He has, right? Joe Biden is the new POTUS!

@32notevenat20. He started those cause he knows he's going to lose and he'll fight to stay in the WH 'til the end.
Don't be fooled. Biden would've done the same, only if Trump had won, large parts of the country would've gone up in smoke and he wouldn't have as much to worry about.

MotheringShites · 05/11/2020 18:39

I’m hoping Biden wins and will lift the travel ban!

You think travelling across the globe during a worldwide pandemic is a good idea?
purplebunny2012 · 05/11/2020 18:43
@WhereverIGoddamnLike, no worries. I hope my correction wasn’t smug, it was there purely for clarity as I realise this site is predominantly UK users and the US election process must be confusing as hell.

The postal votes are almost guaranteed to be skewed in Biden'a favour.

I wondered about this comment as well, was that yours? On what do you base this? I ask because—historically—postal voters are overseas military who tend to vote for the Republican Party.

With COVID I’m sure postal votes must be coming from US residents more than normal, just wondered what source there is to assume postal votes will be in Biden’s favour.
Simply because Republicans were more likely to vote in person because their beloved leader has brainwashed them to believe Covid ain't so bad. And they probably don't trust the postal voting because of the same brainwashing

Face palm. As if that is down to POTUS
Tfoot75 · 05/11/2020 18:49

@MadameMinimes

I also think this is going Biden’s way btw. I don’t think Trump had any hope of holding his lead in Pennsylvania and think he’ll lose by at least 100,000 votes there.
At end of yesterday there were 1 million left to count and Trump had a margin of 400,000 votes. Now there are still 600,000 votes to count and Trump has a margin of 110,000. There's no way he can hold onto it and realistically no way Trump is going to win. Hardly any of the postal votes are for him as he's been criticizing postal votes for weeks (presumably because he knew he'd take an early lead with more in person votes and it plays into his hands with all this legal challenge and unrest - he's not stupid, just evil). I saw it quoted that they were receiving 9 postal votes for Biden to every 1 for Trump in Pennsylvania.

@Puzzledandpissedoff

(Nevada) having issues with some ballots due to issues regarding the signature on the ballot return envelope. Either the required signature is missing or it doesn’t match the signature on voter registration rolls. So now, prior to including these in the count, they have to notify voters to see if they want to correct them

That's something else that's always worried me. In most cases in the UK, if you louse up your vote that's it - it's invalidated - and I just wonder if offering "second chances" is a good idea

But all we have to do is put the x in the right boxes. Not as many hoops to jump through
Dongdingdong · 05/11/2020 18:55

he's not stupid

@Tfoot75 that’s debatable...

Kljnmw3459 · 05/11/2020 18:55

Biden has more ways to win but I still think it's too close for comfort. If it was called right now it would be trump.

RedToothBrush · 05/11/2020 18:55

The editor of one of Nevada's newspapers is saying that Trump can't win there now.

AP and Fox have declared Arizona for Biden and have him on 264.

They are likely to call Nevada fairly soon even if there are lots of votes still to be counted there. Given that Nevada is 6 votes, things start to get 'interesting' at that point.

We are therefore not far off the press starting to call things and that starts to change the mood music. Most sensible republicans will accept that even if they aren't happy.

The votes being counted are then more of a formality and we will be into endless, pointless and vexatious legal challenges - many of which in PA and GA will be largely irrelevant by this point.

Its just a question of sitting back and waiting.

RedToothBrush · 05/11/2020 18:56

No.

If the counting just stopped Biden is ahead in Arizona and Nevada. Thats all he needs for the Presidency.

It doesn't matter about PA.

Kljnmw3459 · 05/11/2020 18:57

I wish they didn't do this calling thing until the amount of uncounted votes was less than the difference between the two candidates.

Kljnmw3459 · 05/11/2020 18:59

@RedToothBrush you're quite right.

AlternativePerspective · 05/11/2020 19:01

Trump has lost his bid for a recount in michigan.

Flyonawalk · 05/11/2020 19:01

Couldn’t a few faithless electors make a difference, whichever candidate is declared to have won?

They need to make their mind up - count the votes, not count the votes!

Jellykat · 05/11/2020 19:08

You couldn't make it up Parker, pure insanity...

roxanne119 · 05/11/2020 19:09

Because up until trump we’ve had a good relationship with the USA but he was buffoon ☹️

MotheringShites · 05/11/2020 19:10

@purplebunny2012 I thought the ban was a Presidential decree and could be lifted by the POTUS. Biden was vocally against it when it was introduced.

Anyway, it was a lighthearted comment which I forget will only be met by snidey remarks on here.

Tfoot75 · 05/11/2020 19:13

PA secretary of state has just announced the vote there may be decided tonight (US time) - Trump has lost if Biden wins PA, and it seems he's expected to as he's winning 80% of the final votes and Trumps lead almost gone with 500,000 votes to come. So hopefully it'll be called before morning here and we can all move on! Cant believe I've go so obsessed with it last 2 days!

Bracken20 · 05/11/2020 19:14

In Ireland with less than 5million population it can take up to 10 days to count election votes. I think the USA should look how lucky they are no way our pollsters would work round the clock.
Find it mad that anyone would want someones vote not counted for a country that fought so hard to get everyone the right to vote. Surely you would want everyone that made the effort voice heard. Your mail in ballot system is more complex and secure than most countries so think the system other than the electoral college system is so fair and transparent.

Cam77 · 05/11/2020 19:18

Biden is going to win Pennsylvania very comfortably, 100k +
All the others, including Arizona, look good for Biden but of course he doesn’t need them with Pennsylvania. Hence why Trump‘s team is focusing all the rage on Pennsylvania because that’s the one that seals it totally, likely not even in recount territory.

Cam77 · 05/11/2020 19:20

I “get” the perceived appeal of Trump, even if I don’t agree with it. But what Trump is doing now is unforgivable in my opinion. He is spreading seeds of hate throughout the country which will inevitably end violence in some instances. He is confirming all our worst fears about his worst aspects. A real nasty lunatic.

ChaToilLeam · 05/11/2020 19:21

Trump is sounding more and more desperate. I wonder what will become of him should he lose.
