For not making the bed

rosesareredxxx · 01/11/2020 22:31

I never make my bed and neither does hubby. Whoever gets out last just takes the cover off themselves, gets up and ready and on with the day. Are we tramps for doing this? Lol

Also does anyone else not make their bed?

I guess I figure no one comes into our bedroom and we are both too lazy to do it 😂

Unmade beds are a slippery slope into other areas of slovenliness.

BeanieB2020 · 02/11/2020 01:04

Eh. You do you. I like to have my bed made when I get in it and also make it because my house is open-ish and my bedroom is visible from the lounge if I leave the door open and I hate seeing an unmade bed and also hate closing the doors. If you don't care that your bed is made, nobody else should care!

Whattodo345 · 02/11/2020 01:09

Don’t you essentially make it before you get in it in an evening anyway? You are just postponing the inevitable...

TheyreComingToGetYouBarbara · 02/11/2020 01:09

I don't like getting into an unmade bed, so almost the only time I don't do it is when one of us is feeling ill. It just feels nicer to climb into a bed that's been made, not to mention that I think it looks neat and tidy and only takes a moment to do.

However, part of the reason I keep the covers pulled up is that two of our dogs like to jump onto the bed when they get the chance, and I don't want hairy sheets. I know many would judge us for having the dogs on the bed, so who am I to judge whether or not someone makes their bed? Wink I do what suits me and expect others to do the same.

AlwaysLatte · 02/11/2020 01:17

I make it the second I get out of it, it feels weird otherwise! Unless it's a Tuesday when I change the bedding. I don't think an unmade bed is very inviting when you want to get back in it.

Furries · 02/11/2020 01:22

Pillows plumped back up, duvet given a bit of a shake and folded back to the foot of the bed, windows opened to varying degrees depending on the weather. At night, gel into bed and pull duvet back over me. All very easy!

If I had visitors, would probably make the bed just for “show”. But prefer to do the above and keep it aired.

One thing I NEVER do is iron my bedding - life really is too short for that shit, it gets crumpled overnight anyway so there are better things to waste my time on!

grassisjeweled · 02/11/2020 01:23

Meh

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 02/11/2020 01:35

I turn mine down, smooth the bottom sheet & plump the pillows. Bedroom windows is already open as I can't sleep with it closed. So the bed & the room air until I get home from work. At some point I make the bed properly & fold back my side & turn the bedside light on if it's dark. It looks cosy & inviting.

When it's turned back tidily it doesn't bother me if people see it. Why would it?

Personally I'd feel embarrassed if it was just the mess it was when I'd got out of it.

My mum barely moves when she sleeps (and she's a slim wee thing) so you can hardly tell if anyone has slept in her bed or not. But she still turns the whole thing back to air it.

If I was her I'd probably just slip out if it and leave it.

But you do what suits you. Your bed, your rules!

toiletpaper · 02/11/2020 02:12

My mother brought me up to air my bed so I never make it. She used to make it up a couple of hours before bed but I never saw the point at that time.

hetanom · 02/11/2020 02:35

I hate wasting time so I haven't made a bed in about 20 years (since my mum stopped trying to make me).Nobody sees our bedroom apart from us, we don't care how it looks. So no need to waste our time making it.

hetanom · 02/11/2020 02:36

@ItsNotPinkItsSalmon

I assume when people don't make the bed they also don't change the covers. That is my opinion and just how I view it.

Whee! [lands with an overweight flump in a huge pile of dirty laundry] So liberating.

Anyway, making the bed would annoy the cat.

DaddysGirlForLife · 02/11/2020 02:42

We air out our bed for a little and then make the bed. I love a tidy room with a made bed!

lazyfecker · 02/11/2020 02:50

"When you get out of bed and make it right away you are trapping a lot of the moisture. Airing out the bed for awhile before making it can help reduce the moisture and reduce the number of dust mites as well. A study by Kingston University discovered dust bites can't survive in warm, dry conditions found in unmade beds"

So everyone who makes their bed is sleeping on moist, mite-infested sheets. Yuck. Making the bed really is a slippery slope into other areas of slovenliness.

Dixiee · 02/11/2020 03:05

My Nan always use to say make your bed and keep your home tidy before you leave the house just in case something happens and people see your house like that, it saves you the embarrassment. So I make sure my bed is made and home is reasonably tidy before I leave all the time.

I change my bedsheets frequently and when I do it, I usually take it apart in the morning and put new ones in during the evening so the mattress airs out for several hours.
Gimbap · 02/11/2020 03:15

I never make the bed, no one sees it but me and I don't care what my bed looks like.

I'm with you.

In this house DH tries desperately to close windows and make beds while I open everything and air beds. I'll tell him I'm a slovenly tramp. He'll approve, and he values MN opinions so it will be especially sweet.

GrinGrinGrin I laughed so much at this!
Chicchicchicchiclana · 02/11/2020 03:41

I never make the bed, not even when I change the sheets. I find the idea slightly revolting. The last time I made my own bed was probably when we had the Estate Agent round to take photos for selling (2004).

pralineandketchup · 02/11/2020 04:40

I prefer the sheets to be cold when I get in so I always leave my duvet folded back.

We dont. Dont care what it looks like. Bedbugs like well made beds so I'm gonna say it's more hygienic my way Grin

I do this too but mainly because once I've stripped it I cant be arsed to put new ones on again then have to rush job it before bedtime. Nice to know it's actually a good thing Grin
