To have let kitchen go because Tesco's do not come in anymore

lazyfecker · 27/10/2020 17:27

Just been cleaning the kitchen it is an absolute pit - when Tesco's used to bring the shopping right into the kitchen it forced me to do a little cleanup every week but that has been not been happening for months😝

Also please for the love of God could someone tell me about an easy way to clean up a bin? or a way of holding my rubbish in an easier receptacle than most pedal bins?

My current Adidas pedal bin is soaking in the bath with half a bottle of L'Oreal Dream Lengths shampoo the shampoo was hopeless for my hair let's hope it does a better job of cleaning the bin!!!!! It certainly smells goodGrin

Thanks OP, you inspired me and the house has all been vacuumed, the hard floors scrubbed, bathrooms cleaned and a good tidy up. I actually feel much better for it.

Go you! 🏆 it does feel good to have it done.

I will be scrubbing kitchen floor and wiping down cabinet fronts and appliances later when I've finished with WFH.

Will look for a refuse solution online thanks to suggestions here.

Fun times ahead for meGrin

@teddyclown

We have one of these: www.betterbin.co.uk/ Basically, it's a hole in the kitchen worktop with a plastic surround and lid to enable a bin bag to be suspended beneath. I think we're on our third since the early '90s because eventually the plastic surround breaks. Wouldn't have anything else. Simples.
Oh - that looks like a tiny toilet.
CounsellorTroi · 28/10/2020 10:30

We don’t have a kitchen bin. All food waste goes in the food bag in the caddy under the sink, all other non recyclable waste goes into a plastic carrier bag which sits on the side of the draining board, this bag eventually goes into a black refuse bag which goes into the black wheelie bin when it goes out.

HBGKC · 28/10/2020 12:32

@Zagziggirl thanks - I wonder if I got a dud lot as they're deffo not easy to remove, no matter what I do to them!

lazyfecker · 28/10/2020 12:36

Well that's my appliances wiped down I really scrubbed the glass both sides on the washing machine and wipe down the inside of the front door

of course this is all random stuff that I just felt like doing today what I need is a routine as I cannot just fliparound cleaning what I feel like doing on any given day

Back to FLYlady I guess!

Dear lord, @lazyfecker I don't believe I've ever done that. Please change your user name.

SBTLove · 28/10/2020 13:33

I have three of these, the general waste has a bin liner, if you rinse out your recycling you won’t have ‘bin juice’, I’ve also got a small counter top caddy for food waste with a bag in it, minimise any chance for mess 😉

@Zeebeezee
Oh they do, my DP is a tradesman and some houses have made him 🤢 they are that filthy and cluttered with mess.

That's my problem - perfectionist tendencies on the rare occasion I do get round to stuff. Then I'm wiped out and can't face it again for ages.

We only have a small bin, like wastepaper basket size. We use bin liners, so don't really get bin juice, plus peelings etc go in the compost and a lot of food waste goes in the dog.

Because it's small it's easy to plonk it in the sink and give it a scrub with hot water and some washing up liquid. It it's unusually minging, it gets attacked with Cif. We have an old washing up brush that has now been relegated to cleaning really dirty stuff.

We seem to be a pretty low waste household though. Most weeks it's only one small bag.

I wipe both sections of my Joseph Joseph Bin out with a cloth and my favourite zoflora. (This week its Rose Noir)
Blaming sluttiness on the Tesco man not coming in is beyond lazy. Cleaning is your responsibility, and yes I get that it’s not for everyone. Some people are creative but not tidy. But please don’t try to pass the buck, just admit you’re a scruff.

Remember the old adage, how do you eat an elephant? One bute at a time.
So, do all your floors one day or do your kitchen on Monday and Friday, sitting room on Tuesday, ironing on Wednesday, bedrooms on Thursday, strip beds and clean bathrooms on Friday. It will take you 90 minutes each day once you’re on track. But don’t blame Tesco.

Maireas · 28/10/2020 14:54

lazyfeckerI once had a washing machine repair man come round. He asked me how often I gave it a deep clean and how often I rinsed out the filter. Moi - "I'm sorry I don't understand"

Maireas · 28/10/2020 14:55

@DryRoastPeanut - I need you in my life. Can you draw me up a wallchart please?

Oh I wasn't BLAMING him Grin

As you will see from my username I'm pretty open about myself.

I was trying to explain that given I am a scruff, sometimes having an outside force (such as a visitor) can help me get my arse in gear.

I realise where the responsibility lies and am in no way holding anyone else responsible. Heck, I don't even blame my husband and he lives here!

I'm not sure I know how to do that either Grin I do run one of those Dettol washing machine cleaner things through it after I've washed the dog's bedding...

90 minutes cleaning a day!! ShockShockShock

I'm all for doing a little bit every day, but an hour and half?! Nooo way!

Maireas · 28/10/2020 15:45

Maybe she lives in Blenheim Palace 😂 😂

Hobnobsandbroomstick · 28/10/2020 15:47

@lazyfecker

I follow the organised mum method, have the app but the lists are on her blog for free. I have customized her plan quite a lot and don't spend more than 20 minutes a day on it, my boyfriend also does it so works out at about 30 minutes a day in total. Setting a timer for 10 minutes really helps when I feel unmotivated, and so do her playlists on spotify.

Anything manky that needs cleaning in my house I take the moominmamma approach and put it on the lawn and wait for it to get rained on.

Maireas · 28/10/2020 16:41

Love it
