Just posting here for traffic.
Three kids absolutely terrified after watching the new witches remake tonight, they are 4, 6 and 8 and love the original and the book so I didn't think twice about this. It's a pg too, but some of the things are really scary and weird too.
I enjoyed it but just a warning if you were planning this for the weekend, all 3 of my kids have already woken up with nightmares tonight and all in my bed!!

I was a 'spooky' child but the real face creeped me out as a child, its a very creepy film i think, is the book much scarier?

Thank you for the heads up!
My 2 are 6 and 8, and like yours, love both the book and the original film. We had planned a family film day tomorrow- think we’ll definitely give it a miss now! Just as an aside, any recommendations for non- nightmare inducing halloween ish themed films? 😊

The Nightmare Before Christmas!

ShrimpSymphony · 30/10/2020 00:17

I’m still creeped out by the original as a child and have no intention of watching the remake at nearly 40

Thewiseoneincognito · 30/10/2020 00:39

Agree with others, a bit of an own goal OP letting young children (under 10) watch this, definitely not suitable for a 4 year old. They’ll be having nightmares for weeks.

PG should be for older children. Stick with the U ratings.

doadeer · 30/10/2020 07:47
@doadeer what are you on about, you spelt it correctly first time?
Her name is spelt like that
m.imdb.com/name/nm0001378/

Nonamesavail · 30/10/2020 07:48

I saw it was pg and thought my 7yr old may like it but going to find something else now+

Jelly0naplate · 30/10/2020 07:55

Holiday club showed this to the 6/7+ plus group the other day. I ended up with with 6 year old (7 in a few weeks) in our bed that night with nightmares. Less than impressed with holiday club!

thebabewiththepower · 30/10/2020 08:04

We watched it last night and I think it should be a 12A. I thought it was properly scary. My 12 year old was fine but my 8 year old found it scary (as did I) and said she didn’t want to go to sleep as she knew she’d dream about witches. I had my doubts to start with as I remember being petrified after reading the book as a child! (And later watching the film). Quite enjoyed it though!

TheFuckingDogs · 30/10/2020 08:10

Never mind the film I’m scared of the bloody price tag - £15 to RENT it on amazon prime!
I’m always happy to pay a bit to rent films at home cause still cheaper than a trip to the cinema but that’s mental

TildaTurnip · 30/10/2020 08:16

Thanks for the heads up! Not sure why you’re getting all the harsh comments given you came on here to let others know what it was like. No good deed goes unpunished and all that.

Ohdoleavemealone · 30/10/2020 08:31

My kids are 5 and 8. 5 yr old a bit creeped out but fine afterwards. 8 yr old fine at the time but couldn't sleep due to "the smile".

Ohdoleavemealone · 30/10/2020 08:32

@TheFuckingDogs It is on PLEX for free

thegreenlight · 30/10/2020 08:36

We watched the original last weekend - 7 year old totally not phased by the grand high witch or the horrid transformation scenes, but balled his eyes out and screamed when they pushed the pram down the hill Confused he loves scary things but this obviously tapped into his psyche in a way he didn’t like! In his defence he does have a little brother!

MrsJunglelow · 30/10/2020 08:38

I haven’t watched it but I found the original scary enough!
Sometimes the ratings are ridiculous, watership down for instance, used to be rated U, maybe still is and has traumatised generations.
The black cauldron aswell I found quite svary advice a young child

Nousernameforme · 30/10/2020 08:39

Does the remake still have the bit with the girl trapped in the picture. I'm thinking about watching it myself. Older kids too old and cool younger one will find it too scary. :(

MeridianB · 30/10/2020 08:42

Thanks for the heads up. We watched the trailer last and DC decided no thanks. They haven’t seen the Angelica Houston version as I always thought the witches’ real faces were super scary, so if this is worse, we have a long wait!

TweeBree · 30/10/2020 08:47

Casper is a nice easy film.

Seconding this. Family favourite.

The shining Grin

Probably less scary lol 😂

squirrelpumpkin · 30/10/2020 08:47

My DC 11 & 10 were terrified so we stopped watching. Will stick with Hocus Pocus instead tomorrow night!

N0ManJan · 30/10/2020 08:47

I think the original film was very well done, there was enough there to be scared and creeped out by the grand high witch but not that you were completely terrified. A lot of the CGI in the new film was unnecessary.

Let’s not even go there with Anne Hathaways accent Grin

Bitbusyattheminute · 30/10/2020 08:53

Hotel transylvania is much loved by the 8 yr old. And there are 3 of them.
Addams family has been fun this week. As has corpse bride and frankenweenie. Tbh, i find stop motion stuff v creepy.

There was a cracking documentary by Mark Kermode repeated on BBC 4 last night about horror. Thought ds 11 might like it, but it was a bit too scary in the end.
