As of two hours ago, Biden was ahead of Trump in Georgia by 1000 votes. If he takes Georgia, HE HAS WON! PLEASE...say prayers for us. If Trump wins again, I'm not sure we'll survive in any recognizable form.

We're crossing everything for Biden on this side of the pond!

I’m glad, after going in FWR I was worried MN was getting pro Trump.

Absolutely, fingers crossed Flowers

From the Guardian Live feed:

It should be noted though that Georgia remains in ‘too close to call’ territory, and while the Associated Press and Fox News have called it for Biden, the Trump team still have hopes of turning that Arizona race around as more votes are counted.

AP and Fox are now saying they are confident Biden has won.

Think they're talking about Arizona there - Georgia hasn't been called by anyone, they're all saying too close to call til 100% counted.
Nikori · 06/11/2020 10:15

I quite like Biden winning Arizona after all the shit Trump spoke about McCain. It’s coming to bite him now, isn’t it?

Sending you all the good vibes. Whilst I can't believe Biden is the best the Democrats could serve up to challenge, I will be so pleased if Trump loses right now. Its so important

CounsellorTroi · 06/11/2020 10:27

I fear Trump will have to be dragged kicking and screaming from the White House.

I agree, but as I tell my friends, "Right now, you're quibbling about what counter tops to install WHEN THE KITCHEN IS ON FIRE! Put OUT THE FIRE! We can worry about counter tops later!

Georgia is not enough on its own. It leaves Biden 1 electoral college vote short of the winning line. He needs any one of the other states (Alaska, Arizona, Nevada, North Carolina and Pennsylvania). If Biden wins Georgia and Trump wins all the rest the electoral college would be tied.

Weatherwarning · 06/11/2020 10:48

If it is a tie, unlikely but possible, then it is likely Trump would win as the Republicans would have the power to vote him in.

They might not though, Republicans are already turning against him since his conspiracy rants.
DebHagland · 06/11/2020 11:05

That slimebag Trump will try every trick in the book to stay in the Whitehouse.

I'm not surprised any more by any of the bull...t he comes out with, he claimed he had won the election yesterday/ last week claimed that America has beaten Coronavirus (the man is a completely deluded despot) and the sooner he gets booted out the better, before he does any more damage.
Biden will have a fight though, some of Trumps followers are as nutty as he is.

nolongersurprised · 06/11/2020 11:21

Biden will win.

The remainder of Pennsylvania is very very blue. It won’t even be that close in that state in the end.

This is exactly what republicans wanted though when they banned these states from counting mail ins on Election Day. They knew in person voting would make these state look red but the mail ins would be blue and that it would therefore look like trump was “winning” to start with, hence lawsuits etc.

If all votes had been allowed to be counted on the day the narrative would be very different

Not sure how you work that out.

If it is a tie in the electoral college it could be decided by faithless electors (i.e. electors that are pledged to support one candidate voting for the other) - if that happens it would be the first time faithless electors have determined the outcome of an American presidential election.

If the vote in the electoral college remains a tie, the House of Representatives (the lower house in Congress) elects the president. However, each state delegation has a single vote. So, for example, California has 53 members in the House of Representatives but would only get one vote. It is therefore possible for one party to have a majority in the House but still lose the vote for president. The House keeps voting until one candidate gets an absolute majority of the state delegation votes.

I wasn't working anything out, simply repeating a report I heard on the news. Thanks for the clarification. Its all very fascinating.

loobyloo1234 · 06/11/2020 12:12

PA looks likely to vote Biden in now also so it does look awfully like the awful Orange man is on his way out. He can kick and scream all he likes in the process but its happening

FabbyChix · 06/11/2020 12:15

I Hope he has, I couldnt bare another four years of the pompous, sexist, racist pig

CuriousaboutSamphire · 06/11/2020 12:18

Thanks @PizzzaExpressWoking for that! I've been trying to put that into words... Biden maybe a tad hesitant at times, but doctored clips have been seen before by the Trumpists!

And as US politics seem to be built upon the supposition that either of the Houses can undo, redo any vote, who the hell knows what will happen, no matter what the actual vote count is?

Democracy huh? Wota larf!

sergeilavrov · 06/11/2020 12:21

To correct some maths I saw here: Georgia worth 16 votes. This would bring Biden to 280 electoral college votes, which makes him President Elect. If Arizona flips back (unlikely), it’s worth 11 votes, but he gets Georgia - he would need one more state to win.

My PhD was in Political Science and I primarily worked on insurgency and authoritarianism. Watching the statements and moves being made last night, I am concerned. Statements from the executive, threats from his advisors to behead federal officials, Sheriff’s refusing to uphold court orders, threats against Biden supporters from police officers, and increasing numbers of armed groups on the street. There may be a long path to January. This is behaviour we can recognise from a number of other states backsliding, it’s called the dictator’s playbook.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 06/11/2020 12:23

WHAT?!?!?! Behead federal officials?? Sheriffs defying the law?!?!

What the hell did I miss overnight?

You are right, @sergeilavrov dictator's playbook it mist certainly is! Fuck!

Tfoot75 · 06/11/2020 12:30

I think the country needs urgent electoral and judicial reform, but not sure what scenario would prompt it (probably only disaster).

How can the supreme Court be politically motivated? Not justice then is it.

How can someone win a majority of votes but not be president? That's not democratic. OK, could happen in theory in this country, but it never has.
