To have let kitchen go because Tesco's do not come in anymore

lazyfecker · 27/10/2020 17:27

Just been cleaning the kitchen it is an absolute pit - when Tesco's used to bring the shopping right into the kitchen it forced me to do a little cleanup every week but that has been not been happening for months😝

Also please for the love of God could someone tell me about an easy way to clean up a bin? or a way of holding my rubbish in an easier receptacle than most pedal bins?

My current Adidas pedal bin is soaking in the bath with half a bottle of L'Oreal Dream Lengths shampoo the shampoo was hopeless for my hair let's hope it does a better job of cleaning the bin!!!!! It certainly smells goodGrin

And washing a bin in a rejected human shampoo.....

It is pretty bad I must admit!

When we were in a flat we didn’t have separate food waste and the bin was always super gross because it all went in there. A separate food waste caddy (with a nice secure lid) is much easier to keep clean than a whole bin imo.

I always had access to communal bins in flats, so never kept a bag for more than 24 hours indoors. Not sure you can dispose of food waste bags in similar containers. not all blocks of flats have communal food caddies.

In all seriousness tho op,of you can't clean it properly cos of your health and lifting the chairs up and down is too much work, what is your husband's excuse m

Adidas do bins? Are you sure you haven't been putting your rubbish in an old trainer? I can imagine that would get a bit skanky!

I swear I have ADHD I have thought that for some time actually! I keep starting FLY lady but never followed through
Yes me too, both of my DC do well DD has ADD. It still isn't an excuse granted it is harder to organise yourself. I use music otherwise I'll sit down half way through a task, I do things in 5's it's tough but I manage by following a schedule.

Penicillin could come in very handy at the moment That is vile.
I hope there isn't DC living with you.

OP... you are my kind of person! 🤣

I recently decided to pour some hot water and some cleaning detergent of some sort into our bin and let it soak for a bit, like I used to do with our old one, before emptying it outside and rinsing it at the outside tap. However, as soon as I had poured the water in, I saw a large puddle forming on the kitchen floor....the new bin is clearly not watertight 🤦🏼‍♀️ Luckily I hadn't put much water in at this point!! Now I just spray some fabulousa inside it every time I change the bag, and wipe around the outside, lid etc before giving the outside a spray.

Yes I am determined to get organised I have been saying that for years of course!

The place is not THAT dirty it is not Kim & Aggie or anything that would get me on the TV don't worryWink

But put it this way I would not want unexpected visitors dropping in either!

I live in a very old house which always has that slightly tatty look I think - not like the modern house I lived in 30 years ago

anyway when I have things I am finding difficult to clean I should post on the housekeeping thread and get some tips instead I just feel defeated and hopeless that no matter how much I clean something it will not look much better

I spray my cheap plastic bin with bleach and wipe it off with kitchen roll or a cloth, clean the crevices, leave it to dry completely, put a new bag in, lid on. All clean and tidy. The trick is to not overfill the bugger or split the bag. No need to immerse it or hose it, last time I did that I broke the bin and can't get another one like it, perfect bin, the lid lifted right up so didn't get mucky and it was the right size, can only get them in huge now.

goldenharvest · 27/10/2020 18:28

I was on your side when you said you had a horse as livestock always come before kitchens, but no, it was a typo!

I always use bin liners and DH empties them regularly(when told). A wipe round with bleach weekly does it

lazyfecker · 27/10/2020 18:28

I avoid all sprays now because of my lungs

That is interesting - whenever I watch cleaning programs the women are always immersing the bins! I am probably making the mistake of trying to go from a slob to an extreme cleaner I just need to find a sensible middle way as you suggest

Are use good quality binliners Brabantia - I think they have been getting overfilled and sometimes gravy has been spilt and not wiped immediately

He would totally do it if I asked him but he works longer hours than me and does all the decorating and handiwork and putting out the rubbish as it is

I would really like to do most of the cleaning if I can - It is just that a lot of cleaning seems so physical! I also wish I lived in a bungalow Smile

I have an impeccably tidy friend who comes to visit for a coffee occasionally, and always inspires me to raise my cleaning game. Luckily now social distancing is the thing I can confine her to the one room in the house where we can sit at a distance, and keep her out of my very small and also not entirely clean kitchen.

2bazookas · 27/10/2020 18:34

I use a plastic liner bag in the bin,

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 27/10/2020 18:35

Hope your bin was worth it OP 😉

lazyfecker · 27/10/2020 18:35

@ancientgran

I feel like that about having visitors, it always makes me get off my behind and blitz the house, haven't had a visitor in months so the house is a tip.

I used to know someone who'd deliberately start an argument with her husband if the house was a mess. They'd yell at each other, he'd storm out to the pub (as she was being unreasonable and itching for a fight) and she reckoned she could do the house top to bottom in a couple of hours on the adrenaline rush. Then they'd live in harmony for a couple of months till she decided the house needed a blitz.....

Now that is an angle I have never tried!!Grin

@ClementineWoolysocks

You haven't cleaned your kitchen for months? Bloody hell that's gross. It's not difficult to clean down worktops and sink area every day and cupboard fronts a couple of times a week. Cleaning often means it's not such a big job and only takes minutes.
You are right of course little and often is the way to go I need to get back to FLY lady!

@Enough4me

I only read the full thread to find out the name of your horse...gutted Halloween Hmm
If I DID have a horse it would be a pantomime horse - Much like the pantomime cleaning my house is turning out to be!
