Crash! Boom! Bang! - Car accident, who's at fault?

Had a car accident earlier. Wondering what your thoughts are.

Car A had slowed down to turn into the first road on the right and was indicating.

Car B was turning left .

Not unusual to have a steady stream of traffic (lights further up the road.

Car A began turning. Car B ploughed into the side of Car A. Both drivers accusing the other. Both vehicles I'd think are write-offs.

Obligatory drawing - yes, I'm shit at drawing!

Car A

Maybe car B thought car A was intending to turn into the road he was leaving. I've seen near misses at a similar junction locally.

Especially as OP had been indicating for 50m and still hadn't stopped.

@Blueberries0112

If you say so. Doesn't change my mind because she wants me feel certain way.

I never thought other countries drive like US. I always thought they had their own rules on the road. I wasn't going to assume without checking. And I never cared how people drive because I don't care for driving myself. Although I have been driving for over 30 years

How is that bullying? Making the comment that most people would know that some other countries drive on the other side of the road is fairly basic knowledge is not bullying.

Very good point! Also Op says B was stationary. Umm why would B be stationary if the road was clear? B would have checked his speed, slowed, stopped momentarily and then joined the main carriageway, B would only be stationary if another car approached and drove past B. But it cant have done or it would have hit A instead of B. Makes sense?

Perfect sense!

Something doesn't add up. 🤔🤔 < Twizzles Poirot-style 'tache! >

@vanillandhoney

I'm ok, bit of whiplash and back pain.

I thought you had broken bones and a crushed hand with a load of fractures and breaks?

As my Dad used to say, you need a good memory if you're going to tell fibs.

I'm surprised they didn't just read all of their own posts! 🤷‍♀️🤔😂

Sorry for lack of updates. Insurance, car dealer trips, hire car, leasing company

I'm sure the hire car and car dealer trips were needed with a broken leg and wrist Wink

TurquoiseDress · 30/10/2020 20:02

At first glance I'd say car B is at fault

Floralnomad · 30/10/2020 20:08

What’s happened to the broken leg and multiple hand fractures , if this crash actually happened at all it was probably caused by the mountain of bullshit in the road obscuring the view of both drivers .

nolovelost · 31/10/2020 16:55

How strange...must have been very bored to make something like that up?

Bazinga007 · 01/11/2020 03:19

Car A is at fault, as car B must have been on the main carriage way for a collision to happen.

SarahSinuses · 01/11/2020 06:49

From the last more detailed update, car A is at fault as car B was on the main road already. Car B shouldn't have been driving so fast though and should have anticipated the error car A was going to make. Therefore both are at fault but mainly car A.

NoWordForFluffy · 01/11/2020 07:21

If Car B was within the speed limit, then there's no 'so fast' about it. Speed, in and of itself, isn't negligent; inappropriate speed is.

Is it inappropriate to get up to the speed limit when you pull into a road? Probably not.

To spin A, B had some cracking acceleration in 3m after he allegedly came from a standing start. I'm still not convinced B turned the corner; I think he's already been established on the main road and A hasn't seen him, as she's looking at C coming out of the junction. Hence his speed / the damage assuming this isn't all a fairy story.

@alexdgr8

yes, we drive on the right side of the road in the UK, which is the left. like other civilised countries, eg japan, india, australia, NZ, many parts of southern and east Africa, the Caribbean, pakistan, bhutan, bangladesh, indonesia, ...
This is because most people are right handed so would carry their sword on their left. And if you mount a horse carry a sword on your left you do so from the horse’s left. So in order not to stand in the middle of the road to do this the horse facing the direction of travel would be positioned on the left-hand side of the road.
WhereverIGoddamnLike · 01/11/2020 23:28

@Aesopfable

It waant about mounting horses. It was so their right hand was closest to the people coming the opposite way, so they could easily attack them with a sword or defend themselves since you didnt know who you might come upon. Same theory as the capital staircase orientation.

Also, when other countries like the US started using massive wagons pulled by multiple horses, the driver didnt have a seat. They sat on the back left horse, so their whip hand (right hand) could easily whip all the other horses. Sitting on the back left horse made it hard to see (like driving an American car on our roads) so countries started changing to drive on the right. Britain never really used those huge wagons. We used smaller carts with a seat, and the driver would sit towards the right so he could hold the reigns centrally in the left hand and keep the right hand free for whips etc.
