Blanket freak

Is it weird to have a blanket/ throw folded on your sofa, so that you can snuggle up with it when on the sofa? My husband has just gone on about how he hates the blanket and nobody else has a blanket for this purpose. It's nice, matches the room etc. AIBU?

@MsEllany

We have four. Large fleecy ones from Dunelm, they’re not especially pretty but when you want to snuggle up to watch a film they’re nice.
We have 6 of these downstairs, once each and then an extra one for me because I work from home and use one in the conservatory and the other in the lounge. They are so lovely and soft!

Also have 4 extra blankets upstairs to go on the beds when it's colder. Once each for the kids and one for DW and I. We haven't had to have the heating on yet as we are lovely and warm.

I've got one on the sofa and one on each chair!
Crocheted by me 😍

unicornparty · 23/10/2020 18:58

I have loads!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 23/10/2020 18:59

The most 'snobbish' person I know is my mother. She loves a good blanket.

(Most of our blankets were bought when we lived in Cyprus. The house was very draughty... Lovely and cool in summer. Freezing in winter!)

MinnieMountain · 23/10/2020 18:59

I’ve got a smaller fleece one for just me that lives in various spots on the sofa. It’s garish but has happy memories of a dawn solstice swim at our local lido.

We have a bit fluffy blanket that fits all 3 of us. It’s kept down the side of the sofa.

The only thing that DH cares about is no cushion on his end.

I don’t think it’s a generational thing. I’m 41. My father’s the only one of his age in our family who doesn’t have one.

Lemonyfuckit · 23/10/2020 19:00

Not weird at all, we have 2 - one each. My parents have similar. I don't like the house to be overly heated. Don't want to spend a fortune on central heating when only feel colder later in the evening as I get sleepy, blanket solves that issue!

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 23/10/2020 19:00

We have loads. Our house is quite old and draughty. But almost violently opposed to excessive cushionage.

TheDuchessOfAquitaine · 23/10/2020 19:00

I think it’s generational thing. I am sure I’ve seen pictures of my grandparents house in the 40s with blankets over the sofas. As a result my own parents think they look dreadful, old fashioned etc and can’t understand why I have them on my sofas.

I loves them! Especially as we have leather sofas...I couldn’t imagine how miserable I would be plonking my bottom on a freezing cold leather sofa on a cold winters morning. I’ve some lovely fluffy ones that keep me cosy.

BigRedBoat · 23/10/2020 19:00

I have one my husband also hates it! I just ignore him 😆

MinnieMountain · 23/10/2020 19:00

We have nicer blankets for the beds though.

Fattynotfitty · 23/10/2020 19:01

I have one, it's a childs one with pictures of tractors on it and does not match the room at all 😂 its perfectly normal and many people I know have one. (Not a tractor one obvs lol)

MrsRogerLima · 23/10/2020 19:01

I have 6! Anyone and everyone welcome to snuggle up in my house!

hollyandkit · 23/10/2020 19:02

Love mine, I've told DP I want to be buried with it. Drives him mad if we're watching something on the tv because about 5 mins after I've snuggled under it I'm asleep and have no idea of what's happened.

Jouleigh · 23/10/2020 19:03

Forgot to say for everyday use we store them on the uncomfy chair that DW loves to look at but doesn't use Hmm Which during Covid is always!
They go in a basket behind said chair the rest of the time as I know the kids fart in them and it's not nice to have on the back of the sofas near your headEnvy

fartedinmybrain · 23/10/2020 19:05

we have loads of blankets, none matching, even have a huge blanket that covers all of us on the sofa

Borgonzola · 23/10/2020 19:05

I've got one and I considering getting a second Grin

BreconBeelzeBubbered · 23/10/2020 19:05

I have one for me and one for the dog here on the sofa, and two others in case anyone else gets chilly, though they're big enough to share really.

My ILs like things to look neat, though, and keep theirs tucked away.

Justmuddlingalong · 23/10/2020 19:06

I'm not adverse to putting the heating on. But tonight it's off because I'm cosy enough under my fleecy blanket. Just out of nosiness, do those who use blankets, do you "wear" it around your shoulders or draped across your legs and body?

SunshineCake · 23/10/2020 19:06

How on earth does your husband know what every single person in the world has in their house ?Hmm. Prat.

My MIL bought me a blanket years ago and I was a bit wth and boy was I wrong. I am under it most nights and I don't know how I managed without it. Sometimes dh shares it with me. Your dh would have a fit. It is mainly blue with a snowman and other Christmas things on it and my sofa is grey so doesn't match. Our old sofa was blue and it matched better but who cares.

Linnet · 23/10/2020 19:06

I have 3, plus there are more put away in drawers so we can change them or add more if we need to 😁

SunshineCake · 23/10/2020 19:07

@LouiseTrees

We have these but we put them away when we have guests as FIL thinks it makes the place look untidy.
Get them all out! It is your house, not his.
Oldraver · 23/10/2020 19:09

We have three though the cat has claimed the best one

'Some' people even have Christmas ones

We also call it a blankie so your H would be doubly shocked

BlackeyedSusan · 23/10/2020 19:09

ds has a duvet and crocheted blanket on the sofa.

there are also a collection of other blankets too.

blackteaplease · 23/10/2020 19:10

We have lots of blankets but they are kept in a box down the side of the sofa. My kids fidget too much to have them casually draped, I'd be constantly rearranging them

ToastyCrumpet · 23/10/2020 19:10

I think it’s a very common as in frequent) thing to have but I think they look messy. Sorry!
