To think that huge civil unrest is on it's way for the USA?

Well, just that really?

I can feel it, Trump isn't going to go quietly. This is such a worry.

OP posts:
Stripesnomore · 04/11/2020 21:46

There was always going to be the same risk, regardless of the outcome.

Wildswim · 04/11/2020 21:47

Yes it's a massive worry. America is just so divided. It's a pressure cooker.

StoneofDestiny · 04/11/2020 21:49

Trump has been provoking that for years - he wants gun mad nut jobs rioting.

AcornAutumn · 04/11/2020 21:51

I’m really worried about this

On another thread they said Gore conceded to Bush to avoid disruption?

I can already see the oddities — more votes in Wisconsin than voters? But I just wish it could be handled in a calm civilised fashion.

TicTacTwo · 04/11/2020 21:54

It's very worrying- especially as civilians can own and buy guns there.

Nikori · 04/11/2020 21:55

Wisconsin absolutely did not have more votes than registered voters, it’s been fact checked. I actuallythink the long drawn out process will cool heads. There will be some unrest but I don’t think it will be large scale.

Wildswim · 04/11/2020 21:55

I blame the Democrats too. The Democrats' identity politics and disdainful attitude towards poor white Americans has created resentment and distrust. The demonizing of anyone who doesn't agree with you/ didnt vote for the 'right side'. The shrill, puritan atmosphere and binary thinking of social media where you're either good or evil, the shutdown of civil debate and compromise that is cancel culture. We think it's bad here, it's way worse in the States.

There were not more votes in Wisconsin than voters. Try reading the news and not social media. These reports are fake news. This claim is impossible — residents who are not registered to vote cannot cast a ballot. Wisconsin is one of the states that allow same-day voter registration. That means the correct comparison is eligible voters, not registered ones.

Another view is looking at the map of the US and seeing a swathe of red in the middle.

Biden is going for full lockdown. Can anyone think that is going to end well.

middleager · 04/11/2020 21:59

He's insane. His ardent supporters are too.
No wonder they're boarding up buildings in cities.

Seeing this morning's speech made it clear that trouble is coming.

nancy75 · 04/11/2020 22:01

5.8mil live in Wisconsin, 3.3mil votes, nowhere near the stupid figures that have been thrown around. This is how people like Trump win, lie, lie & lie again - eventually people believe it .

For ages I’ve thought Trump will call on the militias to keep him in the White House, but now I’m wondering if he will just stomp out & refuse to stick around to handover in Jan. like a kid that won’t play anymore

AcornAutumn · 04/11/2020 22:01

Moondust I heard that from an academic in America, I think he was up all night and may be losing it a bit.

Donald Trump has demonised his opponents - even Republicans - from the very beginning. Add in everyone else he's slagged off and this man has done far, far more to divide his country than anyone else.

He should be utterly ashamed of himself and I cannot wait to see him kicked out.

Echobelly · 04/11/2020 22:03

I'm not convinced it will be large scale, there just isn't really the appetite and I think most of the nuttiest gun nuts are some way from big urban areas where they might gather. But yes, Trump will stoke whatever he can - the 'They're stealing the election' messaging has already started.

I've already seen an article retweeted with a screaming headline that Military ballots were found in a bin, and mostly for Trump, accompanied by picture of box full of 100s of ballots. The actual story? 9 ballots were found in a bin and 7 were for Trump. But you can be sure it's been shared 1000s of times without anyone reading the story. The numbers are so piddling, I do believe it's true, but also that it's hardly evidence of mass tampering.

AcornAutumn · 04/11/2020 22:07

Everyone has demonised everyone- it sounds worse than here.

My cousin is a democrat, before anyone asks.

It would be good if they could come together and appeal for calm...

AmandaHoldensLips · 04/11/2020 22:11

He's been tweeting wild accusations which are carrying the twitter 'warning this content is blah blah nuts' with suppressing screen. Lawsuits being dished out. Getting his trumpeters out on the streets chanting "stop the count!"

It's fucking batshit over there.

AmandaHoldensLips · 04/11/2020 22:18

The screaming narcissist would have his ego fed with a banquet of civil unrest in his name. That would suit him very well indeed me thinks. LOOK HOW MUCH THEY LOVE ME!

It's like watching something deeply horrible happening in slow motion. Except it's not "like" watching it. We ARE watching it.

Fucking hell. I feel like I'm hallucinating.

NullcovoidNovember · 04/11/2020 22:23

Amanda yes I agree. I can imagine that.

Wild, I also agree with you that neither side comes out in glory.

NullcovoidNovember · 04/11/2020 22:24

The problem is though, they are saying that in some areas they have not allowed their watchers in.
Why! God if I was bidens team I would be doing everything by the book!!

Of course they’ve let the watchers in, they’ll say anything to get votes thrown out. As the count happens both sides have party members & lawyers everywhere, watching everything.

They have used postal voting for years with no issue at all, suddenly when it’s Trump it’s all a fraud & cheating

ktp100 · 04/11/2020 22:33

I do think Trump is a big enough dick to call for unrest if he loses.

Mischance · 04/11/2020 22:34

Trump has the Supreme Court in his pocket - he will go to them.

But yes indeed OP, I fear violent unrest. A candidate who refuses to leave when the vote goes against him is a dictator.

AmandaHoldensLips · 04/11/2020 22:34

I've been watching some of the live feeds and the reason they are closing the doors on the counting stations is because they are already filled with watchers to a safe capacity and Trump supports are getting a bit lairy outside chanting and shouting the odds.

Lots of people live streaming with cameras so the nonsense about shutting out watchers is FAKE NOOOOS.

Trump is just losing his shit because it looks like me might be a big fat loser in front of the whole world, and that would be really baaaaaaad.

AmandaHoldensLips · 04/11/2020 22:39

OMG there's a thing going round showing a trump supporter in a BBQ BEER & FREEDOM vest outside a polling station completely doing his pieces and yelling something about Biden stealing the election.

We don't get this sort of thing in our village on election day.
