To ask if you have a thigh gap?

I need some reassurance that it's quite normal to not have a thigh gap.. it's my biggest problem area!

I'm not much over 5ft tall, weigh around 7st 10.. six 6 due to my small frame but wouldn't say I was slim, probably in proportion, definitely have a bit of a belly and yeah the thighs... as they go up, they curve in together and touch.

I know I'm an idiot.. constantly comparing myself to others and how their legs seem to be not smooshing together at the top!

I'm early thirties but don't remember ever having one.. is it true that the majority of
Women don't and I'm just being overly perfectionist with this?

Yes I know first world problems.. but I feel like I look horrendous in shorts and had to get it off my chest today!

I don’t and don’t think I’ll ever have one no matter how skinny I get. I’m a size 6/8 but booby and hippy so my thighs point towards each other if that makes sense. It’s just not the way I’m shaped.

FAQs · 22/10/2020 15:45

Not since about 1998

Cam2020 · 22/10/2020 15:46

Not since March, I seem to have lost it somewhere since lockdown!

I do usually have a thigh gap but I also have big, muscular calves that make long boots look ugly. I'd personally rather have more slender calves than the thigh gap, but that's life! Even those who have something you wish you had, have things they dislike about themselves.

Littleelffriend · 22/10/2020 15:46

I have and always have had. I’m a size 12

mum11970 · 22/10/2020 15:48

No thigh gap here. A thigh gap is down to the tilt or structure of your pelvis so there’s very little you can do about it.

MorganKitten · 22/10/2020 15:51

Nope but I play roller derby so best not to have one!

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 22/10/2020 15:52

It's more about the position of your hips & your leg shape. Dont obsess over it

OHappyDay · 22/10/2020 15:55

I never have/had a thigh gap regardless of what I weight (and I’ve fluctuated from overweight to underweight)

MiriamMargo · 22/10/2020 15:57

thigh gaps look weird in my opinion, and no i dont have one, no where near

rubydoobydoo · 22/10/2020 16:01

I just exercise and eat a healthy diet...

Doesn't make any difference if it's not your natural shape. I run and weight train, also eat a healthy diet- but I have narrow hips and will never have a thigh gap. It's not to do with fat or muscle, just shape.

scoobydoo1971 · 22/10/2020 16:10

I am slim build and have a thigh gap. It is nothing to do with being slim and I could achieve that if I weighed 10kg more...I have ehlers danlos syndrome so very hypermobile. I can position my hips and legs in such a way that they do not touch in the middle...not that I care nor wonder about it too much. If my life achievement at 50 was a thigh gap, I would think I have to work a bit harder to find something else to be proud of.

headstrong27 · 22/10/2020 16:11

I have slim hips, even at 8 stone & 5ft 10 I don't think I had a gap. My mother has been a size 16 & still had a thigh gap, she has natural Kardashian hips. It's bone structure

NC4Now · 22/10/2020 16:13

Thigh gap? I barely have a knee gap.

EvilPea · 22/10/2020 16:15

Nope even pre kids when I wore age 12-13 clothes!

SlopesOff · 22/10/2020 16:17

Does it count as a thigh gap if you have thighs that touch right at the top but not from about a couple of inches further down?

Where do you start counting it as a thigh gap? Is it when your nethers feel a breeze, or when your thighs are far enough apart that a small army could march though without being noticed?

Apart from chub rub, unless you are an unhealthy looking supermodel type, I can't see it matters. I have a skeleton in my living room, he has a huge thigh gap.

KnightError · 22/10/2020 16:21

OP, I'm 5 foot 2 and about 7 stone 8. I have a thigh gap.

However, I also have relatively wide hips for someone of my otherwise small build, and a relatively broad pelvis. I'm all arms and legs and wide-ish hips (which makes it impossible to find a dress that fits me, as it would need to be an 8-10 on the bottom, and a 2-4 on the top - I am also completely flat chested).

If I decided to dwell on it, I'd probably swap my thigh gap for someone else's boobs.

JaneJeffer · 22/10/2020 16:22

It's where you can stand in front of an open fire and see the blaze without turning around Grin

buggeroffvirus · 22/10/2020 16:23

I have an ankle gap .....does that count

KnightError · 22/10/2020 16:24

BTW, my sister is the same height and weight as me, but doesn't remotely have a thigh gap. Her arms and legs are a lot shorter than mine, but she has smaller hips, a waist (I go straight from hips to chin, more or less), and some boobage - and is perfectly proportioned.

Hangingover · 22/10/2020 16:25

You can only have a thigh gap if you have a relatively wide hips and pelvis

I have one and I have narrow hips. But I'm 5.10 and 9st so my thighs are quite long and skinny!

InsaneProbably · 22/10/2020 16:25

I do, but it's because I have an unfeminine fat distribution. I'm size 8, a normal weight, and I'd guess a normal body fat %, too, but hardly any of my fat is on my legs of bum. It wants to sit on my belly and upper arms, annoyingly!

Hangingover · 22/10/2020 16:27

I have ehlers danlos syndrome so very hypermobile. I can position my hips and legs in such a way that they do not touch in the middle

Oh and also maybe this as I have OI

noseresearch · 22/10/2020 16:36

I do but its definitely not something that I’d describe as an attractive trait, just the way my bones are

99% of people will not take any notice as to whether someone has a thigh gap or not

I’m pretty sure it originated from online teen anorexic communities “thinspiration” e.g., tumblr

CanICelebrate · 22/10/2020 16:40

I have a big thigh gap And I’m quite self conscious about it!! I’m size 10 and 5 foot 5. I’m slim but not skinny, apart from my legs!
