Starbucks over Costa, Nero best of the chains for me. I’m also a blonde roast, eggnog drinker, snap amusedbush Grin

Not surprised at the replies but really surprised that anyone is surprised at the amount of sugar that goes in more than half a litre of really sweet beverages.

GarlicMonkey · 05/11/2020 13:49

Starbucks. They give 10% blue light discount plus free extra shots & syrups on their rewards scheme.

tywysoges · 05/11/2020 13:50

Oh but I had The Purple One latte from Costa yesterday and I really enjoyed it.

SockQueen · 05/11/2020 13:51

Just had a pumpkin spice latte from M&S cafe and it was really nice! I generally prefer Costa to Starbucks. Try to support independent cafes where I can but my town is chain store central. Sad

Bluesheep8 · 05/11/2020 13:56

Independent all the way here

And here. Never been to either Starbucks or Costa

GuyFawkesHadTheRightIdea · 05/11/2020 13:56

Costa is vile. Starbucks for me.

Fivebyfive2 · 05/11/2020 14:00

I love the Cafe Nero hot chocolates, but we don't have one near me so this year I'll miss out. No Starbucks either, but I'm not fussed about that. I tried the after eight hot chocolate from Costa the other day, it was tasty but not very hot and I had their chocolate hazlenut cake which was fab 🙂

I have to say though, the last couple of years I've had the mint hot chocolate from Greggs and it's really nice!

AngeloMysterioso · 05/11/2020 14:05

Independent where available, otherwise Starbucks for eggnog lattes (not whilst they’re supporting Mermaids though), Costa for everything else.

Good choice Grin

I legit cannot believe so many people are voting for Costa. Everything about the stores is sad. The decor is faded, the coffee is crap, there is a generally dirty air to it (ie the latte glasses always cloudy). It’s just got such a sad air to it.

So bizarre that people go there and seem to enjoy it. On my high street there is a Costa with an independent a few doors down. The Costa is always packed and the independent often half empty.

So bizarre. I really don’t get it.

unicornpower · 05/11/2020 14:11

Costa is awful! Their coffee is so bitter i find it undrinkable. Starbucks would win for me out of the two

movingonup20 · 05/11/2020 14:13

I have a thing for Starbucks gingerbread latte and their gingerbread loaf but the only branch around here is at the services (open for eat in I believe if I read the regulations correctly so I joked with dp we will need eat out there this weekend!)

notreallybotheredaboutausernam · 05/11/2020 14:13

People need to stop filling the coffers of places that don't pay their tax! These companies are stealing from you. Boycott Starbucks, boycott Caffe Nero, boycott Boots.

DelilahfromDevon · 05/11/2020 14:14

Starbucks every time.

movingonup20 · 05/11/2020 14:14

Ps USA Starbucks tastes far better, I think they use less coffee in the U.K.

purplecorkheart · 05/11/2020 14:19

Rarely go to either as it is all Independent coffee shops in my home town but if I had to pick I prefer Costa.

TheDowagerDuchessofMwwwahaha · 05/11/2020 14:21

Tea drinker here so it doesn’t make much odds!

I used to like a Nero best when I drank coffee. Didn’t like Starbucks at all, or Pret, but Costa ok.

SusannaSpider · 05/11/2020 14:22

Costa, our Costas are really lovely franchises, clean and recently refurbished. I don't go for the fancy drinks, just Americano, Tea or iced coffee, Starbucks tea is rank and their coconut milk curdles, although they have more veggie savoury options.
We do have an nice independent that I use sometimes, but they are inconsistent, I like to know the cake or whatever I want, will always be the same. The independant is always tweeking and I don't like to find sultanas suddenly added to my favourite cake. Not that I'm fussy or anything!

TheDowagerDuchessofMwwwahaha · 05/11/2020 14:22

I did used to drink gingerbread latte from Starbucks, that’s true.

Sceptre86 · 05/11/2020 14:23

Costa is better than Starbucks but Nero is my favourite for hot chocolate. For coffee, my bil roasts his own and it is on another level.

jambeforeclottedcream · 05/11/2020 14:26

Costa
Much closer to where I live
Stronger coffee Starbucks is coffee flavoured milk

I find all of the festive coffees far to sweet for me. But I do like Costas warm spiced apple juice

Nottherealslimshady · 05/11/2020 14:29

Either. I find the quality of the drinks depends more on the person making it. I don't drink the coffee though, just the chai lattes.

pointlesss · 05/11/2020 14:29

Costas new Santa muffin is delightful tho or the choc orange muffin

@CounsellorTroi

Costa. I find Starbucks undrinkable.
I find the opposite - for me Costa christmas drinks are way too sweet, and I can only manage a mouthful or two! :)
SinisterBumFacedCat · 05/11/2020 14:34

I find all the Xmas specials give my stomach ache, as does overly milky stuff so the order is

  1. Coffee caravan up the road
  2. Nero
  3. Costa
  4. Farrow & Ball WinkGrin
...10. or thereabouts is Starbucks
