Making myself ill

Please can someone help?
I’ve worked myself up into a frenzy these last couple of weeks, worrying about the future and the great reset etc and what’s actually going on. I’m so worried for my daughters future and can’t stop thinking/worrying about it all 😢

@GoldenOmber In his speech (well, two short ones I saw) he spoke about how he felt something much darker was behind all this etc. That’s coming from (I assume!) a sensible Mp, who isn’t getting his voice heard, not a wacko conspiracy theorist. It’s all quite confusing.
I need to delete Fb, not watch the news (I rarely actually do watch the news) and stop giving in to/furthering my anxiety. And to stop thinking about it all. My mind’s just gone to a terrible place with it all after reading lots etc..I was honestly crying the other day at the thought of some of the things being said, which I won’t say as I’ll be told I’m doing it deliberately, I’d hate anyone to be as anxious as I feel, it’s the last thing I want, I just want my old life and some peace

I am sorry to say I think you could be right, but not in the scary way you think perhaps.

We are heading towards a life of automation, robots doing many jobs we now do, AI and all the rest. This IS going to happen. We may see big breakthroughs in science that makes it possible to beat cancer and to stop other diseases that were previously unsurmountable. The digitalisation of our world IS worrying, and it is happening so fast we can hardly keep up. Globalisation and loss of culture etc does bother me too.

All I would say is that you have to imagine that for every negative, there will be many positives too. There always is. The great reset might save the planet, stop people dying from famine, universal payments may stop poverty and lead to a more peaceful equal society.

Honestly I would go out for a walk, listen to the birds, look at the sky - it will all still be here this time next year, and a one hundred years from now. Your dd will find her way, just like we all did, some of us against the odds. Life is beautiful, it is a miracle in so many ways. Vow to stop watching you tube and worrying, start living op. Hug your dd, put on some music. Make the most of your life now Flowers

OP, re the cashless society, I am temporarily living in a country which, to all intents and purposes, is a cashless society. I’ve not taken cash out the bank for over two years. There are no issues if everywhere is set up to take cards.
@Elbels Yes I definitely need to get off sm, I’ve been staying up reading this most nights the last couple of weeks. It’s like I’m aware it’s not helping my mood but I can’t stop it 😢
Redo your sm. Mine are relaxing place. I follow very few people (and let even less follow me), no news, no influencers, but I follow nice things.
Unfollow everything what makes you feel bad.
Does it put a smile on your face? No? Unfollow.
Now put on stuff which makes you smile.
National trust (beautiful pics!)
Museums and galeries (absolutely smashing, interesting and many do a lot online during lockdowns)
Nature photographers
Police animal units (bloody adorable)
Artists and illustrators
Local businesses
Local "whats on" and "visit x" pages (lots of tips on what to do)
Shut down ALL notifications so you decide when to go and look. Bar ads, you are in charge and I found SM absolutely invaluable for me.

Whattheactual2020 · 07/11/2020 15:42

Okay @BrumBoo

Also use apps like Stay Focused to lock apps for certain time. Helps a lot

Whattheactual2020 · 07/11/2020 15:45

@Ihaveyourback That’s what I’m scared of, I like life now (well pre March) I don’t want all these weird changes with AI etc, I don’t see why that’s all coming at once? At this moment, all these plans and changes? I’m fact, I want to go back in time to a better time.

OP posts:
Whattheactual2020 · 07/11/2020 15:47

@SchrodingersImmigrant Thank you 🙏 I need to stop feeding my mind with all this, it’s just a really shit year isn’t it? Hard for my head to understand/cope with it all. I’m not resilient enough I guess, as I see some others are so laid back about everything, I honestly can’t see anything positive in the future, life was great before.

OP posts:
Whattheactual2020 · 07/11/2020 15:48

@AgentProvocateur I don’t know, it scares me not to have access to cash, it’s becoming reliant on something else completely.

Okay, and I think you (and the people you're listening to) are translating that as 'mysterious forces behind the scenes' or 'secret plans' or 'there are other reasons for lockdown and the government is using the virus as an excuse'. I heard it more as 'he thinks the government is being too authoritarian and needs to have a good long look at itself in a mirror'.

I don't know what he actually meant, but whatever it was, I would say it should bring you some comfort at least that he was able to say it in the House of Commons, to the Prime Minister's face, it's recorded permanently in Hansard, etc - this is not someone who's being silenced. And maybe he does think there's some conspiracy theory operating - a lot of people do. But a lot of people thinking something doesn't mean it's true. It might also mean that these are weird scary worrying times, and for a lot of people conspiracy theories are more comforting.

But all these tech changes have been happening all our lives - how different are our lives now to the way they were in the 80s? If it feels like all this new stuff's being pushed forward at once, maybe that's because you're listening to lots of people talking about it, so it's more immediate in your mind?

