CNN have called Michigan for Biden.

Cam77 · 04/11/2020 21:45

If you wanted to go dark, you might question whether Trump's final card isn't about almost certainly useless recounts - it's stoking rioting among his base

prh47bridge · 04/11/2020 21:48

@WitchesSpelleas

Yes, it looks like Michigan will be confirmed for Biden. However, this may also go to a recount. There won't be an automatic recount but Trump may be able to demand one.

I’m following the NY Times coverage and just spotted this.

Nevada has stopped counting until Thursday and there’s a slight chance he could take Georgia as they had a massive number of postal votes to go through earlier. The gap has been closing 🤞🏻

MadameMinimes · 04/11/2020 21:52

Having a recount when you’ve lost by over 50,000 votes is possible but not going to change anything.

Yelloripe · 04/11/2020 21:54

JingsMahBucket That is a lazy and predictable answer.Do you live in the US. I voted for Trump because the Democrats have long since cised to be a party for working class Americans. My family has been better off under the Current administration. No White supremacist here we hail from Salvador.

WitchesSpelleas · 04/11/2020 21:55

Trump was burbling something about trying to get the postal votes declared invalid.

JJsDinerWaffles · 04/11/2020 21:56

I’ve been reading the BBC news all day like a fool when I could have been here being properly educated by mumsnetters!!

WitchesSpelleas · 04/11/2020 21:57

There are a lot of echoes of the fallen British red wall constituents in this sentiment.

roxyrocky · 04/11/2020 21:59

Michigan just declared for Biden.
Can anyone reassure me about Nevada?

sergeilavrov · 04/11/2020 22:02

@Yelloripe I wish you and your family well, I hope that whoever wins this election, the situation improves. From this election, there are three key lessons we can see so far. (1) Don't group the Latinx vote. (2) ActBlue donation models fail to strategically invest donations, which has to be balanced against the propensity to give. (3) The rural-urban divide is deeper than ever.

Salvadorians are a fascinating voter demographic. Where immigrants settle is very important in initial waves, but with many living in the DC and LA areas, pricing out is a concern that means a more mobile demographic. This is also true in terms of the post-Katrina migration beyond NO. Salvadorians are more politically engaged than the average Latinx voter, and are particularly active in unions. In the rust belt, this coupled with disagreements about energy sources, may have contributed to unexpected losses for the Biden campaign. This is particularly important as growth in immigration from El Salvador is likely to make this trend more critical in future races.

Lets be honest about this, even if Biden wins, its a lame duck presidency, it is a Macron v Le Pen on steriods, in 4 years time the cages will still exist, isolationist policies will still be in place and it will be a new type of mexican wall, with probably added 'intervention' included.

There is going to be many mental hoops that are going to be jumped through and in a couple of years another worse trump-esc person takes power because there is no self refelection.

I am looking forward to the next 4 years of threads posting twitter hottakes of anti Biden stuff.

American politics is broken, no one has really won today.

Yelloripe · 04/11/2020 22:07

WitchesSpelleas I'm sorry I'm not sure what 'Fallen red wall 'means. I hate to sound ignorant but I don't really follow British politics

COME ON JOE!!!

Jellykat · 04/11/2020 22:11

Talk about tense..

Yelloripe
In the last UK General Election, a lot of traditionally Labour voting seats (red for generations) voted Conservative for the the first time and contributed to the massive majority of the Conservatives in parliament. It was a shock to many who viewed them as absolutely safe Labour seats. Mainly white working class.

They just wanted to be heard and felt that they were not being represented by Labour.

Okki · 04/11/2020 22:12

We're watching French tv and it's showing Biden with 264 to Trump 213

Whyarewewaiting · 04/11/2020 22:16

264 vs 213 on fox news too

WitchesSpelleas · 04/11/2020 22:16

Sorry, Yello, I did sound a bit cryptic!

The colours in the UK are the opposite to the US. Red = Labour - left wing, blue = Conservative - right wing.

There was a solid line of Labour-voting constituencies in north England, based on Labour being traditionally the party of the working class - known as 'the red wall'.

In the last election, many of these 'red wall' constituencies returned a Conservative MP (so turned 'blue) for the kind of reason you state - Labour is seen by many as no longer representing the interests of the working class. Hence Boris Johnson's very comfortable Conservative win last year.

I'm a working class Labour voter, so that isn't my personal view, but it was expressed by many in the 'fallen' red wall areas.

Whyarewewaiting · 04/11/2020 22:17

Sorry 214

Duckwit · 04/11/2020 22:18

Trump is absolutely losing his shit on Twitter - it's unbelievable!

CNN, CBS and the BBC have not yet called Arizona. Fox and Associate Press have called it for Biden.

CNN just did a breakdown of whats left in Arizona. Trump needs 58% of votes left to pull off a win there and the majority of votes there are in areas which are either lean blue or were won by Trump by a narrow margin over Clinton - 49% to 46% (Biden is doing better than Clinton so far). Other areas which are stronger red leaning only account for about 12% of votes left.

So it SHOULD go Blue, but some of the news agencies / tv stations are being more cautious.

Nancydrawn · 04/11/2020 22:19

NYTimes usually follows AP models, which are very conservative. I like to follow them because they only declare when they are entirely sure.

JammyGem · 04/11/2020 22:20

Little worried about Nevada - Biden has a really tiny lead there and they're only 75% counted. If Trump gets that I fear he'll get a second term.
