To think that Marcus Rashford is great

I have never been in a position now or in the past where I’ve ever needed to rely on Free School Meals. However, I have a brain and I’m capable of understanding that people without much money may need a bit of help. Marcus has come from this background and is highlighting an injustice that needs to be highlighted. What the actual fuck is wrong with people/Tory MPs who are briefing against this? SMFH

Maireas who was that? The female MP? How disgusting 😤😒

MagicoRomantico · 23/10/2020 19:30

What is the problem is the House of Commons resturants run at a loss.
They don't run at a loss. They're subsidised by us, the taxpayer.

Mehmehmeh19 · 23/10/2020 19:32

He's made me cry so many times just lately. Also I've donated when it wouldn't have normally

Maireas · 23/10/2020 19:32

I think it is a problem, RedMarauder if you are claiming that and voting against the extension of free school meals. I don't care what business expenses private companies allow, but the taxpayer pays for this for MPs and it reeks of hypocrisy to me.

MagicoRomantico · 23/10/2020 19:33

So who are the 23 MNetters who said YABU?
Now 32.
No doubt Tories

Maireas · 23/10/2020 19:34

The MP I am talking about is Miriam Cates, Stocksbridge (Sheffield). You can check the expenses.

NeedToKnow101 · 23/10/2020 19:35

He's amazing. A heart of gold ❤️

MagicoRomantico · 23/10/2020 19:36

What a massive achievement , i hope Boris and his scummy cronies are crawling up their own arses, they should all hang their heads in shame.

I doubt it. Just checked the Daily Mail website to see if they're running this story. Of course they're not. The very people (their readers) who need to see what this government are like, because they're not on Twitter or Mumsnet wont see it. It makes me so fucking angry how biased the media is and how they help the government.

Maireas · 23/10/2020 19:39

You know what angered me, Magico? It wasn't even one of the top three stories on the BBC news. The BBC! It came below whether we can still go to the hairdresser in tier 3.

BoudiccasBoudoir · 23/10/2020 19:42

Reading his Twitter... goosebumps. It's a big issue and this won't solve it, but what initiatives like this say to people in hardship is: "you are not forgotten, we've got your back" in the middle of a whole shitty narrative about poverty. It says to kids, many who have been cooped up in overcrowded substandard housing, with difficult home lives for various reasons, without access to the internet to speak to their friends or do their school work, is that there are people out there who care. They are not collateral damage of this pandemic, they are little human people who deserve a life and a chance. Fuck anybody who is against this for any reason except that it's not enough and we should do better. We can't reach everyone, but for fucks sake we can line a few hungry bellies can't we? Why the fuck can we not manage that?

Power to the little people, and fuck the people in power right now, that's all I'm saying. And blessings upon Marcus Rashford, ofc

RunBackwards · 23/10/2020 19:44

He makes me cross with myself. I have lots of causes I "support" but I don't make anything happen. He's obviously priveledged to have such a platform but even so, it makes me disappointed in myself to see someone from such a background achieving so much when I don't.

MsIreneWinters · 23/10/2020 19:49

I cried reading his twitter feed too. It feels like such a beacon of hope and decency in an increasingly bleak world.

He is a lovely, principled man and his mum must be so proud.

kathmacc · 23/10/2020 19:52

Marcus for PM -at least he knows about how people really live!

BIWI · 23/10/2020 19:59

A bit of revenge though!

doadeer · 23/10/2020 20:02

He's wonderful

Katjolo · 23/10/2020 20:02

Such a positive and inspiring young man.

Bookriddle · 23/10/2020 20:04

I have had to come off facebook now because i am raging!

Its full of people saying " dont have kids if you cant afford them"
"Parents wasting money on booze and drugs"
"I shouldnt have to fund other pwoples kids"

It makes me rage, this pandemic has hit alot of familys hard, mine included, fortunately we dont need free meals, but i know people that will!

And the thing that nakes me laugh, most of these people saying this shit, was the same people that would say "all lives matter" during the BLM protest!

RunBackwards · 23/10/2020 20:05

@BIWI

Aw bless. I sometime think Rishi has strangely found himself stranded in the wrong party. "Proper" Tories wouldn't have come up with the furlough scheme etc and yet he's had to do it with a nod to Tory ways.
ASimpleLobsterHat · 23/10/2020 20:11

I think he’s fabulous - his mum should be very proud. I hope my DC grow up to be as caring as he appears to be. For once a footballer that is a proper role model.

QuidcoQueen · 23/10/2020 20:32

I'm a big utd fan who grew up not far from him.
I've thought he was amazing since I first saw him play.
I wish that we could go to matches and cheer for him. Im sure even the rival fans would.

He is amazing. If he was my son I would burst with pride.

He will get a standing ovation at every single ground when fans are allowed back.
FranKubelik · 23/10/2020 21:05

He’s great. Many years ago I had FSMs and I know how vital they are.

It’s not the first time his tweets have moved me though. I loved his ‘Mum, we’re off to the World Cup’ tweet.

Ilovecheese53 · 23/10/2020 21:12

@PretendLife

Where is his Dad though? Why is it single mum's and the state that have to feed kids. I've said on one of the other numerous threads on this subject, these celebs need to shame absent fathers into supporting their kids. Men need to call out other men on this. I despair at the way it seems to just be accepted without even thinking about it that men get away with taking any responsibility for feeding their children.

I do believe there should be extra help for poorer families, not across the board though as plenty of parents can afford school meals so any money being spent should be used for the ones in most need.

Honestly I’m so disgusted by your first line “Where is his dad” you need to think before you type! It’s disgusting the same as the man on Twitter that stated something similar to Marcus.

You obviously are aware his dad is not on the scene and I’m sure he is too. Marcus will have feelings and no amount of money will replace a father figure in your life so what your is point? Your just being mean! Clearly his dad is NOT on the scene hence Marcus growing up with a single mum.

RunBackwards · 23/10/2020 21:19

A PP said his father is now his agent, is that true,I can't find anything on Google?
