To have let kitchen go because Tesco's do not come in anymore

lazyfecker · 27/10/2020 17:27

Just been cleaning the kitchen it is an absolute pit - when Tesco's used to bring the shopping right into the kitchen it forced me to do a little cleanup every week but that has been not been happening for months😝

Also please for the love of God could someone tell me about an easy way to clean up a bin? or a way of holding my rubbish in an easier receptacle than most pedal bins?

My current Adidas pedal bin is soaking in the bath with half a bottle of L'Oreal Dream Lengths shampoo the shampoo was hopeless for my hair let's hope it does a better job of cleaning the bin!!!!! It certainly smells goodGrin

@PeskyRooks

Anything manky that needs cleaning in my house I take the moominmamma approach and put it on the lawn and wait for it to get rained on.

90 MINUTES A DAY???????
Feck that!

TeamLucille · 28/10/2020 20:17

90 minutes a day sounds about right? What's so shocking?

That's 1 hour first thing in the morning, 5 mornings a week, and half an hour in the evening to tidy up quickly and sort the kitchen with cooking and cleaning after.

It means no forever running after the housework, a house always visitor ready (minus kids toys but they take minutes to put away), weekends chore free.

When you include laundry and everything, it's pretty efficient frankly.

SuzieCarmichael · 28/10/2020 20:27

The OP is talking about cleaning specifically. Not all housework - laundry and suchlike. Though even then 90 minutes a day is steep.

TeamLucille · 28/10/2020 20:31

Unless you have a weekly cleaner, still sounds about right for an average size house.

If you have to catch up, you can triple that until the house is back to shape!

@DryRoastPeanut

I wipe both sections of my Joseph Joseph Bin out with a cloth and my favourite zoflora. (This week its Rose Noir) Blaming sluttiness on the Tesco man not coming in is beyond lazy. Cleaning is your responsibility, and yes I get that it’s not for everyone. Some people are creative but not tidy. But please don’t try to pass the buck, just admit you’re a scruff.

Remember the old adage, how do you eat an elephant? One bute at a time.
So, do all your floors one day or do your kitchen on Monday and Friday, sitting room on Tuesday, ironing on Wednesday, bedrooms on Thursday, strip beds and clean bathrooms on Friday. It will take you 90 minutes each day once you’re on track. But don’t blame Tesco.

Sluttiness?

Really?

Are men who don't clean 'sluts'?

meghansparkles · 28/10/2020 20:35

Yes come on OP,

"just admit you’re a scruff"

DryRoastPeanut is here to shame you for not being exactly like they are.

Wonderful.

@lazyfecker I have to applaud you for this thread. You have been such a gracious good humoured sport, and I think you sound delightful. I bet the Tesco man used to enjoy coming to your house just to pass the time of day with you.
I might even wipe down the front of my kitchen cupboards in your honour.
Good luck with it all.

I can't get over 90 minutes a day cleaning.

Seriously, are people running through their homes caked in mud? Halloween Confused

TeamLucille · 29/10/2020 00:24

I can't get over 90 minutes a day cleaning.

why is that any weirder than someone spending their entire Saturday, or worst weekend cleaning?

In an ideal world, it would take less time, but I prefer doing a bit everyday and have a house as I like it.

Because it is 10.5 hours per week unpaid work and perhaps we should be examining the heavy bias on this thread that these unpaid 10.5 hours should be worked by women?

Confused

where did anyone say it had to be done by women?!?

notangelinajolie · 29/10/2020 00:37
  1. I had no idea Tesco used to bring your shopping inside. I don't think my delivery man has had the right training because Covid or not he has always dumped his big plastic boxes on the door step for me to unload.
  2. No bins allowed in my house.
lazyfecker · 29/10/2020 07:49

Hats off to those of you who have managed to do away with bins altogether!

I don't think I'd be able to go that far myself, because we live in a COLD, WET part of the country and I can't keep opening my back door to put rubbish out a bin there. The heating bill! Plus our back door doesn't come off our kitchen, it comes off our living room.

Thisismylife1 · 29/10/2020 07:58

I just always get my shopping left at the door Confused

lazyfecker · 29/10/2020 08:16

Our Tesco man )sometimes woman) always brought it into the kitchen pre-COVID and that was after bringing it up a flight of steps. I live on a very small friendly place so maybe it's a quirk of the area rather than Tesco policy. I thought I had seen somewhere they "deliver to your fridge"?

@WhoUsedMyName

I thought exactly this Adidas make bins ?Confused I'm so confused. Some of you lot are right mingers I don't understand how your bins get so dirty. Change the bag everyday and wash out with zoflora once a week I'm blown. But the threads been funny so I forgive you for your slap dash hazardous bin issues

Not all work has to be paid! Everyone (not just women) needs to maintain their living environment

lazyfecker · 29/10/2020 08:36

Can't see me ever spending nearly 11 hours a week cleaning!!! Shock

If I start doing 1/2 hour a day that would be a huge improvement.

A whole DAY a week devoted to cleaning?! Whoah!

OP, I think I love you.

Our house is so much worse now I’m not having a quick clean up because friends are coming over, or Mr/Ms Sainsbury’s is due.

I’m on day 4 of “one cupboard per day” sorting out to tackle the chaos in the kitchen. It’s quite cathartic.

As a fellow slattern, one approach that has worked for me is to put an album on, and do housework while singing along. When the album stops, so do I.

The album is a great strategy 😂

It is a cathartic feeling to get something done though.

I need my own routines now that I can't rely on Tesco. All they can do for me now is deliver cleaning products...

I am ageing and my grip is not what it was. I can't hold a scourer or sponge long enough other than to give surfaces a quick wipe. I drop things constantly onto the kitchen floor. It drives me MAD and my kitchen could be a lot cleaner. It's not terrible but could do with a proper scrub.

I often wonder how on earth even the cleanest of us will manage when we are elderly. I certainly can't afford a cleaner!

I wonder if a 'Team Lazyfecker' T-shirt might be in order....

Getting old is a right pain isn't it, although the grinding sounds my knees make in the morning seems to entertain the cat!
