I'll start.

Shark vacuum cleaner.
I should have got another Miele. The Shark is just another average sucker upper.

A Dualit toaster.
After years of cheap toasters that starts off great but soon end up toasting one side more than the other, I listened to the years of recommendations on MN and spend £140 on an effing Dualit toaster just for it to do exactly what allllllll the other toasters do. The only difference is, is that it looks a tiny bit better and as though I have stupid money to throw at ridiculous items like toasters. Never again.

Anyone else?

What other things are always recommended by other Mumsnetters that actually turn out to be a bit shit?

I love my dualit toaster. Perhaps yours is faulty I would send it back if not happy. That's too much to pay for inadequate toast!

MiniMum97 · 24/10/2020 11:35
@PuppyMonkey I’m here in my 30GG right now. It’s unhooked and has been since about 10:30 this am. Just kind of wearing it like a hammock. Not sure that’s what was intended
😂😂😂😂😂

Mrsfussypants1 · 24/10/2020 11:47

FFS shaving subscription. Seemed like a fab idea, but I spent this summer in trousers after ripping my legs to bits and wasn't much fun trying to cancel the gloody thing either.
But I love my Shark, I'm a big hair shedder as are the cats and it has an irreplaceable place in my home. I bought the XL pet hair black and rose gold and I'll admit to polishing its exterior, just dont tell my friends.

AintOverUntilTheCatLadySings · 24/10/2020 12:34

@Wasail

Moon cup. MN goes on and on about these shitty, fiddly, messy things and they don’t work!
I had to remove mine with salad tongs and a teaspoon
malificent7 · 24/10/2020 12:41

Before i shell out on Seasalt Janelle coat can someone tell me if they are worth 150 quid?
I gave up on my slow cooker....was always worried about fires.

paddingtonbear1 · 24/10/2020 12:41

@TheSockMonster we have a larder cupboard very similar to in your pic, in our new kitchen. We love ours, it's fab. Would definitely recommend.

HooverWhenTheCoastIsClear · 24/10/2020 12:49

@StrictlyAFemaleFemale

Hair removing cream down the drain does not clear the hair.

Gilmore Girls isnt wonderful. I watched 3 seasons thinking this must be the episode where it gets good. One whiny selfcentered adult who needs to grow the fuck up and learn to speak rather than quip.

Amen sister. Gilmore fucking girls. I'm just didn't get it. It was like a really self indulgent monotonous monologue between the characters. Excruciating.
HazelWong · 24/10/2020 13:07

Toast clothes - I tried ordering some but they made me look like a bag lady.

On slow cooker - it's great for mulled wine!

QuestionableMouse · 24/10/2020 13:19

@Gwenhwyfar

"I also bought one of those springy hair removers. Fuck me, it was the most painful thing I've ever done to myself. "

I actually like that and disagree with you about the Korean towels.
It hurts less and less as you get used to it, same as plucking your eyebrows. Cheap and easy.

Nope.

I have PCOS so have tried lots of different hair removal products for my face. I've waxed my lip. I've plucked the hairs.

The spring thing was absolutely agonising.

HiGunny · 24/10/2020 13:23

Another one taken in by the Babyliss big hair hype. Does nothing for me, I get a better result using my hairdryer and barrel brush.

Also The Ordinary Retinol and oils. Didn't suit my skin at all, I broke out in spots that took a few weeks to clear up.

I also tried to follow some of the classic dressing pointers, wearing lots of neutral colours but they just made made me look washed out and boring so I've gone back to my bright colours.

M&S jeggings are the only thing that were recommended on here that I really rate. I live in them 😊

Moltenpink · 24/10/2020 13:28

I’ve bought so many of these products! I’m actually ashamed.

I love my Eufy, it’s my favourite ever purchase.

Hated the scratchy Korean cloth things.

On the fence with my big hair, the one occasion a year where I use it properly, my hair does look lovely & like I’ve been to a salon. But it’s a lot of faff.

FeckArseDrinkGirls · 24/10/2020 13:35

I did get a steam cleaner (not a mop) though and I love that. Brilliant for cleaning the sofa or putting fabric conditioner in and squirting the curtains for a freshen up.

Feedingthebirds1 · 24/10/2020 13:50

I love the Korean cloths, which I bought on the basis of comments on the S&B board. Yes they're small, I just use them as a square cloth without trying to fit them over my hands, but good grief the amount of dead skin they get off!! I've never had anything nearly so good.

Todaytomorrow09 · 24/10/2020 13:59

I love my eufy :)

AllDayHappyHour · 24/10/2020 14:15

Moon cup. MN goes on and on about these shitty, fiddly, messy things and they don’t work!

@Wasail I have never seen them talked about on MN but I got one as I was due to go to the beach and it was amazing. They do say it takes at least two periods to get used to it and I don’t use it all the time but love having it, maybe try again?

I got the Korean wash cloth from recommendations on here, it does exfoliate but also brings my skin out in spots around my thighs are arse 😂 sticking to body shop Brazil nut exfoliator going forward!

TroysMammy · 24/10/2020 14:18

Lemon Turkish Delight, made me feel queasy.

TrickyD · 24/10/2020 15:06

@Ducksurprise

I'm waiting to see Eufy. I just can't bring myself to believe the MN hype.
Well four pages in, 167 messages, no complaints, plenty of praise.
Dullardmullard · 24/10/2020 15:10

@AintOverUntilTheCatLadySings that sounds bloody painful

unmarkedbythat · 24/10/2020 15:11

The bra measurement method whose name escapes me now. You know, the one where they ask you what underbust measurement you get when the tape is so tight it feels like it will snap and then recommend you get that exact band size. It is not for me!

RainRainGoAway12 · 24/10/2020 15:13

I 100% agree with the Dualit toaster comment. I didn’t read about it on Mumsnet but got sucked in by John Lewis reviews. The £8 Asda one from my student days was far better.

Soubriquet · 24/10/2020 15:13

Washable menstrual pads (can you tell that I at least try to be eco friendly?). They don't stay put enough and I leak via the sides. I am prone to flooding so that might just be me. I gave up tryjng to have more eco friendly periods. Forget it.

See I love washable pads and I’ve even converted others

I won’t go back to disposables. They gave me awful rashes.

Potionqueen · 24/10/2020 15:18

See I love my Sharks. I have 2. One battery one for my hard floors and a corded liftaway for my carpets. Absolutely love them (and yes I have had a Miele).

alltoomuchrightnow · 24/10/2020 15:25

another thing about the Babyliss is it highlights split ends! So I'd turn my head upside down and brush it through the other way to make the ends look sleeker. This just ended in massive bouffant. Neither way works..it makes hair look soooo dry even if just washed and conditioned (and recent trim)

alltoomuchrightnow · 24/10/2020 15:28

Oh I've remembered a recent one
A so called invincible mascara, called Isepehan I think (something like that) . It's waterproof and smudgeproof, my arse! I had panda eyes for DAYS as it just kept leaking and smudging! and that was before I tried to remove. A real 'bleed down your entire face' product

GreasyFryUp · 24/10/2020 15:36

Shark vacuum. I too had a Miele. Did my car today took bloody ages with it not getting everything out of the pile.

Love my Eufy although he's noisy of late.

Steam mop, back to mop and bucket....