Oh for gods sake just stop reading the news

AcornAutumn · 07/11/2020 15:53

@Whattheactual2020

The great reset/fourth industrial revolution is no conspiracy theory though 🤷🏻‍♀️
It was the cover of TIME magazine, I though that might stop people calling it a CT. plus I tried reading the KS book when it came out years ago but thought it was bonkers - more fool me.

All I can say is, many people are in favour. Perhaps your DC will just be okay with it.

I hadn’t heard of, nor do I believe in, a brain reset.

I was terribly upset about all this six months ago. Now I just think whatever happens, I have to try and see my own advantages. It’s not the life I wanted for me or my goddaughter though. But her parents are fine with it. They are the sort who organise their whole life through Alexa!

Ihaveyourback · 07/11/2020 15:54

Would you really hate AI if it meant you never had to clean your house again, your washing was magically done, you had a perfect lawn every day? Are you really going to hate something that might ultimately save your life one day - from Cancer?

There will always be pockets of the world that will stay the same, and have done for centuries and others that embrace the changes, you can choose to live a simple life if you want to. You don't need to adopt everything that turns up in the future. You can just pick and choose. It will not be forced on you.

You sound like you are feeling powerless, are you stuck where you are? In a lockdown perhaps? You do have control over your life op.

Generalconfusion · 07/11/2020 15:54

OP, I'm sorry you're feeling so bad.

You need to stop reading this stuff. The internet is a neverending rabbit hole of dark shit and very little of it is true.

With all due respect, the biggest threat to your daughter right now is YOU. Your mental health being so bad is going to affect her.

Go outside and take more walks with her. Look at the beautiful world. Enjoy your opportunities. Stop letting strangers on the internet control your mood. You owe it to your daughter to stop this nonsense right now.

TheFirstCutIsTheDeepest · 07/11/2020 15:56

Op I know how you feel. I suffer from anxiety and if I read some conspiracy stuff on social media I can get sucked into it and my anxiety takes over. As others have said, don't read into it and try no to listen to the news

Haffiana · 07/11/2020 15:57

OP, honestly you need to speak to your GP.

It doesn't matter what your intrusive thoughts are, it is the fact that you are having them that is the problem. Please don't be sidetracked by people who feel compelled to discuss why your thoughts are wrong or right. The problem is that you are compelled to think about these things and that you are anxious and scared as a result. This isn't normal.

Speak to your doctor. It is fixable.

Whattheactual2020 · 07/11/2020 15:59

@Generalconfusion I do all that with my daughter, I’m strong enough and careful enough to shield all my thoughts from her. It’s when she’s in bed and I think about it or see the posts etc, I used to be able to switch off but am finding it harder lately,

OP posts:
Whattheactual2020 · 07/11/2020 16:00

@Ihaveyourback I’m fine with some changes, I realise life moves along, but it seems to be this sudden drastic change, all during the change of Covid and it’s true some of the things written in the books etc are truly bizarre, I’m ok if it’s no forced on me.

OP posts:
Whattheactual2020 · 07/11/2020 16:04

@PatriciaPerch @Generalconfusion @TheFirstCutIsTheDeepest Thank you 🙏

Whattheactual2020 · 07/11/2020 16:06

I honestly have no idea what’s wrong with me that I’m being so susceptible to this stuff.
@Whattheactual2020 I’m worrying too.
Someone posted yesterday some similar great reset but to read, it made physical sick.
It said something about that the testing damages our blood brain barrier inside our nose and we will all get ill from this and this will reset our memory to forget how lovely life was pre COVID.
It made sick just to reading it.
I deleted it immediately after but the bad taste stayed.
As someone who spent the best part of my working life in the lab testing field, can I reassure you that covid testing will not damage the blood brain barrier or your nose.

breakingthebank · 07/11/2020 16:21

@Whattheactual2020

By people, I mean just general people in the public eye (not conspiracy theorists, well I wouldn’t have thought so!) it’s just in the last few weeks mainly. Questioning the absurdity of a lockdown given the figures etc-versus damage to economy, some believing they want to crash the economy, just a lot of confusion and trying to work out what the hell is going on really. Specific examples are presenters on Talk-radio and people they interview, the mp who made the speech as I stated, even Richard madely 🤷🏻‍♀️
I wouldn't listen to Richard Madeley. In the run up to the Year 2000 he was stockpiling tins in his cellar because he believed there was going to be a big disaster!
MsPeachh · 07/11/2020 16:21

Damages the blood-brain barrier?

I read a lot of these Facebook conspiracies and think something has gone terribly wrong in the teaching of biology, science and critical reading in this country. Now there’s a conspiracy for you. Education cuts making the population less able to think for themselves. More fearful and easily led up the garden path as a result...
