Some people on florida are still angry that their votes werent counted properly so their electoral college votes went to Bush instead of Gore.

It wont be allowed to happen again, surely.
No other news organisation has called Arizona yet.

I agree that it’s more than a technicality but this isn’t true. AP called for Biden, several hours after Fox, admittedly.

AP is not a news organisation. They are the pollster used by Fox.

MissConductUS · 04/11/2020 21:29

Two weeks ago, the US government stoplossed US army and national guard members and brought them into cities like Austin today in case of violence.

I wasn't aware. Can you link to a source for this?

MadameMinimes · 04/11/2020 21:30

They are also used by the guardian for all of their tallies.

Username1243 · 04/11/2020 21:32

85% chance of victory for Biden.

To ask if Biden has definitely won?

The BBC should be ashamed of their lacklustre coverage of this election. Even The Sun is doing a better job, much as it pains me to say a good word about that lot.

Noshowlomo · 04/11/2020 21:33

253/270.
He’s got this!!

sergeilavrov · 04/11/2020 21:33

@MissConductUS I don't believe it's been reported yet. I'm aware of this as I'm currently on a stint in the US working in this field while colleagues are out with COVID, and then saw a number of my students from the courses I teach get pulled down to Austin (Army, not national guard) in the middle of their degrees. These are advanced students based at in the DC area and from West Point, so not exactly local.

@prh47bridge

Unless there are two associate press organisations, then no they are not pollsters. They are a news outlet; a not for profit, worldwide news outlet for factual journalism which is usually highly respected.

52andblue · 04/11/2020 21:35

I liked Biden's speech about reconciliation and bringing America together again. SO different to the divisiveness of the Orange Fool.
I hope to God Biden gets in. It's still too close for comfort

MadameMinimes · 04/11/2020 21:36

Unless I’m crossing wires somewhere and AP doesn’t mean what I think it does the AP is the associated press. Very much a news organisation.

AlwaysLatte · 04/11/2020 21:37

We've seen curveballs before. Don't call it yet. But let's hope so.

Nonamesavail · 04/11/2020 21:38

I'm not convinced yet.

Cam77 · 04/11/2020 21:38

At this stage I would put Biden at 95% + as having 270+ EV on completion of counting. What Trump will do after that God knows. There simply aren't any good signs coming in for Trump at this moment.

mathanxiety · 04/11/2020 21:39

AP is Associated Press. They are a news agency.

Wheresthebeach · 04/11/2020 21:39

I fear violence will stop the counting and it will be chaos.

Cam77 · 04/11/2020 21:39

Biden is currently about 1/9 with the bookies.

christinarossetti19 · 04/11/2020 21:40
@christinarossetti19 North Carolina have 117,000ish ballots outstanding, and postal ballots have until the 12th November to arrive, so I wouldn't anticipate getting a solid result until then.
Thank you!

WitchesSpelleas · 04/11/2020 21:41

What are the current bookies' odds for Trump, does anyone know?

WhereverIGoddamnLike · 04/11/2020 21:42

@prh47bridge

They're also like, the gold standard news source for calling elections because they have so many journalists calling and speaking with election officials and pollsters so they can collate the information. They are great at polls because they dont just send a few people out to poll the public; they call in information from as many reliabe sources as they can get.
And they aren't just used by Fox.

But as well as making poll information available, they also just report the news.

prh47bridge · 04/11/2020 21:42

The remaining states are:

North Carolina (15 electoral votes) - likely Trump
Georgia (16 EVs) - toss up but Biden slightly favourite
Pennsylvania (20 EVs) - Biden slightly favourite
Arizona (11 EVs) - likely Biden
Nevada (6 EVs) - likely Biden
Michigan (16 EVs) - likely Biden (and ABC has just called it for Biden while I've been typing)

In addition to the above, there will almost certainly be a recount in Wisconsin (10EVs). Currently Biden is shown as the winner in Wisconsin.

Cam77 · 04/11/2020 21:42

Only three incumbent Presidents have been defeated in history.

mathanxiety · 04/11/2020 21:42

Some shops are boarded up around here, and some have announced shorter hours for the next little while until we see how things pan out.

There is an air of nervous anticipation, mingled with disbelief that it is so close after all that Trump has put the US through. I live in a very blue part of a stalwart blue state and sometimes I think that the surrounding states are foreign countries.

You are right. I should have said broadcaster rather than news organisation. Most broadcasters (and, indeed, most of the pollsters) think that Fox and AP have called Arizona right but they shouldn't have called it yet.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 04/11/2020 21:44

There simply aren't any good signs coming in for Trump at this moment

More to the point his numbers haven't gone up for hours
Even an occasional win might have calmed him, but he must be climbing the walls by now
