Costa. I find Starbucks coffee a bit weak and insipid. DH would say Caffè Nero over both, but I like Costa.

CounsellorTroi · 05/11/2020 11:54

Costa. I find Starbucks undrinkable.

pointlesss · 05/11/2020 11:55

I think costa is better for food too, nearly £6 for a toastie from Starbucks.

Neither. Rubbish quality and so expensive.

ZoeTurtle · 05/11/2020 11:59

Neither, though Starbucks coffee is probably worse than Costa.

cosmopolitanplease · 05/11/2020 11:59

Really? I find Costa festive drinks simultaneously bland and sickly, and lukewarm even when I ask for extra hot. Also I find those tall glasses they serve them in really uncomfortable and awkward to hold.
I love a Starbucks pumpkin spice topped with cream though but sadly we only have crappy Costa nearby 😔

Holdingtherope · 05/11/2020 12:00

Independent all the way here

grapewine · 05/11/2020 12:04

I don't like Costa hot chocolate. Nero is better than both of them. But actually I seem to go to Pret more than anything when I'm in London. Live outside of the UK. I wish we had Pret...

Octopuscrazy · 05/11/2020 12:05

Costa definitely over starbucks. But Nero is my favourite out of the big chains.
Independents are usually much better though

SomeSmotheringDreams · 05/11/2020 12:06

Neither. Both are awful quality.

Yesyoudoknowme · 05/11/2020 12:07

Costa every time. Starbucks coffee tastes burnt to me - yet bizarrely when we were in the US Starbucks coffee was fine Confused And their morning offer of toast for £1 with a coffee is great - their brown toast is lovely...

cosmopolitanplease · 05/11/2020 12:07

I do like a Nero chai latte, but sadly our local branch only has two tables with comfy chairs (which are always taken as they're in the window) and the rest are hard uncomfortable ones. Really puts me off!

Indecentobsession · 05/11/2020 12:08

Costa by far. Starbucks' coffee too bitter and I always feel uncomfortable in their shops

ShowingOut · 05/11/2020 12:08

Costa. Hate Starbucks coffee.

Lockdownhairdontcare · 05/11/2020 12:09

Neither. Costa at a push but would rather not.

stillsomewhatsheldonesque · 05/11/2020 12:10

Independents all the way for me.

Far better.

TheKeatingFive · 05/11/2020 12:10

Nero. Though we’re coming down with fab independents in my area, so no need to darken the door of any of them.

Starbucks are always good for charging points though, so that’s something in their favour.

Gobbycop · 05/11/2020 12:14

Costa.

Starbucks over roast their coffee then serve it too hot, it's revolting.

Hotpinkangel19 · 05/11/2020 12:14

Definitely Costa.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 05/11/2020 12:22

I think Starbucks coffee tastes burnt too. I usually go for Costa because they don't charge extra for alternative 'milk'.

Anoisagusaris · 05/11/2020 12:24

Neither, as a point of principle.

AgentProvocateur · 05/11/2020 12:24

Neither. Pret or Nero are my chains of choice.

noseresearch · 05/11/2020 12:32

... honestly Starbucks over Costa for me😬
Mainly because I like their app (feel too wanky asking for specific requests face to face) and very efficient pick up service. I can be in/out in a minute. Although don't regularly go to either, plus don’t like sitting in as they’re never as clean as other coffee shops

Costa near me is always so full, and plenty of young families with prams (nothing wrong with that but just makes it more awkward to walk in/out as quickly).

I prefer Pret / Cafe Nero out of the chains though, and it’s always lovely to try an independent

pointlesss · 05/11/2020 12:40

Weirdly I've never been to Nero or pret.
I might have to give them a go.
Unfortunately in my town 2 lovely independent cafes closed down and they were gorgeous.

Costa.
