Is it weird to have a blanket/ throw folded on your sofa, so that you can snuggle up with it when on the sofa? My husband has just gone on about how he hates the blanket and nobody else has a blanket for this purpose. It's nice, matches the room etc. AIBU?

I've got 4 (in a 2 person household Grin ).

I've also got an electric blanket on the sofa!

Flaunch · 23/10/2020 18:38

We’ve got a poo brown electric over blanket. It ruins the look of the room but it’s wonderful!

diddl · 23/10/2020 18:38

@LouiseTrees

We have these but we put them away when we have guests as FIL thinks it makes the place look untidy.
What has it got to do with your FIL?
Figmentofimagination · 23/10/2020 18:39

I don't have a blanket. I have a duvet. Couldn't live without it.

Ninkanink · 23/10/2020 18:41

No of course YANBU!

He, on the other hand, is being vvvvU.

We have two lovely wool blankets in our living room for snuggling into and we will be buying a third one this winter.

Justmuddlingalong · 23/10/2020 18:41

Currently posting from under a snuggly fleece on the sofa. We have 4, 2 lighter ones and 2 heavier duty ones, and only 2 of us live here. Nobody's allowed in to visit so I think the argument that it looks untidy is a moot point.

UsernameSpoosername · 23/10/2020 18:42

We have 4! 😂 one for DH, one for me & the children have one each. As soon as we get in we dive on the sofa & grab our allocated blanket! Your DH is missing out.

diddl · 23/10/2020 18:42

I only have one for when it gets colder, so it hasn't made its way down to the sofa yet.

But when it does it'll be here for a few months.

I suppose I might think it a bit odd if it were there year round.

Well, if I really gave it any thought!

Is it offensive in some wayGrin?

Ninkanink · 23/10/2020 18:42

What has it got to do with your FIL?

Yes, quite. I’m aghast that you let someone dictate to you like that about what you do in your own home. Shock

Bargebill19 · 23/10/2020 18:42

I have a pile of them on the sofa and a couple on the single recliner. We both use them. Nothing nicer. Also have a several for them same purpose in the caravan and both cars (for the passenger!)

Mrsjayy · 23/10/2020 18:43

I washed mine today it isn't dry I'm sad Sad. Your husband doesn't appreciate cosiness of course it's normal.

LadyHofH · 23/10/2020 18:44

@Florencex

Very common to have a blanket for that purpose. Your DH is BU.
I thought you meant 'common', as in 'common', as opposed to 'lots of people have them', and was going to agree with you. But I realised just in time that this is not what you meant.

I am no fan of blankets etc (because I hate winter), but I think women are on the whole keener than men. DP has a bee in his bonnet about people who have cushions, throws etc on their beds. They're not my cup of tea, but they don't make me come over all weird in the way that they do him.

Ninkanink · 23/10/2020 18:44

Oh...unless you live with your IL’s...

In which I’d show FIL this thread. Wink

Disfordarkchocolate · 23/10/2020 18:44

I am snuggled under one now. Another one is on the sofa. Vital equipment in this house.

VHSappy · 23/10/2020 18:45

Yep! It's my cold weather/movie watching/post takeaway fat covering blanket.

I thought everyone had one.

ArranBound · 23/10/2020 18:45

Your husband maybe hasn't been taking notice when he's visited other people's homes. I can't think of anyone in my family who doesn't have a nice woolly throw. Nice to look at and even nicer to use.

LadyHofH · 23/10/2020 18:45

I can also only assume that nobody who likes blankets (never mind electric blankets - WTAF?) is menopausal or peri-menopausal. If I were ever to sit on the sofa, I'd be doing it with a nice icy wind blasting through the sitting room.

year5teacher · 23/10/2020 18:45

If I am on the sofa at home I am 100% under my blanket without fail.

ancientgran · 23/10/2020 18:46

I have one.

MalorieSnooty · 23/10/2020 18:47

Yep we've got them. I have sensory issues and need one, the DCs like them. DH is a misery about them but he lacks empathy.

MovinOnUp · 23/10/2020 18:47

Everyone I know has at least one blanket in the living-room
(Well, Of the ones whose houses I have visited anyway)

year5teacher · 23/10/2020 18:47

Actually I even bring it to friends’ houses in case they don’t have one. I bring it to my DP’s parents. I have to have my blanket!!

madcatladyforever · 23/10/2020 18:47

What? I have blankets all over my living room, it's perfectly normal.
Normal people have blankets, throws and cushions.
I'm cutting down on gas bills so I need my blankets when I'm watching tv in winter.

dizzycatdance2 · 23/10/2020 18:47

I have a heated one , on a amazon plug that I shout "blanket" at my alexa and it turns it on for me.

Absolutely decadent, but in my eyes a basic necessity .Grin

Thecobwebsarewinning · 23/10/2020 18:48

I gave my two god daughters lovely fleece blankets last `Christmas. Their mum is very designery and into her interiors so I assumed the blankets would be consigned to the bedrooms. To my surprise I got a nice note saying they had really brightened up the living room. I sort of assumed that she was just being polite but on the only two occasions I’ve been able to visit them the blankets have been neatly folded amd prominent and they do look lovely.

With my own young adult D.C. I don’t mind the blankets being out if they are nicely folded and draped. I also insist on them being washed regularly. I understand it might make them less fluffy but I don’t want the living room smelling like a hamster cage.
