Just posting here for traffic.
Three kids absolutely terrified after watching the new witches remake tonight, they are 4, 6 and 8 and love the original and the book so I didn't think twice about this. It's a pg too, but some of the things are really scary and weird too.
I enjoyed it but just a warning if you were planning this for the weekend, all 3 of my kids have already woken up with nightmares tonight and all in my bed!!

@JJsDinerWaffles yes and no! They definitely add in their own bits that are in neither the book or the original.

I agree the first film was too scary for little ones

Sweettea1 · 29/10/2020 22:13

My dd 5 loves the original one was gonna watch this one on sat might give it a miss now.

Justgorgeous · 29/10/2020 22:13

@ktsa4 It is Huston. I spelt it incorrectly too.

Angelfish2021 · 29/10/2020 22:13

I'm sure witches would be fine for a 12 year old.

Ltdannygreen · 29/10/2020 22:15

I just can’t bring myself to do it, I watched the trailer and straightway decided I’m not gonna watch it.... original always 💪🏼

BlueThistles · 29/10/2020 22:15

the trailer was scary enough OP.... thanks for the review .. it looks great Flowers

Angelfish2021 · 29/10/2020 22:15

I agree that the first film may be scary for some little kids, however mine love the original, they have seen it when it's been on at Xmas etc and they were all fine. So with that token, I didn't thibk twice about this one. But my kids all found this pretty scary.
Even if you had a little watch of the conference scene first and m add your own judgement, I'd say that's probably the scariest bit

@Daria32

Thank you for the heads up! My 2 are 6 and 8, and like yours, love both the book and the original film. We had planned a family film day tomorrow- think we’ll definitely give it a miss now! Just as an aside, any recommendations for non- nightmare inducing halloween ish themed films? 😊
Little Vampire! I love that film and can't wait to watch with my kids one day!
BirdsDoIt · 29/10/2020 22:17

We watched Howl’s Moving Castle yesterday and it was brilliant. Our 4 and 6 year old loved it and so did we. Magical but not terrifying - although the blobby creatures freaked me out a bit! Not straightforwardly Halloween but possible for your film afternoon @Daria32?

Einszwei · 29/10/2020 22:19

The original traumatised me as a kid.
I am not planning on watching the remake...hahaha

Daria32 · 29/10/2020 22:24

@Angelfish2021 @BirdsDoIt
Thank you both for the recommendations! Will watch one of those tomorrow instead! 😅

badg3r · 29/10/2020 22:28

Glad I saw this, we were just discussing it as an option for our six year old! Read this to DP, he says thanks for taking one for the team 😉

Quaagars · 29/10/2020 22:31

@Goosefoot
Things people read are often less disturbing than the same things shown in a film

Not for me, I must have a vivid imagination as I always found the book far scarier than the film which didn't bother me at all! Grin
The girl who disappeared and turned up in a painting?! Freaked me out for ages after lol.
Anjelica Houston taking her face off? Not so much lol

dublingirl66 · 29/10/2020 22:32

Oh and not to mention R D was anti Semetic

You know what this movie is based on!?

dublingirl66 · 29/10/2020 22:34

*semitic autocorrect 😡

AbsentmindedWoman · 29/10/2020 22:34

I tried watching the original a couple of years ago and it freaked me out, we had to put it off Grin

I want to see this new version though!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 29/10/2020 22:35

I’ll just PM you all a photo of yours truly. It’ll soon scare the kids. WinkGrin

NeonGenesis · 29/10/2020 22:41

I probably wouldn't think much of showing the original to younger kids. I suppose it depends on the kids.

I was allowed to watch pretty much anything from a very young age though - I sometimes look back on stuff and raise an eyebrow at my DM's choice... Rock Horror Picture Show for a 3 year old?! Original film adaption of Stephen King's IT at 4? Good grief mum!

Toothsil · 29/10/2020 22:43

We have just watched it tonight with our 10.5 year old. She loved it but I think a couple of years ago she'd have been terrified!

Purpleice · 29/10/2020 22:45

Recommending kiki’s Delivery Service for a good but not scary witch film.

Igotthemheavyboobs · 29/10/2020 22:50

The original scared the crap out of me as a child, the idea of it still freaks me out.

I would be more likely to let DS watch The Exorcist 😂 (joke, before I am jumped on)
