looking for some inspiration. Ideally something a bit different. Also if I get some Christmas present inspiration for DM/MIL then that would be ideal 😁
Right now I wear Tom Ford Black Orchid

Balmain Ivoire - that brings back memories - I wore it for my wedding day 37 years ago.

FreshfieldsGal · 29/10/2020 21:53

Bond no9 Bleecker Street, also Astor Place. Beautiful, remind me of NY and the bottles look fab on my dressing table.

Wish Nina Ricci would bring back Deci Dela, that was a favourite. I also love Sublime by Patou, reminds me of my DM.

Kiehl’s Original Musk Blend No.1 (it’s a unisex fragrance)

Chanel Chance and Allure

Gucci Envy (discontinued ☹️ )

Marc Jacobs by March Jacobs. I also liked the Blush in this range with had also been discontinued

Lumiere Original by Rochas another discontinued fragrance

LakieLady · 29/10/2020 22:07

Guerlain's Mitsouko.

I always end up with perfumes that were formulated aeons ago because most modern perfumes smell rank on me.

The fresh/floral ones smell like tomcat's piss after I've been wearing them for an hour or so and the more pungent floral ones smell like some disgusting synthetic flavouring, like you get in cheap sweets.

Someone at work wore Flowerbomb not long after it came out and it smelt lovely on her, but when I tried it in a shop it smelt repulsive on me after a while - really sickly sweet.

Even sticking to old scents isn't foolproof, Lanvin's Arpege was one of my favourites but they must have changed it as it smells synthetic to me now.

I see a few have mentioned my no 1 favourite, Dune. I fell in love with it at 18, and a kind friend of my mum's bought me it & matching body lotion for my 18th. I was bowled over. For many years, courtesy of my dad, who travelled a lot, I splashed it on my liberally, as he bought me a bottle every time he was away.

When he retired & then became ill, he wasn't able to get it for me. I then realised how expensive it was! (It's about €110 for 100ml). He died in 2018, and I buy Dune when I can, furiously saving Boots points usually. I always think of him, and my mum's lovely friend, now also deceased, who bought me my first bottle, when I wear it 😌

I also wear Chanel Noir, which I love too.

Was going to say L’interdit. Also Mon Guerlin, Chanel 19 and a flat bottle by I think Estée Lauder that escapes me for now....

Fidji by Guy Laroche.
I love this too. I have some that was at my late mother's house, but I don't remember her wearing it.

It dates back to about 1978 (I can tell by the fact that it was bought in Germany and my father worked in Hamburg from 1972-80) and I thought it had probably been discontinued by now. I'll have to try and find some and see if it's still the same.

happymummy12345 · 29/10/2020 22:48

Winter is Jo Malone Amber and lavender or dark amber and ginger lily
Spring is Jo Malone basil and neroli
Early summer Peony and Blush suede
Mid summer is Lime Basil and Mandarin
Autumn is Blackberry and Bay

I may have a thing for Jo Malone!

AaronCardigan · 29/10/2020 23:04

Givenchy Hot Couture - I've never smelt another one like it. Has anybody else?

wouldntmindbeingmrsw · 29/10/2020 23:06

Chanel Allure. I have worn it for years. Never got bored of it.

Fairyfalls · 29/10/2020 23:18

I have a sample size tester of Alaia it's empty now but I smell that tester every day! Love the scent and can see it has been mentioned before. One day I will own a bottle!

terrelontane · 29/10/2020 23:19

Byredo, Slow dance
Maison Margiela, Jazz club

HollaHolla · 29/10/2020 23:25

Chloe signature. It’s pricy, but it lasts. I save up Boots points, or buy Duty Free!

My day to day one is Cerrutti 1887 (I think that’s the number!). I’ve worn it for over 20 years now. My first serious boyfriend bought me it, and it’s far out lasted him! 🤣 I did bump into him a few years ago, and weirdly, he said whenever he smells it, he still thinks of me......

A lot of Dior - Dune, Diorella (for an evening out) and Diorissimo. This last the first perfume ever given to me as a gift by my grandfather, A lovely light sent. I also like Dior Homme.
Nohiba by Ecoudray, said to be a favourite of Josephine Baker ( another evening scent
Fracas by Robert Piquet
Also a fan of Aromatics elixir.
Rose water by Crabtree & Evelyn if you want a very straightforward rose scent
I too loved Gucci Envy - I wish they would bring it back.
Ditto 4711 - my fan wore this!

Moanranger · 29/10/2020 23:33

MountainDweller · 30/10/2020 00:06

I'm a bit fickle with perfume - i like variety! But maybe we have similar tastes... I like Black Orchid too - one of my favourites, though I don't use it that often as it's an evening perfume for me.
You might like Jo Loves Red Truffle 21 which is also quite strong and earthy.
Or Le Labo Black Tea 29 ( got in an advent calendar, don't think I'd ever afford it!)
Or Jo Malone English Oak and Hazelnut.
Lighter scents I like are Jo Malone Wood sage and Sea salt (the body creme is gorgeous too - a nice present!) and BlackBerry and Bay; L'Occitane Pamplemousse et Rhubarb; Jo Loves Pomello; and Hermes Un jardin sur le Nil (the last two are summer ones for me).
Might have to spray myself with something nice before I go to sleep now!
