Is it weird to have a blanket/ throw folded on your sofa, so that you can snuggle up with it when on the sofa? My husband has just gone on about how he hates the blanket and nobody else has a blanket for this purpose. It's nice, matches the room etc. AIBU?

Plus in our house, the central heating seems to really dry out the air and upstairs becomes a sauna. I much prefer the fire on low and a blanket over me. It does mean if I venture to the loo the kitchen and hall are chilly but it's better than having blocked sinuses and so nice to come back to a warm sitting room and a wool blanket (other fabrics are available).

Having said that, growing up, we had none. Mum had the heating on non stop as she was 'cold blooded' and we were up in our rooms with the windows open trying to cool down.

SeasonallySnowyPeasant · 23/10/2020 22:10

I have a drawer of non-matching but very cosy blankets for this precise purpose.

PyongyangKipperbang · 23/10/2020 22:10

@MarinPrime

I thought blankets on sofas were for dogs to lie on, to keep the sofa clean and unscratched.
Have the sofa, have the blanket, have the TV (until it breaks, then its laptops all the way) but dont have the dog. Sorry to dissapoint.
itwaseverthus · 23/10/2020 22:13

Oh yes, forgot there are blankets on every sofa arm and the cat has her two favourites in rotation in the living room. My DH was a bit nonplussed at first too, as if the room should be warm enough not to need one but soon came round to it.

lazylinguist · 23/10/2020 22:23

We never used to, but I crocheted one during lockdown. Dh doesn't see the point of throws, blankets, cushions etc (though was suitably complimentary about my crocheting. Except he's now started wrapping himself in the blanket while watching tv in the evening. Grin

Blanket, Fire, Cat. It's about the only thing that's keeping me calm in the midst of this lockdown madness. I just chill out and listen to music if there is nothing on TV, which there usually isn't at the minute.

@ChocolateCherrybomb

If nobody has a blanket for use on the sofa, what does your DH think people buy those ones with arms in them for. Maybe he thinks they are for going shopping in, out to dinner or a delightful fashion choice for that important business meeting.

Or has he just got a touch of "disagreeable miserable arsehole disease" today.

I’ve got a stack of them , the dog whines on til I get his blankie to get underneath at night

stevalnamechanger · 23/10/2020 23:30

They look untidy so I fold them away hidden during the day... at night they come out :D way better than turning the heating up

Iola4 · 24/10/2020 00:00

LTB! 😂
Every single person I know has a blanket for this purpose.
I spent a whole year knitting several blooming blankets until I made 'the perfect cosy ONE'.

mysticpistachio · 24/10/2020 00:12

The best one is known as blanky in our house. Was a tenner from Tesco's and puts user to sleep in approximately 6 minutes.

IdblowJonSnow · 24/10/2020 00:16

Err yanbu. And potentially saves a lot on heating bills?!

Takethewinefromtheswine · 24/10/2020 00:20

I have a wanky basket of blankets in the fireplace. I am v envious of the crafty folk on here though and very keen to finally learn to knit or crochet so I can make one this winter only had the needles and wool and book for 8 years.

CakeyCakeyCakeCake · 24/10/2020 01:49

We now live in Australia (so not cold) and have THREE! I brought them all from the U.K. and they live in wicker baskets in the corners. I LOVE them and still use them even in summer Grin

Duffy888 · 24/10/2020 01:58

We have numerous including a heated one!

We have a blanky too. Sorry, Blanky. :o It's no longer best having lost its loft over the years, but an excellent extension of the dog blanket, after he has had a very wet walk, and superb for camping.

steff13 · 24/10/2020 03:15

I have a ton. I can't resist a soft blanket.

violetbunny · 24/10/2020 05:15

We have 2. DCats love them as well.

gurteee · 24/10/2020 06:07

He should care more about your comfort!

I've just bought one and DH has encouraged it - probably hoping I will have heating on lower Grin

LionessRoar · 24/10/2020 06:18

We never had them growing up but I love a blanket now and been using one all year round for years. My husband bought me one with sleeves as part of last year’s Christmas present and at first I was unimpressed as it looked like something I imagine old people wearing. From the first time I wore it I was hooked, so cosy. I now plan carefully to wash and dry it on the same day so. I’m never without it in the evenings. Within a few days of me using mine, my husband ordered himself the same blanket in a diff colour, so we both sit there every evening looking like some elderly couple 😂 - we’re only in our 40s but I don’t care as I love my slander! Realise they look ugly though so we pop them in a wicker basket when not in use

Aaaw you two sound so cute! Grin
pincertoe · 24/10/2020 06:32

We have one plus more under the sofa. I love a blanket but my dh is same as yours. My bro and sil have a basket of them and when go we all snuggle up with blankets.

MrsPernicious · 24/10/2020 06:54

I'm another one who can't stand breathing over warm air, so the heating is usually on about 16 or 17, which is great when you are busy but can get chilly when you flumph.
So we have six scattered around the place and another two in production. They are a glorious mismatch of size, colour and fabric. Also a few quick drying fleece ones for guests to use.

I have no intention of reducing my social life to zero this winter and the blankets are proving useful for wine on the terrace. My best friend has taken to arriving with her own blanket. I may also be eying up a couple more metal goblets to reduce the glass breakage rate.

LionessRoar · 24/10/2020 07:29

@gurteee thank you, not sure cute is the word you’re looking for though! 😂

pepperwood · 24/10/2020 08:16

@CSIblonde

I love my faux fur blanket . It's cream , super soft & snuggly & looks really expensive. I'm going to buy another for the bed, in the mink colour.
Where is yours from?

A friend used to have a huge faux fur blanket that was thick and heavy and I really really want one. I'd forgotten about it until this thread but I've spent a while googling in bed.

I can't stand the touch of fleece or that weird material that lots of cheap blankets are made of.
I currently have a sofa duvet as I need the weight but a nice heavy blanket would look less like we live on a sofa especially as we're getting new ones soon.
