Costa! I had the pigs under blankets panini for lunch yesterday! I also had an Irish velvet latte, I was gutted, I’d ordered in a rush on the app and thought I’d ordered the hot chocolate!! Confused

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 06/11/2020 07:24

Costa.

MoonBaby1 · 06/11/2020 07:38

I’m a bit of a weakling with coffee so M&S or Mc Donald’s are my cup of tea. (Is actually prefer a cup of tea Grin).

The festive McD lattes are lush

Vellichor · 06/11/2020 07:42

I don’t like the festive drinks or really any flavoured coffees but I prefer Costa to Starbucks generally. I don’t like the taste of Starbucks coffee. I find Costa coffee nice but a bit weak and often ask for an extra shot if I go there. But I have found many other places that do nicer coffee than either Starbucks or Costa so I don’t tend to use either very often. I sometimes get a Costa coffee from a machine at a garage when that’s my only option.

DianaT1969 · 06/11/2020 08:44

Neither. Starbucks is the worse. Tasteless lattes, they use sweetened soya milk (like we all want sugar in our coffee, right?). The mugs used to be dirty. Dirty seating areas. I like the coffee and staff in Cafe Nero more than other chains, but their seating areas, skirtings, floors used to be grubby too.

Baaaahhhhh · 06/11/2020 08:45

Cafe Nero - Starbucks is revolting, costa is OK if you are very specific about what you want, Care Nero seems to fit my likes better.

Queuing4Fergs · 06/11/2020 08:57

I have a preferred Costa in my town and have grown to like their coffee. The other costas aren't as nice and do often seem dirty.

But from November onwards it's all about the Starbucks eggnog latte. They used to do an epic gingerbread muffin too which was just about the best thing I ever put on my mouth. I miss those

heathergem · 06/11/2020 08:58

Neither - wishy washy coffee at both.

Local independent much better.

InFlagranteDerelicto · 06/11/2020 09:02

Starbucks - insipid brownish water.
Costa - better, but still not great.
Caffe Nero - better again.
I prefer my local independent coffee shops. We have 2 great coffee shops locally, one good for their fab drinks, & the other is more of a cake cafe that also sells drinks. Both excellent, & always packed. In summer when the tourists come there are often queues for the cake shop.

TigerBrite · 06/11/2020 09:06

I like Starbucks. It makes me feel American and I can pretend I’m in New York or something. Costa is British so I don’t find it as fun.

Coasterfan · 06/11/2020 10:27

I prefer Starbucks and I love that the self serve machines at the motorway services have mainly changed to Starbucks from costa. Costa from the counter is ok but it’s horrible from those machines. I haven’t seen the Christmas menus, I loved the honeycomb one costa did a couple of years ago though!

Xiaoxiong · 06/11/2020 10:54

Shirley we also have a Costa and an independent on our high street. The independent is lovely but 25% more expensive, uncomfortable seating and takes FOREVER to make their drinks. Literally the baristas seem to move in slow motion sometimes. I do go there to support them but they often run out of food so I can't always rely on being able to have lunch there, and I also can't rely on being able to pick up a quick coffee on the way to the train.

The baristas in our Costa (it's a franchise so there are three in the area with the same management) are supremely ultra speedy efficient and lovely, most of them have worked there for the whole time I've lived here so that makes it >10 years, they know all their regulars and their orders and know everyone's names. Whereas the Costa near my office is dire - dirty, rude staff, terrible coffee. I think it really depends on the franchisee with Costa.

frazzledbasket · 06/11/2020 11:18

If I had to choose its Starbucks 100% for me.

I always have milk in my coffee be it a latte/cappuccino/flat white and I have never had a coffee at costa that actually tasted of coffee...just milk.

I find Costa seasonal drinks like sweetened milk and water.

I only really go to Starbucks if I'm with someone else who wants to go there or I fancy a seasonal drink or one with syrup.

ZoeTurtle · 06/11/2020 12:52

I take back my earlier message.

I ended up with an After Eight Mint Hot Chocolate from Costa earlier and it was bloody lovely. Not as sickly as it sounds.

itsovernowthen · 06/11/2020 12:52

Costa, every single time.

InFiveMins · 06/11/2020 13:18

Both are awful, overpriced and particularly bad quality.

sophiasnail · 06/11/2020 17:14

I am very, very partial to a Starbucks pumpkin spiced latte, with an extra shot of espresso, but we found ourselves in costa today and I asked if they could turn their new cinnamon cappuccino into a cinnamon latte, which they could😄 and it was delicious!

sophiasnail · 06/11/2020 17:15

We usually go to Starbucks because it is dog friendly!

LocalHobo · 06/11/2020 17:23

Nero (and they pay their taxes I think)
Then Costa....
Both of those let my dog in.
I agree Starbucks products all taste better in the U.S.
Tim Hortons does not agree with me at all, and unless independents give the calorie count on their food I give them a miss even if the coffee is superior.

SusannaSpider · 07/11/2020 09:06

and unless independents give the calorie count on their food I give them a miss even if the coffee is superior.

Yes, this influences my decision too.
