It doesn't mean that someone who contracts the virus is an idiot.
However, plenty of idiots are exacerbating the problem.
Masks are really only a small factor. Hand washing isn't as prevalent as it once was, there are countless door handles, keyboards, lift buttons and such that are being touched every day by hundreds of people - not to mention studies that show the virus can survive a number of hours on some surfaces, up to a number of days on others.
And we still don't fully understand how much of a factor kids are.
However, idiots abound, and they aren't helping.
In truth, I think the vast majority of the public are choosing to break rules at their own discretion. People 'doing their bit', but bending the rules to suit from time to time. It's absolutely understandable and predictable, but if 60 million people are cutting corners, it's going to have an effect.
When our own government is cutting corners (with utterly inadequate restrictions), it's going to have an even bigger effect.
In terms of trying to curb the virus, we're doing a pretty shoddy job.
In terms of getting the right balance between managing the virus and managing the economy, it's more complex.
The measures Boris announced tonight don't go anywhere near far enough to stop the spread. It's incompetent.
