For not making the bed

rosesareredxxx · 01/11/2020 22:31

I never make my bed and neither does hubby. Whoever gets out last just takes the cover off themselves, gets up and ready and on with the day. Are we tramps for doing this? Lol

Also does anyone else not make their bed?

I guess I figure no one comes into our bedroom and we are both too lazy to do it 😂

@SchrodingersImmigrant ooh I came here to comment but now I want to know what you do with your duvets in the freeze?
And is the freeze just cold weather/winter or an actual frost? Should I be putting my duvets on the line each winter? So many questions

Toothsil · 01/11/2020 22:52

I air ours - pull the sheet straight and tuck it in, plump the pillows, and fold the duvet back, then pull the duvet back up before we go to bed.

rosesareredxxx · 01/11/2020 22:52

@ItsNotPinkItsSalmon I certainly do change the bedding sheets etc!!

I never used to make mine either, or rarely. Once a week when I changed the bedclothes but there's no time to do much when you are off to work, not that there is much to do with a duvet but even so. You can crawl back in to it and night and pull the duvet over you. Quite enough.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 01/11/2020 22:54

@cactusdog I put them out to air when it's below 0 and dry weather. It's magical. They are beautifully fluffy after even when there is no wind and just so fresh. Plus temperatures bellow 0 kill some of the dustmites. Win win.

Also, if someone suffers from allergies, freezing pillow in a freezer for a day seemed to calm it down in our house. I just used the vacuum bag to fit it in😁

DrEllie · 01/11/2020 22:56

I might occasionally straighten it but generally can't be bothered

2020iscancelled · 01/11/2020 22:57

It’s up to you what you do in your own home! Especially your bedroom, where realistically no one else goes.

But I will say, I’ve started recently making my bed properly on a morning (not just throwing duvet over) since decorating the bedroom, I’ve been tucking the duvet in like a hotel, putting my new throws and nice cushions on - only a few big ones - and just faffing with it for 5 minutes after I’ve had a shower and I’m getting dressed.

It’s made a BIG difference tbh. I find if I make it I keep the rest of the room tidier and I feel happy every time I walk into my room during the day to see my nicely made, comfy looking bed! It’s a small thing but it’s made a surprisingly big difference to me - and my partner has commented that it’s nicer as well.

But we’re all different! What works for you is all that matters

SchrodingersImmigrant · 01/11/2020 22:58

I did read somewhere that coming to a made and tidy bed in the evening is supposed to help sleep so I might make more of an effort to make them before that.
Funnily I always do it when getting ready to go in😂

36weekswithno2 · 01/11/2020 22:59

First thing I pull the duvet right back to air the bed (always open windows too), sort ds, have breakfast, shower etc. Then I make the bed (with all 2 decorative throws and 6 decorative cushions on it Blush)
I've only ever left it unmade if I'm really unwell.

JaceLancs · 01/11/2020 23:02

I have to have a good shake then straighten (in winter)
In summer I fold back and leave to air
Change sheets every Sunday - bliss tonight to get into clean crisp bed

yikesanotherbooboo · 01/11/2020 23:03

Air the bed, I can't imagine leaving the house for the day without folding the duvet right back . I do straighten sheets and pillows but feel less strongly about it.

nicerbeing · 01/11/2020 23:17

@ItsNotPinkItsSalmon

I assume when people don't make the bed they also don't change the covers. That is my opinion and just how I view it.

Why do you assume that? Just why?

BritWifeinUSA · 01/11/2020 23:27

Surely it’s just a question of straightening and shaking a duvet into place and squaring the pillows? Takes no time at all. Over here, duvets are not a thing and it’s sheets and blankets. Making a bed with sheets and blankets is a lot more work.

ItsNotPinkItsSalmon · 01/11/2020 23:27
@ItsNotPinkItsSalmon are you ok? You seem a bit bothered by the fact some people don’t make their beds. Chill out hun
U ok hun?

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 01/11/2020 23:27

Often our cat gets in as soon as we get out, but once she’s up we always make it. I think it looks scruffy unmade. We had an electrician doing work on Friday and the cat got up to see him - I dashed in and made the bed immediately , even though he wasn’t in the bedroom at all!

We always air it on a Saturday when it gets changed.

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 01/11/2020 23:29

I can’t be bothered to do anything at the moment, getting out of bed is hard enough

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 01/11/2020 23:34

I make it in the sense I flatten the bottom sheet, plump the pillows & fold the duvet back to the end of the bed. Then when I go up to close the curtains & shut the window (when it starts getting dark or when our youngest goes to bed at 7, whichever comes first) I pull the duvet back up.

thesoundofthepolice · 01/11/2020 23:41

I don't make the bed unless it's the day it gets changed or I know we're having visitors.

I do however, straighten the pillows and bottom sheet, fold the covers back neatly to "air" and the windows are always open anyway......oh and I change the bedding every 5-8 days depending on our shifts

Elizaaa · 01/11/2020 23:45

I use a fitted sheet so make sure that's on properly, flump the pillows and turn the duvet down to the bottom of the bed. It stays like that until we get back in it. I leave the window open as much as possible.

As for why people assume unmade beds don't get changed, it's because not making or turning down the bed is slovenly 🤷

Divebar · 01/11/2020 23:53

Just because the bed needs airing doesn’t mean airing all day. I get up - fold the duvet back, plump the pillows and then shower and get dressed etc. After 45 minutes or so I make the bed. Half the battle of a tidy bedroom is having a bed that’s made.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 01/11/2020 23:54

Just because the bed needs airing doesn’t mean airing all day.

Well, just in case. You can never be too sure if it was aired properly, amirite Grin

1forAll74 · 02/11/2020 00:08

I usually just straighten my duvet and pillows, If I left the duvet all rucked up, my cats would burrow underneath it and go to sleep.

ChloeCrocodile · 02/11/2020 00:18

I only make the bed when I change the sheets. The rest of the time it seems pointless. Couldn’t care less if people think it’s trampy tbh.

JellyfishandShells · 02/11/2020 00:25

Might be assuming too much here, but surely most people in the UK use fitted sheets and duvets now? . It’s not exactly having to do hospital corners .

BlueThistles · 02/11/2020 00:48

Beds are all made as soon as we're up... rooms hovered and aired ... I also vac my mattresses once a month and using barcarbonate of soda to freshen and vac again .. bedding and sheets changed every week sometimes more often... each to their own 🌺
