would be a criminal act and Boris and co can’t be allowed to get away with it.

Yes, that's a sad testament to deep division in the country. I really hope they can find a way to start to bridge it. I'm not sure how, though.
TooTrueToBeGood · 07/11/2020 21:52

Glad to see the back of the narcissistic fud but I don't think it's time to breathe easy just yet. He can do a hell of a lot of damage in his last couple of months in office and I expect he will.

He will be the leader of a foreign country. He'll do what leaders of other countries do, and put his own country's interests first. Nothing unusual in that.

From what I've seen he is an honourable man, and a statesman with decades of political experience, so that will make a pleasant change.

Birdsong111 · 07/11/2020 21:53

I’m really happy he’s going. I’ve been checking on CNN on and off for ages until the news was finally announced. I cannot understand how someone like Donald Trump became president in the first place. Why would anyone want to vote for him? I’m so happy for the American people. I bet Donald thought he was going to win lol!

Birdsong111 · 07/11/2020 21:54

Finally some good news

ssd · 07/11/2020 21:57

I agree op, thank god something good has happened at last.

As someone said on a thread earlier, some people may have voted for him because they didn't want a non-white female VP.
cali2000 · 07/11/2020 21:59

At least we’ll have some decency.

rc22 · 07/11/2020 22:01

Biden is not particularly against Britain. However, (unsurprisingly) he really dislikes Bojo which might not work out too well for us!! I'm still pleased he has won though.

NilesandDaphne · 07/11/2020 22:01

The whinge bags saying that Biden will do no good are secret trump supporters IMO. Trump is a dangerous man with the iq of a rice crispie. Maybe Biden wasn't the right choice, but he is by a country mile better than the alternative. It's like saying let's keep Boris instead of literally anyone Hmm

SleepingStandingUp · 07/11/2020 22:03

Wonder how long til Melania leaves...

catsareme14 · 07/11/2020 22:08

Donald , you're fired

tinkywinkyshandbag · 07/11/2020 22:11

Can't abide Trump (although DH loves him...) but I cant see much that's great about Biden, other than that he's not Trump. I am glad he's in, but I don't think he'll be around for long. I think Kamala Harris will then be in, and she's very hard left it seems. So I have mixed feelings to be honest.

Cam77 · 07/11/2020 22:15

A fair few people saying Biden is “average” etc. I disagree. I think he’s really solid. Yes, he’s old, yes he’s got a bit of stutter. No, he isn’t “showbiz” like a Trump/Obama. But from what I’ve heard about him he seems a v.decent, thoughtful and humble man, who’s been through a lot in his personal life. Politics basically the same as Obama, and obviously they got on brilliantly 2008-16. Perhaps not our best friend on Brexit thanks to his Irish roots, but that’s a mess of our own making.
