Crash! Boom! Bang! - Car accident, who's at fault?

Had a car accident earlier. Wondering what your thoughts are.

Car A had slowed down to turn into the first road on the right and was indicating.

Car B was turning left .

Not unusual to have a steady stream of traffic (lights further up the road.

Car A began turning. Car B ploughed into the side of Car A. Both drivers accusing the other. Both vehicles I'd think are write-offs.

Obligatory drawing - yes, I'm shit at drawing!

Car A

Depends if A had crossed the lines on the middle of the road before B left the road.

hula008 · 26/10/2020 16:39

My understanding would be that Car B is at fault - moving from a side road to a main road

TheQueef · 26/10/2020 16:39

Car B.
Major road takes priority over GW.

DontTouchTheMoustache · 26/10/2020 16:39

Car B

Michaelbaubles · 26/10/2020 16:39

Car A had right of way, surely? Car B should not have begun their manoeuvre until the road was clear. But I can’t see how it happened if Car B was turning left? They shouldn’t have been near Car A?

Michaelbaubles · 26/10/2020 16:40

Sorry, I see now, I confused my left and right 🤦🏼‍♀️ so still definitely Car B at fault.

5foot5 · 26/10/2020 16:40

Car B

AryaStarkWolf · 26/10/2020 16:40

Yes if Car A is on the major road then Car B is at fault

CuppaZa · 26/10/2020 16:41

Car B is at fault

Enough4me · 26/10/2020 16:41

Knock for knock situation?

LordEmsworth · 26/10/2020 16:41

Front of car B hit side of car A? Definitely B's fault. Shouldn't be pulling out without looking and understanding what's going on in the road, so should have seen car A and not tried to beat it.

AryaStarkWolf · 26/10/2020 16:43

@Enough4me

Knock for knock situation?
No it wouldn't be if Car A is on the major road which looks to be the case, Car A has right of way over someone trying to get on to the major road
Bringmewineandcake · 26/10/2020 16:43

Car B for emerging from a minor road into the major road when it wasn't safe to do so.

RunBackwards · 26/10/2020 16:44

B is at fault. There's no such thing as knock for knock.

AriettyHomily · 26/10/2020 16:44

B

IAintentDead · 26/10/2020 16:45

In my understanding the driver of car b is at fault as they were joining from a side road. I also think that the person going into the side of the car is more at fault as they obviously reached the spot later.

I suspect insurance will say 50/50.

PawPawNoodle · 26/10/2020 16:47

If B had emerged and were therefore on the major road prior to A turning then surely they'd then have right of way over A at the point of reaching the second road?

Oysterbabe · 26/10/2020 16:47

I assume Car B is going to just say that they were correctly proceeding and Car A turned across their path.

LimaFoxtrotCharlie · 26/10/2020 16:48

Depends. Was car A cutting the corner? Car B should have been able to turn left without cutting across car A, unless car A was cutting the corner

Ohtherewearethen · 26/10/2020 16:49

Car B seems to be at fault as it appears they are joining the carriageway from a minor road.

Bargebill19 · 26/10/2020 16:49

B

SoupDragon · 26/10/2020 16:49

Who began the manoeuvre first? If Car B had emerged onto the main road from their side road before Car A tried to turn into the other side road then I would have thought it was A's fault as B was already on the main road.

How close are the two side roads?

It's definitely one I'd leave up to the insurance companies to fight over!

SoupDragon · 26/10/2020 16:50

They are two different side roads. It took me a while to work that one out!
Windyone · 26/10/2020 16:50

Car B

megletthesecond · 26/10/2020 16:50

Car B probably. Looks like A had right of way.
