Just posting here for traffic.
Three kids absolutely terrified after watching the new witches remake tonight, they are 4, 6 and 8 and love the original and the book so I didn't think twice about this. It's a pg too, but some of the things are really scary and weird too.
I enjoyed it but just a warning if you were planning this for the weekend, all 3 of my kids have already woken up with nightmares tonight and all in my bed!!

It's more scary than Angelica Houston - she was the stuff of nightmares?!

doadeer · 29/10/2020 21:39

Oops I've spelt her name very wrong

Anjelica Huston*

monkeysox · 29/10/2020 21:40

Anne Hathaway with evil Cheshire cat mouth. Scary as fuck. Yanbu

Angelfish2021 · 29/10/2020 21:41

It's the weirdness that's scary, there was a bit a girl turns into a chicken and she looks in the mirror and its like her face is melting. Yea Anne hathaway is pretty scary!

I'd never dream of showing this film to a 4 or 6 year old, nor the original for that matter. No wonder they had nightmares

mnahmnah · 29/10/2020 21:42

Thanks for the warning!

Suzi888 · 29/10/2020 21:42

Worth the skystore price then Smile

Justgorgeous · 29/10/2020 21:42

Wow! I wouldn’t have let those ages have watched the original let alone the remake. It is a scary film for children under 10 I think. Angelica Houston was absolutely brilliant though.

Angelfish2021 · 29/10/2020 21:43

It's a kids film based on a kids book!
As I said they love the book and original

@Suzi888 bargain so glad I bought it 😂

Thanks for the warning. I can still remember watching the original at a sleepover and being so scared my parents had to pick me up Grin

TeamLannister · 29/10/2020 21:45

My DD was really freaked out by Anne Hathaway's mouth as well. She's 10 and not normally such a wuss. Loved Octavia Spencer though, she's brilliant.

Waveysnail · 29/10/2020 21:46

My 7 and 9 year old watched original a couple days ago as we just finished the book and they really enjoyed it. They were bit disappointed that didnt follow the book and was a bit twee. So perhaps they might enjoy this more.

Daria32 · 29/10/2020 21:46

Thank you for the heads up!
My 2 are 6 and 8, and like yours, love both the book and the original film. We had planned a family film day tomorrow- think we’ll definitely give it a miss now! Just as an aside, any recommendations for non- nightmare inducing halloween ish themed films? 😊

NotABraveNewWorld · 29/10/2020 21:46

I can't believe they have remade this. The original was prefect. Some things should be left alone.

Angelfish2021 · 29/10/2020 21:47

I enjoyed it, the special affects are amazing!

OohKittens · 29/10/2020 21:47

It was awful not a patch on the original. Mine didn't find it scary but my youngest is almost 8.

Angelfish2021 · 29/10/2020 21:48

@Daria32 exactly why I've posted! I imagine alot of families had planned this for the weekend.
Hocus pocus? Ghost busters?

@doadeer what are you on about, you spelt it correctly first time?

Angelfish2021 · 29/10/2020 21:51

I agree I loved the original apart from the Hollywood ending, I like the ending as the boy staying a mouse so he will live as long as his gran

Watched it with my 4 and 6 year old. They also liked the original but said they liked the new one too. They did find parts of it a bit scary but they like a little scare and forgot about it straight after.

GingerandTilly · 29/10/2020 21:52

My 7 and 9 year olds have read the book and seen both films. They certainly found the special effects in the latest film scarier but understood that it wasn’t real and said they preferred this version to the original.

Goosefoot · 29/10/2020 21:53

@Angelfish2021

It's a kids film based on a kids book! As I said they love the book and original
Things people read are often less disturbing than the same things shown in a film. With adult shows they often have to down down the sex and violence in books for that reason.

I find you have to be carefully with kids films based on books because of it. Sometimes they tone it down so it works for the same age group as the book, and sometimes they don't.

SameToo · 29/10/2020 21:54

It’s shit. Maybe scarily shit.

ballsdeep · 29/10/2020 21:55

The original have me nightmares for years 😂 I couldn't cope with the masks being taken off and the pram down the hill! And the girl in the picture was just chilling!!
