So frustrated with all the people, from the ineffective and blustering MP to the idiots out trick or treating tonight............

When will people learn that a bloody pandemic cannot be ignored and that insisting on personal freedoms/ personal preferences is NOT going to shorten the lock downs or save the vulnerable ? Sad

Maybe this just about sums up.the aragance of the human race. Boris is being advised but the best scientists. You would have to be mind boggling arrogant to to think you know better than his chief scientific and health advisors. Sorry to inform.you, your really not cleverer than those two.

We have never lived through a pandemic like this. Sorry again to inform people die in pandemics.

Humans are not in charge here. We really are not. It's going to keep on killing. Not even the cleverest humans alive on earth can prevent the deaths.

People die, viruses kill. That's nature. The nature of our planet, our global ecosystem. You cant tell the virus to stop because we change from Tory to labour or anything. Viruses existed before us anyway. They are just doing what they have always done.

If you want to blame anyone blame our species from being to densely populated and globally mobile. Or the science that keeps us alive longer than we would a few hundred years ago.

Or we can can just be arrogant and thing it would all go away if everyone was just as perfect as ourselves.

I think I'm going to stop being scared and put my faith back in nature that this is just life doing its thing.

why are we screwing the world up to save the over 65s

Because that’s my mum and dad. And frankly I’ll pay twice as much tax for the next ten years if it means they are still alive.

There’s been high compliance in Italy

There was also high compliance in Asian countries. They are not seeing a resurgence. Which shows it is the guidelines which are wrong, not the people.

secretllama · 31/10/2020 19:45

I wonder at what point people will stop thinking other people are selfish for wanting normal human interactions. 6 months? A year? Whats your cut off for when you'll stop calling people selfish and think its actually cruel?

People mostly complied. For months. And to many people, it looks like it was all for nothing and there's no end in sight... I'm sick of the belitting of what is asked of people and the assumption that others will find it as easy as you did to stay away from family and friends.

Its a virus doing what a virus does. Blaming people is pointless.

DianaT1969 · 31/10/2020 19:45

I hate these nasty blame threads. Started by small people who don't understand the basics of a virus. They don't appreciate all the hard-working people who have been facing Covid daily since March. I imagine the people who write these are curtain twitchers who don't work and contribute very little to society.

Mintychoc1 · 31/10/2020 19:45

@formulation

why are we screwing the world up to save the over 65s

And what if this virus targeted babies and children? What if we were seeing pictures from around the world of nicu and picu beds full ? I’m pretty sure those ‘over 65s’ that so many think don’t matter as much would be doing all they could to make sacrifices and save lives

It’s ridiculous to suggest that young lives and old lives are equal in value. They’re simply not. Yes of course my 80 year old mother is more important to me than any of you mumsnetter’s children, because I love her, and I don’t know you lot from Adam. But I can still see that objectively your kids’ lives are more important , because they are just starting out, and they need their lives to not be blighted at such an early stage. Tell me, when you read of the death of an 85 year old from a heart attack, does it genuinely seems as tragic to you as a 5 year old dying of leukaemia? Because to me there’s no contest.

Yup. We are trying to save the lives of the over 65s and not just letting them suffer because that's the fucking moral, civilised thing to do.

Fucking hell.

VerticalHorizon · 31/10/2020 19:46

why are we screwing the world up to save the over 65s???

Because if we don't save the over 65's someone will then say 'why are we saving the over 50s? or the over 40s?'.
Once you think this way, why save the unintelligent? why save Northerners?...

And this is far FAR from a lockdown. It's a pitiful attempt to look like we are doing something to curb the exponential rise in cases without shutting down the majority of businesses.

Of course, pubs and cafes facilitate the spread, not probably less so than schools or offices full of people who 'cannot' work from home.

Within a month, it'll be so widespread that it'll need draconian measures to regain control of. It's a diabolic attempt to curb it.

VerticalHorizon · 31/10/2020 19:47

*but probably less so than....

@AppleKatie

It’s got fuck all to do with individuals the errors are made at the top.
Good job having absolutely no self accountability and just blaming everything on the government. Very smart.
Livelovebehappy · 31/10/2020 19:48

Blame people who refuse to wear masks, who mix with others ignoring the rules, stupid people who think there’s some conspiracy theory to it all, who refuse to follow rules because they think they don’t apply to them. It doesn’t matter what the government put in place, if idiots refuse to follow the rules, then it’s all pretty pointless. And there are a hell a lot of idiots out there - you really can’t argue with stupid..

LaurieFairyCake · 31/10/2020 19:48

Nope. My daughter has Covid - she hasn't been out - she caught it from her partner who serves food in a restaurant

Neither she nor her partner (who has one lung after having cancer !) are 'idiots'. Angry

keeprocking · 31/10/2020 19:50

@BoingBoingyBoing

Yup. They are called the tories.
Ah yes, hot chestnut time already!
cuparfull · 31/10/2020 19:50

@Soundbyte

I think it’s a shame that people are being coerced into blaming each other for this shitshow and turning on each other rather than directing their ire at the actual cause - the shower of bastards that is our government.
The shower of bastards by the name of CHINA!!

And the idiots wandering around daily spreading their spittle on others by NOT wearing masks.

AND the shops not enforcing mask wearing to MITIGATE the virus load.

AND the students queueing outside the fancy dress store intent on going partying in Liverpool tonight.....DOH Selfish Bastards

Rubyroost · 31/10/2020 19:51

I mean what do you expect everyone to do? Hide away forever? This virus could be here to stay with no vaccine that works. Then what?

lazylinguist · 31/10/2020 19:51

YABU. Why do you think 'idiots' are spreading it rather than school kids and people mixing at work etc?

BoingBoingyBoing · 31/10/2020 19:52

@Livelovebehappy

It really, really does matter what the government put in place.

Really, it does.

It also matters how they communicate and whether they are seen to actually follow their own rules.

Joe public isn't to blame for a virus spreading. That's what they do.

The government is to blame for utterly mismanaging the problem.

Purpledaisychain · 31/10/2020 19:52

The people ignoring the rule of 6 are idiots. The people going out and about when they are either experiencing symptoms or know that they are covid positive are idiots.

TheDowagerDuchessofMwwwahaha · 31/10/2020 19:53

The government are ultimately to blame, but the idiots who ignored restrictions are to blame too.

If Cummings had been quickly sacked when it came out he broke lockdown compliance would have been much better I think. If track and trace hadn’t been utterly fucked up and if quarantine for travellers had been enforced things would have been very different.

You can blame the idiots, but the idiots should have been dealt with!

HaudYerWheeshtBawbag · 31/10/2020 19:54

@LaurieFairyCake agree, ds1 14 got covid for attending school...

Vast majority of those with covid didn’t have parties, break rules etc... it’s part and partial of a virus.

Toilenstripes · 31/10/2020 19:54

My local spike was caused by university students returning. Most of them didn’t have parties, they just returned to their studies.

gjejgej · 31/10/2020 19:56

I don't wear a mask and I'm proud of it.

PostItJoyWeek · 31/10/2020 19:58

People here make it sound like it's a death sentence if someone over 65 catches it. The probability of death is still low. The vast majority recover just fine.

This is a pandemic of hyperbole.
