To ask if you have a thigh gap?

I need some reassurance that it's quite normal to not have a thigh gap.. it's my biggest problem area!

I'm not much over 5ft tall, weigh around 7st 10.. six 6 due to my small frame but wouldn't say I was slim, probably in proportion, definitely have a bit of a belly and yeah the thighs... as they go up, they curve in together and touch.

I know I'm an idiot.. constantly comparing myself to others and how their legs seem to be not smooshing together at the top!

I'm early thirties but don't remember ever having one.. is it true that the majority of
Women don't and I'm just being overly perfectionist with this?

Yes I know first world problems.. but I feel like I look horrendous in shorts and had to get it off my chest today!

I wonder if men fret over whether they have a thigh gap or not

Can you imagine an 8 page thread over on pistonheads with men talking about such pathetic inane shit, and posting their height and weight as badges of honour?

JaneJeffer · 22/10/2020 19:01

I think they look horrible.
Thanks. Good job I don't give a shite.

YonderTweek · 22/10/2020 19:02

Nope and I'm quite skinny. I've always carried my weight in my thighs and they wibble wobble no matter what I do. I used to have an ED and I was really unwell and thin but still didn't have a thigh gap and it used to drive me crazy. I'm in my 30s now and not bothered. I sometimes wish jeans would fit me better due to my slightly awkward shape, but that's nothing to do with not having a thigh gap (and really not a big thing anyway, just makes buying trousers a bit more challenging Grin).

AgeLikeWine · 22/10/2020 19:05

I have a thigh gap. All I have to do is stand with my feet 50cm apart and there it is! Grin.

Redcrayons · 22/10/2020 19:06

@user18594 don’t fell bad. If you had posted a thread asking for things we don’t like about our bodies, it would be twice as long.

I’ve got slim legs, toned from running, and thigh gap. I was bullied at school for my chicken legs. Now, I’ll happily wear shorts in summer, my legs are fine.

But I’ve got loads of saggy skin on my stomach from pregnancy weight gain which I don’t like and my c section skin is a bit loo sided. I probably wouldn’t wear a bikini or anything that could show my midriff.

We all got stuff.

willowywillow · 22/10/2020 19:06

No. Most women can't have one naturally unless on a very restrictive diet. It's not womanly to have one, just another obsessive to make your body look more childlike.

Well, that's bollocks. My diet isn't that restrictive but I run. It's muscles with me as I have narrow hips. If you read the thread, for some, it's bone structure. And I was a woman last time I looked! How can a woman not be womanly?Confused

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 22/10/2020 19:06

@willowywillow

Gree do you have muscular legs? I have narrow hips but got one from running.
Muscular-ish, I guess. There's no excess fat there, certainly.
GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 22/10/2020 19:08

Really hate all this crap.

I have a thigh gap and 30G boobs - ain't nothing child-like about my body!!
MiddleClassMother · 22/10/2020 19:14

I have a thigh gap, I never used to until I got a PT and took up running. My legs are muscular and slender. Even as a young teen despite being slim and a healthy weight there was no thigh gap. My mother always had (still does now) a thigh gap so perhaps it's genetic.

ChristmasFluff · 22/10/2020 19:18

I'm currently at my porkiest and I still have a thigh gap - which pisses off my skinny niece who would love one.

It's to do with your pelvis and your hip angles. I have a thigh-gap hip/pelvis combo. Additionally I am an apple shape and my legs are naturally muscular.

It's largely anatomy and body-type, and there are plenty of people who will never be able to get a thigh gap at a healthy weight.

Etulosba · 22/10/2020 19:45

I do remember a thread on an male dominated US forum... "Thigh gap, hot or not?" It was longer than 8 pages and included example photos.

The result was 50/50 "Hot" to "What's a thigh gap?"

CuppaZa · 22/10/2020 19:49

I have thigh gap. 5ft 5, 9.4st now, mid 30’s. I have wide hips so don’t know if that plays a part? I know some women with narrow hips, and their thighs do touch

CuppaZa · 22/10/2020 19:52

@BabyLlamaZen I have always had thigh gap, 34f boobs and 35 inch hips, and I eat whatever the hell I want, whenever the hell I want.
Have to say, not once has anyone called my figure ‘childlike’ HmmHmm

irregularegular · 22/10/2020 19:53

I do. I'm not particularly slim. I'm a size 10. My legs/hips are just put together oddly. I'm slightly bow legged. my thighs absolutely won't touch unless I bend my legs a bit.

irregularegular · 22/10/2020 19:54

It's not womanly to have one, just another obsessive to make your body look more childlike.

And I hate this crap too. People are just shaped differently!

EmmaWithTheGreatHair · 22/10/2020 19:56

I’m about 5’7, roughly 9st 5 snd have a thigh gap but I hate my cellulite riddled thighs! Bah!

HereWeAre20 · 22/10/2020 19:57

Never had one. Even when I was 7.5 stone. I’m 5ft 2. U used to have such bad body insecurities when I was younger cause I had no thigh gap but just realised it’s how I’m built lol

irregularegular · 22/10/2020 19:59

I can position my hips and legs in such a way that they do not touch in the middle Is that unusual? I can't easily position them so they touch anywhere! I'm not skinny,

Twobigsapphires · 22/10/2020 19:59

I read once that a thigh gap is about your pelvis shape and bone structure. I have had one all my life. I’m 5,5 and 8 stone. Had one even when I was 13 stone and pregnant.

Ladybird345 · 22/10/2020 20:02

Nope, I do have a muffin top though 😳

Burrit · 22/10/2020 20:24

I've never had a thigh gap even when I was seriously under weight with an eating disorder, I do recall seeing a post about the shape of your pelvis being the reason for a thigh gap, nothing to do with your weight some people will just never have one, I'm sure their are celebrities who's figures you idolise who don't have a thigh gap, I know it's hard but you are the only one who has your body and you can't change it so just be proud of it, you sound by no means over weight as long as you're healthy I don't think you need to worry

SeanCailleach · 22/10/2020 20:44

Not convinced that I have ever seen one on a healthy female standing up straight with feet parallel and knees together. Think if you have one you need to do some exercises to build up your inner thigh muscles. Especially you runners - you will injure your knees without strong inner thighs.
@user18594 ask yourself what your body can do, not what looks like.

lioncitygirl · 22/10/2020 20:52

i do.

BadlyDrawnSimpsonsCharacter · 22/10/2020 21:15

No thigh gap for me, just chub rub.
Smile

Waxonwaxoff0 · 22/10/2020 21:17

Never had one even when I was slim. Definitely don't now at 5'4 and 11st 3lbs!
