To think that huge civil unrest is on it's way for the USA?

Well, just that really?

I can feel it, Trump isn't going to go quietly. This is such a worry.

@TheJourneyWoman, Biden and Harris roundly condemned looting in cities. Trump, however, described as “patriots” the lunatics who tried to run the Biden bus off the highway in Texas.

SRS29 · 04/11/2020 23:32

Yep hence all the barriers around the White House and boarded up shops in most of the cities....so very sad 😔

Mimishimi · 05/11/2020 00:13

YANBU but I think the entire West is in trouble.

sst1234 · 05/11/2020 00:22

No, because most of the unrest is caused by the hard left who have infiltrated BLM. Far right are usually not committed enough to put the sustained effort into causing unrest.

The far right prefer to commit mass shootings or attempt to kidnap elected officials.
nancy75 · 05/11/2020 06:45

Reports ab Arizona counting station has had to close due to armed Trump supported turning up & fear of violence.
This is outrageous

TweeBree · 05/11/2020 07:23

The demonizing of anyone who doesn't agree with you/ didnt vote for the 'right side'. The shrill, puritan atmosphere and binary thinking of social media where you're either good or evil, the shutdown of civil debate and compromise that is cancel culture.

I was reading the Reddit politics subreddit yesterday (surprisingly civilised) and the Dem posters were doing just that. They sounded EXACTLY like the Trump supporters but in reverse.

There was a poll out yesterday that reported 80% of Americans aren't friends with anyone of the opposite political spectrum. I'm as left as they come but I still have many Tory friends. We have healthy debates on all sorts of topics and even agree on some stuff. I'd be bored stiff if everyone agreed with me on everything.

Mumisnotmyonlyname · 05/11/2020 07:53

It seems to me that any presidential candidate who calls an election then announces in advance he won't accept the result is a massive baby and unfit to govern.

turnitonagain · 05/11/2020 08:01

The protests and riots over the summer were linked to BLM, which is not part of the Biden campaign or the Democratic Party.

You can not compare that to the Trump caravans that blocked highways in several states or the gun toting Republicans shouting “stop the count” at election offices. They are specifically causing trouble in Trump’s name and he is encouraging them. The morons who tried to kidnap the governor of Michigan did so after Trump said the state needed to be “liberated.”

I’m sick of all the “both sides” rubbish. BLM is not Biden, Trump rallies ARE Trump.

lostPEkit · 05/11/2020 08:29

Agreed, turnitonagain. And god knows why people keep going on about so-called “cancel culture” in the context of Trump vs Biden. If anyone represents cancel culture, it’s the guy who’s spent the last four years screaming that everyone who opposes him needs to be imprisoned, deported or (in the case of broadcasters) taken off the air.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 05/11/2020 08:51

Actually pandemics cause civil unrest

There are clear links throughout history. I can find them if you need to see them.

ItsAlwaysSunnyOnMN · 05/11/2020 08:52

There will be some outbreaks of violence

But that vast majority of Americans are not gun toting crazy Trump supports even the majority that voted for him are not

He will of course encourage this

I feel many are a little over excited by the prospect of this and feign concern Hmm

Fluffybutter · 05/11/2020 09:09

I thought this was pretty much a given.
I think it’s pretty disgusting that trump supporters with firearms can scare voters as they attend the polling stations .
Where are the police ?

What? You think people want something else to worry about on top of everything else ? Why would anyone be “excited” at the prospect of this . I feel a sense of impending doom , not “excitement”
MummBraTheEverLeaking · 05/11/2020 09:16

DH said much the same last night. That if Trump is voted out he'd tweet for his supporters to do their patriotic duty, come to the White House and protect their president. And they'd do it. With guns.

Stripesnomore · 05/11/2020 09:18

I have made both sides comments, but that doesn’t mean I am blaming Biden. I just mean both extremes of a very polarised society.

A variety of causes - Trump, the pandemic, social events can stir up both extremes. I am not holding Biden responsible for everything that happens on a particular side.

I agree that the prospect of mass shootings (much more a right than a left atrocity in the US) is a terrifying prospect, much more so than riots, and I hadn’t thought about that outcome.

KittCat · 05/11/2020 09:30

Dystopian...

Ihaveyourback · 05/11/2020 09:47

I would like Biden to win, but I have to say I am very concerned about the postal votes, and the issues surrounding them in the swing states. As it turns out it is true that the invigilators were told to stand away from the ballots, and not a single postal vote was checked in some states. This is clearly going to be a huge legal battle, on the basis that the postal votes in some states make up 125,000 votes - of course the impact is going to be enormous. I am utterly amazed that either side would not have insisted that thorough checks were made, so that the result is trusted and is genuine. Coronavirus was given as the reason why the observers were not able to check, proper processes should have been in place.

I am quite horrified at the prospect of a supreme court battle between the two sides, no one can claim victory under these conditions, and civil unrest is likely to grow in the vacuum. Trump supporters will be believe fraud is at play, Biden supporters will think Trump is trying to frustrate the process. It is going to get very ugly. Trump is not Al Gore, he is no way going quietly or at all.

I am worried for the US.

This is not good for democracy. This is not good for the world.

Ihaveyourback · 05/11/2020 09:48

** are trusted and genuine

ItsAlwaysSunnyOnMN · 05/11/2020 10:00

Because on MN there is always the tendency to to predict the worse and some just seem to get a little excited by that

We have had Brexit civil unrest predicted numerous times Riots on the streets

I don’t doubt in the states people are concerned (I know from my own family) but Most Americans life shall go on as usual it’s tense over there but people are going about their normal business as most Americans and even most trump supporters are not going to take to the streets with their guns or shoot at people just because they own a gun

HappydaysArehere · 05/11/2020 10:04

Unbelievable! The posturing, the blatant lies and the holding onto power without any concern for the American people; he is without morals and as mad as a hatter. He has brought shame on a country that deserves so much more.

Yohoheaveho · 05/11/2020 10:08

If the USA descended into chaos and disorder Trump's ego would be hugely gratified he would experience this as a measure of how important he is... the greater the chaos the bigger he feels like a 2 year old watching a house burn down and enjoying all the pretty colours

SebastianTheCrab · 05/11/2020 10:28

@Wildswim

I blame the Democrats too. The Democrats' identity politics and disdainful attitude towards poor white Americans has created resentment and distrust. The demonizing of anyone who doesn't agree with you/ didnt vote for the 'right side'. The shrill, puritan atmosphere and binary thinking of social media where you're either good or evil, the shutdown of civil debate and compromise that is cancel culture. We think it's bad here, it's way worse in the States.

100% this

Not to mention antifa, if you want to talk about civil unrest. They're violent thugs and they're not pro Trump.

The FBI have been warning for years that right wing militias are organising in the US and that includes infiltrating law enforcement.

Tv last night bbc? C4? Was reporting from inside the count that the loons are saying they've been shut out of. Hardly secret. A mob of Trumpies was shoving and jostling and bawling in the lobby outside the glass doors - you can see this in the broadcast- and behaving like the louts they are. They were there to cause chaos and prevent the count taking place. The police very sensibly asked them to leave.
