For not making the bed

rosesareredxxx · 01/11/2020 22:31

I never make my bed and neither does hubby. Whoever gets out last just takes the cover off themselves, gets up and ready and on with the day. Are we tramps for doing this? Lol

Also does anyone else not make their bed?

I guess I figure no one comes into our bedroom and we are both too lazy to do it 😂

I assume when people DO make the bed they also sleep with smoked salmon under their pillows.
That is my opinion and just how I view it.

Grin I air mine, I think a bed needs freshening up, then make it at night.

Angelina82 · 02/11/2020 08:36

If I used my bedroom a lot an unmade bed would personally bother me. But it doesn’t bother you so all’s good, and at least your bed gets a good airing ever day.

Averyyounggrandmaofsix · 02/11/2020 08:53

I am more shocked about people making their beds without airing them than not making them. Still as long as everything looks OK on the surface eh?

OoohTheStatsDontLie · 02/11/2020 09:02

I dont make my bed. Yes it does make the room look untidy but I don't spend any time in my bedroom until I'm just about to get back in bed...so what's the point tidying something that you're only going to see for 10 minutes

Noitjustwontdo · 02/11/2020 09:04

I knew someone who didn’t bother putting a sheet over the mattress- that’s a billion times worse than not straightening the duvet out imo.

I do make my bed but I’m not very good at it. My Mum and Grandma iron their sheets and have absolutely pristinely made beds. I’ve never been able to recreate it (or been arsed to).

unicornparty · 02/11/2020 09:06

I leave mine to air. I'd hate to make a bed when it was all still warm. I open the windows and pull everything back, it feels lovely

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 02/11/2020 09:21

I straighten the pillows, smooth the bottom sheet and fold the duvet down to air the bed when I get up. I “make” it next time I go upstairs which may be an hour or so later or may be when I come home from work.... sometimes DH remembers and makes it when he goes upstairs.

Iwantacookie · 02/11/2020 09:28

If I didnt make my bed I wouldn't be able to move around my bedroom because of the amount of cushions etc I have on there.
Although I normally go have a coffee before i make it.

CorianderLord · 02/11/2020 09:31

We try to make it everyday or the room looks gross.

KiposWonderbeasts · 02/11/2020 09:39

Depends how quickly the cat got to it. I pull the duvet back to the bottom third of the bed unless the cat’s already asleep on it.

LG101 · 02/11/2020 09:49

Never make our bed, we pull the duvet down and straighten it out so it looks alright. But can’t stand the idea of all that sweat and grossness being trapped

CounsellorTroi · 02/11/2020 09:57

I air my bed. I also don’t iron bed linen and think bed cushions are among the most pointless things ever invented. Trampy and proud.

alliwanttodoiseatcarbs · 02/11/2020 10:27

I haul my mattress outside every day to air, and hang my sheets on the line. I rush outside to bring them in every night lest they get darked on.

Rosebel · 02/11/2020 10:55

If I get up after my husband I make the bed. If I get up first then my husband leaves it. He does change the sheets once a week though so I don't say anything.

draughtycatflap · 02/11/2020 10:59

I prop the duvet up with four toilet brushes so it airs naicely.

Janegrey333 · 02/11/2020 11:38

I always make the bed. Can’t imagine that people don’t. It’s slovenly.

Janegrey333 · 02/11/2020 11:44

The bed has a cover over the duvet. I arrange cushions on the bed too: two large linen check cushions on each pillow and a cream rectangular cotton cushion in the mid point between each pillow. To finish off, I place a heart shaped cushion covered in vintage fabric in the mid point between the linen cushions at the top!!

Clearly, there is no hope!

Ninkanink · 02/11/2020 11:47

It’s actually better to let your bed air.

We get up, fold the duvet back to let the bed air for a few hours, then I come back and make the bed around mid day, because it looks so much nicer made up and we have a lovely bedspread and matching cushions and it’s a shame not to use them!

I make the bed now because I’m not working and my DH does. But back when we both worked either one of us made it, just depended on who got there first.

Janegrey333 · 02/11/2020 11:47

@LuckyAmy1986

I’ve been told to calm down....wow
It’s a Mumsnet favourite. Apparently an attempt at a put down.
Janegrey333 · 02/11/2020 11:48

Well, of course the bed is aired first. Surely that’s a given?

Ninkanink · 02/11/2020 11:50

I don’t know...I know of lots of people who make the bed straightaway. There are also people who never open their windows, ever!

Can’t say I care much about what happens in other people’s houses, tbf.

TigerBrite · 02/11/2020 11:51

You need to air the bed. My grandad used to hang his duvet out the window on sunny days.

Janegrey333 · 02/11/2020 11:59

It’s amusing that people are trying to suggest anyone who actually makes the bed is not airing it! Is that your feeble attempt to make yourself feel better about your standards?!

FOJN · 02/11/2020 12:00

I prop the duvet up with four toilet brushes so it airs naicely.

Thanks, laughing my head off.

I never make the bed either, well not MN style. To me a made bed is one with a straightened sheet, plumped pillows and the duvet neatly folded back.

Youandmeareluckytobeus · 02/11/2020 12:03

My brother never makes his.
