Making myself ill

Please can someone help?
I’ve worked myself up into a frenzy these last couple of weeks, worrying about the future and the great reset etc and what’s actually going on. I’m so worried for my daughters future and can’t stop thinking/worrying about it all 😢

I find watching Netflix helps enormously. Only cheezy Christmas/Halloween movies though.

I'm not on social media either, apart from MN obviously!

Whattheactual2020 · 07/11/2020 14:10

@Nancydrawn Thank you for the kind words

Is the swab not just a bit of cotton wool/gauze on a stick?!!

Whattheactual2020 · 07/11/2020 14:12

@MaskingForIt Won’t let me link

Can we please not confuse what I was asking with the ridiculous swab thing (sorry to the poster) my thoughts were a separate thing.

There’s a surprise. Stop spreading nonsense if you can’t substantiate is.

Here
Did you read it
Whattheactual2020 · 07/11/2020 14:17

@Hayeahnobut Yes I know he’s an Mp, which further fuels the worry! (To me at least 🤷🏻‍♀️)
His two most recent speeches struck a chord with me, I wish I could upload here. Nothing seemed ‘Conspiracy theory’ about them at all, I really think he has valid points about many things and others are seeing it too. The government seem to be ushering new laws in, Boris refuses to listen to other members or consult with others/hear other points of view, since when is this normal? It just doesn’t feel right to me.

Lifeisabeach09 · 07/11/2020 14:17

Saw the fourth industrial revolution govt website post. It's about innovation in future tech UK-wide, not a negative conspiracy theory.

Whattheactual2020 · 07/11/2020 14:19

@MaskingForIt I just uploaded a screenshot, I’m not trying to spread shit, I’m going to leave it as I’m not getting anywhere and need to make sense of it myself. Some posters replying that I’m chatting shit and so on isn’t helping me, admittedly this worry I’d making me fragile at the moment.
I just wanted to try to make sense of it all

OP posts:
SchrodingersImmigrant · 07/11/2020 14:21

If you are trying to make a sense of it, you have yo read things properly. I don't think you read what you posted from the gov website tbh...

As pps said. Contact your gp about your anxiety. And start reading stuff properly

Flowerblue · 07/11/2020 14:22

I can understand why you are worried and anxious. But no one knows what’s going to happen next. From a practical point of view, looking after your mental and physical health would seem to be sensible, having some savings and a small stash of supplies might be a practical action. Other than that, the future is unknown. I find the website ‘Positive News’ a good choice!

Whattheactual2020 · 07/11/2020 14:26

@SchrodingersImmigrant I’ve read it. In itself, no problem, coupled with the Great reset talk creeping in, the talk from many people now (normal people as in not out there conspiracy theorists) the complete confusion around everything...nothing makes sense, to me at least.

OP posts:
Whattheactual2020 · 07/11/2020 14:29

@Flowerblue See when you say to have some savings and a small stash, that makes me anxious, as in, what will happen.
I’m aware I’m not as emotionally robust as some others at times, but this has all been a real concern for me and I wish it wasn’t! I wish I could think all will be ok, I’ve never felt like this about the world before, I feel quite dark about it all, very confused and like I have no trust in anything happening right now.

OP posts:
sleepymumm · 07/11/2020 14:32

Great reset isn't a conspiracy theory, it is actually openly available.

rc22 · 07/11/2020 14:34

People have lived through all the previous industrial revolutions. I find change unnerving and probably don't have the skills for a "post-fourth industrial revolution" economy but who's to say it won't be full of exciting opportunities for younger people like your DD?

I worry about the future sometimes but, without meaning to sound all psychobabbly, I try to ground myself in the present. Take pleasure in the smaller things and take one day at the time.

Making yourself ill with worry really won't change the future one little bit. It'll only ruin the present for you. Like others have said please see your doctor and try to look after yourself.

DryRoastPeanut · 07/11/2020 14:37

Channel four are screening Christmas movies all afternoon. Snuggle down and relax, forget COVID and lockdown. Even if just for a few hours.

Whattheactual2020 · 07/11/2020 14:39

@sleepymumm See that’s where my confusion lies, what is being proposed is actually going ahead 🤷🏻‍♀️

OP posts:
Whattheactual2020 · 07/11/2020 14:40

@rc22 Thank you, do you really think I need to see a doctor though to be worried about these things?

OP posts:
Feedingthebirds1 · 07/11/2020 14:46

The great reset in itself sounds ok, but I suppose it’s all the other talk surrounding it all, had it been just the usual crap on YouTube etc, it wouldn’t be an issue, but many people are now starting to question things

And who are these 'many people'? Are they experts, and if so what in? What evidence do they have to support their allegations? What are their politics - moderate left/right, or extremists? What else do they believe? The trouble with the internet and social media is that any crank can dream up and idea and put it out there, and there are enough other cranks who'll believe it and spread it further, without asking the questions I've asked, because it matches their general attitude. Google confirmation bias.

The Great Reset and 4th Industrial Revolution seem to me to be different things however much some people on the web are conflating them, because in their world 2+2=623,941,874 and always will. I've read both of the articles linked and they seem to me to be excellent in their foresight. We do have to rethink on our approach to climate change etc, and then we have to DO something, not just think and talk about it. And thanks to electronic communication the world IS changing, both in personal lives and in business and we should be addressing how that is going to work and what the impact is going to be for everyone.

I'm going the other way to you OP. Having read them I actually feel a glimmer of hope that maybe we can grab all this by the scruff of the neck and make change happen, rather than hanging on wistfully to 'the old days' and the old world order.

Feedingthebirds1 · 07/11/2020 14:49

PS ^ I've read both of the articles linked

On the Great Reset I read the Davos paper - not the conspiracy theory one.

Whattheactual2020 · 07/11/2020 15:04

By people, I mean just general people in the public eye (not conspiracy theorists, well I wouldn’t have thought so!) it’s just in the last few weeks mainly. Questioning the absurdity of a lockdown given the figures etc-versus damage to economy, some believing they want to crash the economy, just a lot of confusion and trying to work out what the hell is going on really.
Specific examples are presenters on Talk-radio and people they interview, the mp who made the speech as I stated, even Richard madely 🤷🏻‍♀️

OP posts:
Heyahun · 07/11/2020 15:07

Think about it logically though - why would the government want to damage the economy further? Extend furlough, pay everyone to stay home! Stop people spending money?

It makes zero sense to wreck the economy all for some sort of control and stopping freedom of movement?

Right

rc22 · 07/11/2020 15:08

If you're making yourself ill and feel completely preoccupied with dark thoughts about the future then contacting the doctor would be a good idea. Take care.
