To think that huge civil unrest is on it's way for the USA?

Well, just that really?

I can feel it, Trump isn't going to go quietly. This is such a worry.

Where are ppl seeing this footage of the craziness?

Leaannb · 05/11/2020 13:26

@AcornAutumn

I’m really worried about this

On another thread they said Gore conceded to Bush to avoid disruption?

I can already see the oddities — more votes in Wisconsin than voters? But I just wish it could be handled in a calm civilised fashion.

Gore did not concede. He sued Bush in the Supreme Court
longwayoff · 05/11/2020 13:29

Think was on c4 news.

Blue565 · 05/11/2020 13:46

@stopgap

Trump is a fascist, period, end of, goodbye bots.
You are undoubtably correct that Trump is extreme right, but when will the left learn that this kind of shut down, cancellation of debate is exactly what fuels Brexit, Boris, Trump and the masses who do actually vote for them.
movingonup201 · 05/11/2020 13:47

@Stripesnomore

There was always going to be the same risk, regardless of the outcome.
No I don't think so, liberals don't tend to go to civil unrest so easily, if Trump legitimately won, I don't think there'd be a lot of civil unrest, just as there wasn't the first time, I'd like to think they will stand up if he attempts to overrun a loss. Biden winning, yes I think Trump supporters are much more likely to be irrational and violent, sadly.
Defenbaker · 05/11/2020 13:59

If Biden wins, Trump will not accept defeat dangerously. It seems that as soon as it became clear that Biden was gaining ground, Trump immediately began a campaign to discredit the results and claim fraudulent practices. He is stoking up his supporters to make trouble and many of them are gun toting types so there is great potential for serious violence.

I wish Trump would just have the patience and dignity to wait until the final results are in, rather than jumping the gun with his ridiculous accusations. He is coming across as seriously deluded and dangerous.

movingonup201 · 05/11/2020 14:06

He's doing a press conference at 4.30pm our time and has some security bods with him, I'm assuming to declare evidence of "corruption"......?

He's like a petulant child, it depresses me how many people have voted for him.

Whitecottoncandy · 05/11/2020 14:28

@Ihaveyourback can you share more information on this? The state attorneys have come out multiple times saying they are actually live streaming the counting and checking of postal votes and any footage I’ve seen shows people looking on as this is done?

Leaannb · 05/11/2020 14:44

@Movingonup201...Want to explain the riots this past summer?

movingonup201 · 05/11/2020 14:57

@Leaannb the "riots" demanding human rights and equality for all? Damn those liberals and their largely peaceful protests wanting all people to be treated equally.

MissConductUS · 05/11/2020 15:04

YABU. The courts will resolve any legal challenges. If Trump refuses to accept court rulings he will have zero support from the Republican leadership. If he loses in court he simply won't be president come January 20th.

Leaannb · 05/11/2020 15:11

I didn't demonize them in anyway. The fact is they looted. They burned down businesses and homes. They jad every right to protest. That did not give them the right to act with violence. Those were not Trump Supporters. If Trump wins fairly or not people will riot. If Biden loses they will riot. Not protest. Not do something good but destroy

movingonup201 · 05/11/2020 15:11

@Leaannb who are "they"?

SinkGirl · 05/11/2020 15:17

If the leader of one of those countries classed as “shithole countries” by Trump and his ilk were on the news making baseless accusations of election fraud and essentially inciting riots, armed protestors surrounding counting stations etc, what would people be saying? It’s clear what’s going on here.

switswooo · 05/11/2020 15:19

@Wildswim

Yes it's a massive worry. America is just so divided. It's a pressure cooker.
An armed to the teeth pressure cooker.

Bit like the suffragettes then.

LioneIRichTea · 05/11/2020 17:58

Yep. He told the Proud Boys to stand by. I’m worried about what that means.

Kissthepastrychef · 05/11/2020 19:11

I thought since George Flloyd that the USA is a tinderbox. The combination of the pandemic, the economic situation and the race riots combine to make a perfect storm. I have to say that while I generally find all the hyperbole surrounding this election horrifying I do fear that the refusal of Trump to accept defeat could tip them into civil war or wide scale rioting.
The police appear to have little direction as they are all fragmented forces (apparently a small size city the size of Brighton might have anything up to 9 police agencies). It's no surprise when there is so little cohesion that they are slow to deal. Plus loads of police officers are demoralised by being tarred with the same brush as officers accused of corruption so probably aren't exactly feeling thrilled at dealing with yet more disorder.

MissConductUS · 05/11/2020 20:46

What's given you that idea?

Whereas trying to incorporate the far right into democratic politics and seeking compromise with them has an excellent history of success.

Kissthepastrychef · 05/11/2020 21:51

The dispatchers in the USA in the emergency services dispatcher group I belong to on facebook (I'm a police dispatcher). I asked how their police were arranged as I found it very confusing and was told that lots of cities have multiple PDs

tigerbear · 05/11/2020 21:58

Sorry to be ignorant, but unless you’re actually in the U.S, what exactly are people so worried about?

CoRhona · 05/11/2020 22:11

Truly??

Trump and his allies flouting the law; ruining democracy; encouraging violence, racism, misogyny, nepotism and SO much more Shock

EvilPea · 05/11/2020 22:21

I miss the dogs at polling station pictures we have in the uk.

EvilPea · 05/11/2020 22:21

It’s just the language used with trump

They are “stealing” the election. It’s just inciting anger.
